Chuck and Raina spent the night together. Serena is going to go for
breakfast with Ben. Blair is headed for the first day of her internship.
She won't tell Serena where until she's done her first day. Serena says
it's like living with Don Draper. Dan got an internship thanks to Lily,
who is still feeling very sorry for herself over the Ben situation.
Ben wanted to let Serena know that an old college friend is starting an
organic farm up in Ithaca and he wants Ben to join him. After being
cooped up so long, he loves the thought of being outside all day,
working with his hands. He's leaving tomorrow. They hug goodbye. as Ben
leaves, he stops when he sees a 'help wanted' sign in the window. Serena
is inside, calling Rufus to ask if he used to have a plot in a community
garden.
Dan and Blair squabble about "Scorpio rising". They're basically dating
and refusing to admit it. They just go to movies together. She also
refuses to tell Dan what internship she got, and he returns the favor.
The guy who sold Juliet the drugs she used on Serena runs into her. He
wanted to make sure she's okay. Serena tells Damien that what he does
for a living is disgusting. He says he doesn't give anybody anything
they're not looking for. She tells him fine, he's only half responsible
for almost killing her.
Blair is doing an internship at W. She thought she was the only intern,
but there are four of them, already there; and Dan makes five.
Jonathan returns a book of Eric's. Lily hasn't seen him since he and
Eric broke up. She says that Eric and Elliot have been together nonstop
through the holidays, but she hadn't heard. Elliot broke up with Eric
before the holidays. Lily thinks Eric was at Elliot's just last night.
Damien arrives home, bearing coffee for Eric.
Serena arrives to see Ben. The address she has turns out to be that of a
halfway house.
As their supervisor hands out assignments, Blair tries to get rid of
Dan. He's in her world. Lily did this for him, pulling every string she
had. He can't quit. Blair is busy giving him a tongue lashing when the
supervisor interrupts. Blair tells her that Dan was just saying how he'd
rather be writing for the New Yorker. She remembers that he's an author,
and hands him a plum assignment.
Eric arrives home and finds out Lily knows he wasn't at Elliot's. She
starts tearing into him, but Jonathan asks for a moment alone. Eric asks
why he cares, he didn't care when he dumped him. Jonathan tells him he
was angry, but he never stopped caring. He offers to join Eric at the
party tonight so he'll have somebody to have fun with. Eric accepts.
Blair and Dan continue sniping. She tries to trick him, but since he
spent two years with Serena, he knows those shoes she's holding out to
him are Marc Jacobs, and mustard. Eww. Blair sabotages the other interns
in the hopes of being last one standing.
Nate's dad gets home and announces he got a job. He's financial adviser
with Thorpe Enterprises. Chuck is not amused to hear it.
Blair calls Dan a Benedict Arnold. He says the only reason she's still
there is because none of the other interns ratted her out for sabotaging
them. They decide on terms for their competition. Winner gets to stay,
the other resigns. It's gotta be a clean fight. Dan wants to know if
Blair grasps that as a concept. They shake on it.
Serena comes in bearing a package for Lily. Lily tries to pretend it's
nothing, and refuses to open it in front of Serena and Rufus. Serena
opens it herself and finds several packets of cash, including a note
telling Ben to stay away from her and family. The other side of the note
is from Ben, telling her to keep her blood money. Rufus just shakes his
head.
Eric walks in as Serena confronts her mother about Ben. He doesn't want
anything to do with her, because she's the daughter of the woman who
ruined the last three years of his life, and is actively trying to ruin
the rest of it. Lily says $30,000 is hardly going to ruin his life.
Rufus notes that she said she was going to help Ben find an apartment,
not pay him to disappear. Eric declares mom paid someone off again. We
should make this into a drinking game. Lily says Ben has information
that can ruin this family. What's wrong with not wanting him around.
Serena says he's blameless. He was a wonderful teacher who can't do what
he loves, thanks to Lily, and he deserves more. Rufus says he's going
out, and Serena is right behind him. Eric says "hold the elevator." He
texts Jonathan, asking him to meet him now.
Dan's got a big name author coming to the party, and Blair says she does
too. Dan can just stick his author under her author. They one-up each
other with their respective authors' credentials, and Dan wins with the
declaration that his author sits on the board where Stefan's niece is
applying to go to college.
