In the end, Joan's initial plan fails but luckly her back up plan works: getting the police to mistreat William blaming it as a racial thing, which turns out to be a prank. Unfortunately, the police that she hires are partners with Yvonne, the derange cop that William met on the Internet who's looking for revenge since he hasn't called her.
