This is the last appearance of Marion Ross as Lorelai 'Trix' Gilmore. However, Ross will continue to guest star on the show as cousin Marilyn.
This is the first episode in which there is no direct, face-to-face communication between Lorelai and Rory. They speak via cell phones, but don't talk in person.

Episode Title: The Incredible Shrinking Lorelais
The episode title is a possible reference to the 1957 film, The Incredible Shrinking Man or to the 1979 Dickies album, Incredible Shrinking Dickies.
Paris: Gandalf the Grey is still falling down it.
Gandalf the Grey is a character from the Lord of the Rings series who dies when he falls down a canon in the Dwarf Mountains.

Actor, director, and model Nick Nolte was pulled over in Malibu, California while driving drunk and his mug shot, as seen
here, quickly became an infamous picture of Nolte.
