| Every scene at Yale is filmed on the set which specifically built to replicate actual locations at Yale University in Connecticut.
| Rory's dorm suite is actually twice as big as any dorm at Yale in order for the cameras to be able to get the shots necessary.

| Lorelai: This parent orientation I went to is a non-stop litany of the horrors of meeting college freshmen. You're supposed to carry a whistle, a flashlight, a crucifix, and a loaded Glock with you at all times.

Lorelai: That'll get the girls talking. We'll be those dirty, filthy, almost-French Stars Hollow girls. Oh, we spit on you, you repressed puritanical ninnies.
Rory: We smirk in your general direction.
Lorelai: We cast sidelong glances that are vague but slightly threatening.
Rory: We eschew your quaint double entendre for the appealing lasciviousness of the entendre singular.
Lorelai: We ... eh ... I'm out.
| Rory: Everything's so foreign. I have to share a bathroom. I've never shared a bathroom with anyone but you. So I'm gonna be running into people in the bathroom, we're gonna have to make small talk. I don't know any bathroom small talk.
Lorelai: Um ... gee, your hair smells terrific?

Lorelai: The "R" in drive!
Luke: "R" is for reverse.
Lorelai: Right, reverse.

Lorelai is referring to Doogie Howser, the main character of the television show Doogie Howser, M.D., a child prodigy who gets his medical license from Princeton when he is sixteen.

Altamont is a speedway in Northern California that hosted a music festival in December 1969 where the Rolling Stones played and several poor quality drugs were present.
| Rory: Of all the gin joints...
Rory is quoting part of a line from the movie Casablanca spoken by Rick: "Of all the gin joins in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine."
| Luke: His name is Don Dewey. He is from the firm Dewey, Chetem, and Howe.
Dewey, Chetem, Howe is the name of the fake lawfirm set up by Curly, Lary and Moe on The Three Stooges Show.
| Rory: My nose, it feels like clay.
While speaking this line, Rory pushes her nose off to the side of her face, similar to a scene from an episode of I Love Lucy in which Lucy makes a fake nose out of clay for a disguise.
| Lorelai: That's the Yale-supplied mattress that has microbes in it that date back to Henry Box Brown.
Henry Box Brown was a slave from Virginia who was sent in a 3 foot by 2 foot box to a member of the Underground Railroad to escape slavery.

Annie Leibovitz is a famous photographer most noted for her portraits of rock and roll personalities for Rolling Stone and Vanity Fair.
