Gilmore Girls: Tippecanoe and Taylor, Too

Rory and Dean find it increasingly difficult to be alone together due to their distant living arrangement and the fact that he is sharing a car with his estranged wife. Impulsively, Rory asks Dean if he only left Lynsey because she found Rory's letter, and is not completely satisfied with his response. Lorelai and Sookie run Jackson's campaign when he decides to run against Taylor for Town Selectman. Lane tells her band-mate Zach that she has feelings for him.

Episode Quotes
Lorelai: This is the third time, Michel, the third time that bus-and-truck-tour Mussolini has rejected our permit.
Michel: And I was there for every show.

(about Luke)
Lorelai: He actually tried to make me breakfast.
Rory: Really?
Lorelai: Yeah, naked.
Luke: (stops what he's doing and starts to leave) Okay, that's it, I'm gone.
Lorelai: Oh, no, no, no. Sorry, don't, no. Rory, Luke is fully dressed. He never came in the house. He just stood outside all night playing "In Your Eyes" on a boom box.
Rory: I have to go. If you find the book, bring it to Friday Night Dinner, okay? Go back to your dirtiness.

Lorelai: Oh, hey, the night of the rally, we're gonna need a sort of backstage gathering area.
Luke: You cannot gather here.
(Lorelai gestures to the square)
Lorelai: But it's right across from the --
Luke: You cannot gather here.
Lorelai: See, the stage is right over --
Luke: You cannot gather here.
Lorelai: Do you like my hair like this?
Luke: Yes, and you cannot gather here.
Lorelai: Wow. Sleeping with you is getting me nothing.

Episode Goofs
Even though Jackson's last name has been Melville throughout the series, a banner during his campaign reads "Belville" instead.

Episode Title: Tippecanoe and Taylor, Too

The title of this episode comes from the slogan 'Tippecanoe and Tyler, Too!', which was the first political slogan in America. The slogan was used during the 1840 Presidential campaign of William Henry Harrison and John Tyler. "Tippecanoe" was a nickname given to Harrison after troops led by Harrison destroyed a Shawnee settlement.

Gypsy: (about Taylor) He's our Papa Doc.

Francois "Papa Doc" Duvalier was the dictator of Haiti from 1957 to 1971.

Taylor: You will have Taylor Doose to kick around again.

This is a play on part of a speech given by Richard Nixon after he lost the 1962 California gubernatorial election.

Zack: Yo, John Nash, enough with the numbers!

John Nash is a mathematical genius whose life was the subject of A Beautiful Mind.

Lorelai: He just stood outside all night playing "In Your Eyes" on a boombox.

In the movie Say Anything the main character tries to win a girl's heart by standing outside of her house and playing Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" on a boombox.

Paris: (about Dean) Hoss returns. Who woulda thunk?

Hoss Cartwright is a character from the long-running show Bonanza.
