Lorelai: John and Keith are dead. Paul and Bingo are still kicking.

| During the episode, Lorelai and Rory mention that they've never seen a movie where during which someone window-shops. However, in Breakfast at TIffany's, the main character window-shops at Tiffany's New York. Aside from being self-proclaimed movie and pop-culture buffs, Lorelai and Rory have referenced the movie, making it highly unlikely that they've never seen Breakfast at Tiffany's.

The episode title is a reference to the 1991 film Scenes From a Mall. The movie follows a couple that discusses their marital problems while they shop at a mall.
| Christine: I love the floorboard thing! It's so Hogan's Heroes.
Hogan's Heroes is a 1960's television series that followed the lives of American soldiers held as prisoners in Germany during World War II.
| Rory: How very 'The L Word'.
The L Word is a Showtime series about the lives of women who are all involved in same-sex relationships.

Luke: What are you doing?

Carnac the Magnificent is a psychic played by Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. During the skit, Carnac would hold an envelope to his head and predict the answer to the question inside of the envelope.

Emily and Richard are partially right. Out of the four original Beatles members, John Lennon and George Harrison have passed away and Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr (not Bingo) are still alive. "Keith" is a possible reference to Keith Richards, the guitarist for The Rolling Stones who is still alive.
