The first snow of the season hits Stars Hollow -- Lorelai's favorite time of year. The roads ice over and Rory is forced to stay with her grandparents where she introduces them to the wonders of frozen pizza. Back in Stars Hollow, Lorelai runs into Max, whose car had died on his way home. Since he's stranded in Stars Hollow for the night, Lorelai takes him out to dinner and a movie, but their date is cut short when they find Lane at Lorelai's, waiting for Rory. Later, Rory returns home and is shocked to find her teacher asleep on the couch.

Episode Quotes

Luke: Tradition is a trap. It allows people to stick their head in the sand. Everything in the past was so quaint, so charming. Times were simpler. Kids didn't have sex. Neighbors knew each other. It's a freaking fairy tale. Things sucked then too. It just sucked without indoor plumbing.

Lorelai: Michel, it's the first snowfall of the season. It's very lucky! Make a wish!
Michel: Get away from me.
Lorelai: Oh, you're not supposed to say it out loud.
(Michel answers the phone)
Lorelai: (to herself) The world changes when it snows. It's quiet. Everything softens.
Michel: It's your mother.
Lorelai: And then the rain comes.

Emily: Have you seen the news?
Lorelai: Ever?
Emily: A bad storm is heading your way. It's already hitting us here.
Lorelai: Well, don't panic. I'll get the ark, you get the animals.

Luke: Twelve guys stood in a row all night waiting for an enemy that never showed. They got stood up. They should've been wearing prom dresses.

Lorelai: Hey, how is it out there?
Michel: It is cold and gray, like a fat, dead pigeon.

Richard: Rory, are you in any way malnourished or in need of some international relief organization to recruit a celebrity to raise money on your account?
Rory: I’m good.

Taylor: Well, excuse me Andrew, but some of us have businesses to run that don't involve peddling drug paraphernalia to children.
Andrew: It was a lava lamp, Taylor.
Taylor: There is no use for a lava lamp unless you're on drugs.

Lorelai: Ladies and gentlemen, we have flakes. Flakes have been sighted. Flakeage, if you will, has begun.

Rory: So, how many times are you gonna listen to that?
Lorelai: Until it stops being sexy?
Rory: Stop! That's my English teacher you're talking about. I have to respect him!
Lorelai: Okay, well, if it makes you feel any better, while he's being sexy, he's also being grammatically correct.
Rory: Better.

Lane: You have everything now and I have nothing, except for 2000 Korean Bibles and a potential ‘F’ in jazz band.

Rory: My English teacher is on my couch!
Lorelai: It was the snow. You know how I get. It's like catnip.

Max: (to Lorelai) At some point in your life you're gonna have to decide that some guy is worth opening that front door for. I am just volunteering.

Episode Goofs

When Rory takes her chemistry book out from behind the desk at the inn, you see her place it in her backpack. After the shot returns to Rory, she is holding the textbook.

Even though they walked through a snowstorm, Max and Lorelai's clothes and hair are completely dry.

Cultural References

Lorelai: I guess I'll just put on my red, white and blue leotard, grab my golden lasso and fly the invisible plane on over.

Lorelai is referencing Wonder Woman, a female superhero, who wore a leotard, carried a golden lasso and flew in an invisible plane.

Lorelai: Hey babe, Sergeant Pepper.

Lorelai is referencing the Beatles album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band because Lane is wearing a marching band outfit similar to those worn by the Beatles on the album's cover.

Richard: You also knew that you wanted to marry Errol Flynn.

Errol Flynn is an actor who became known from his starring role in Robin Hood and various other romantic roles.

Lorelai: All right, honey, tell Grandma you arrived there not a member of the Junior League, I'd like you to leave there the same way.

The Junior League is a charitable woman’s organization whose goal is to help communities through volunteering.

Lorelai: Well, don't panic. I'll get the ark, you get the animals.

Reference to the story from Genesis 6:8 in the Bible in which Noah was commanded by God to build an ark and collect two of each animal in the world before the earth was flooded.

Lorelai: I swear to God, if this wasn't a major Judy Blume moment, I would kick her cute little butt right out of here.

Judy Blume is an author whose children and young adult books are centered around moral and sometimes controversial issues.
