Episode Quotes
Emily: (looking at slides) What is that?
Lorelai: That is a Harvard squirrel.
Emily: Oh, good grief!
Lorelai: Doesn't he look smart?

Lorelai: They're taller.
Rory: Not this again.
Lorelai: There's more of them.
Rory: Mom, the flowers on the wallpaper are not growing or reproducing.

Lorelai: Okay, I think we just found the first room in the history of the world that would've made Liberace say "Whoa, step back. No one's that gay".

Lorelai: We're not gonna have this fight in a flowery bedroom with dentists singing 'Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves' in the background. It's too David Lynch!

Rory: Mom, it's gonna be dark in a couple of hours and I don't want to sleep in the car.
Lorelai: Ugh, my sense of adventure did not translate to my offspring.

Episode Goofs
At the bed and breakfast, Lorelai asks Rory "When have we ever had a conversation about makeup?". Rory replies that they never had but this is untrue. In the "Pilot" Lorelai and Rory discuss lip gloss.

During this episode, the crew is visible at a couple times. When Lorelai and Rory first arrive at the B&B, shadows of the crew can be seen on Rory and near the end of the episode, crew shadows can be seen when Lorelai gets in her Jeep.

Cultural References
Lorelai: I may be a free spirit my whole life or fall in love with a separated Catholic guy like Katherine Hepburn did and then not get to go to his funeral when he dies.

Katherine Hepburn is an American actress who fell in love with a devout Catholic man who was already married to another woman and remained that way until his death. Hepburn, out of respect for his family, didn't attend his funeral.

Rory: Forget it Jake, it's Chinatown.

Rory is repeating the famous last line from Chinatown, which starred Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway.

Rory: Okay, Rizzo.

In the movie and musical Grease, Rizzo was the leader of the Pink Ladies.

Lorelai: We're not gonna have this fight in a flowery bedroom with dentists singing 'Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves' in the background. It's too David Lynch!

"Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves" is a song by Sonny and Cher. David Lynch is a filmmaker with a unique visual and verbal style.

Lorelai: Okay, I think we just found the first room in the history of the world that would've made Liberace say "Whoa, step back. No one's that gay".

Liberace is a charismatic entertainer and well-known pianist who, despite his flamboyant personality, denied for years that he was homosexual.

Lane: I strapped [the CDs] to my body like in 'Midnight Express'.

Midnight Express was a movie based on the story of Billy Hayes who was caught trying to smuggle drugs out of Turkey.