Chuck arrives at Raina's and confronts her about hiring the Captain. She
tells him they acted in good faith. He asks her to fire the Captain.
Blair tries to get Serena in her corner. Serena can't believe that Dan
is possibly any kind of competition for Blair. Blair assures her that
every other intern is a slightly different, lesser version of her, but
Dan is different. She comes up with a way to unseat him, and Serena
tells her she can't sabotage him. Blair needs to win the spotlight on
her own merits, she'll feel better. She tells Serena to let Ben go, and
Serena returns "Let Dan be."
As the call ends, Dan shows up bearing food. He figures Blair for too
much of a snob to eat at the commissary.
Ben's filling out a job application which asks if he's ever been
convicted of a felony. Damien arrives and congratulates Ben on getting
out of prison. He asks if Ben needs any recreational drugs. Ben notes
the rumors are true, Damien's a dealer. Ben confronts Damien. He knows
he's the one who reported seeing Ben and Serena at the B&B. Damien
admits to it. Ben rather heatedly tells him that nothing happened that
night between him and Serena. Damien blithely returns "You say potato,
judge says pedophile."
Eric arrives. Damien thinks it's not a good idea to introduce them,
since Ben may or may not have statutorially raped his sister. This could
be a tad bit awkward. Ben calls Serena.
Their supervisor tells Dan he had a great first day. And his friend
Blair is competitive. He says he doesn't know what she's talking about,
and she admires his loyalty. She also says she knows what Blair is up
to. After she leaves, Dan calls Blair's author and tells her there's
been a terrible mix up.
Eric is at the party with Jonathan when Rufus arrives, sans Lily. She's
home licking her wounds. He only came to the party to get some air. When
Eric says he understands that being in the room with a selfish
manipulator can really suck the life out of you, Rufus takes offense and
excuses himself. Jonathan joins him, and Eric says he'll go get them
some appetizers. Instead, he approaches Damien.
Chuck arrives at the party and finds Blair working the door. Ben joins
Serena. He just wanted to fill her in on Eric joining Damien. She
doesn't believe him, and checks with Jonathan. He doesn't know where
Eric went, but he thinks he's being played. He thought Eric was through
his Jenny Humphrey phase. Jonathan leaves, and Ben and Serena look for Eric.
Dan and Blair each tell the other their author likely won't show up, but
Dan's does, and Blair realizes she was tricked.
Raina assures Chuck she's an honest woman. If she's talking, she's
speaking the truth. Chuck doesn't believe her. She no longer likes
Chuck. He tells her it's just business, and Raina says from now on, she
doesn't even know if they have that to discuss.
As Ben and Serena walk downstairs, they see Damien and Eric exchange
something. Damien says he's going to go get a drink, and refers to Eric
as 'babe'. Serena asks him about it, and Eric just smiles and says nothing.
Blair confronts Dan. He says he only did it because he thought she did
too. She says Hilary Clinton is her role model, and she doesn't break
treaties. They struggle, lose their footing and hit the deck just as a
VIP arrives. Their supervisor arrives and smiles as she tells them that
obviously they are both fired, and they are to go back to the office and
pack their things.
The Captain tells Nate that Chuck told Raina to fire him. Nate tells him
he'll get another job but Cap says he'd rather live in a halfway house
than live with someone who only halfway trusts him.
Dan tells Blair she'll get another job. He had no idea that she worked
so hard to land this job. She thought their fake friendship was real,
and that Dan would never do such a thing to her.
Serena and Ben try to talk to Eric about Damien. Eric tries to tell him
to butt out, but Ben continues. If Eric can't stay true to himself, he's
going to end up not even knowing who he is. Eric finally spills his guts
about how things have been for the past few months. She's right about
Damien. He won't see him anymore. As he walks away, Rufus asks for a
minute with Serena. He wonders if it's crossed her mind that Ben was
behind the things Juliet did. She sticks up for Ben, and tells Rufus
that he just gave Eric some really good fatherly advice, convinced him
to stay away from Damien. Rufus reacts to the name. Serena excuses
herself to find Ben.
Dan calls and apologizes to their supervisor in Blair's behalf.
Rufus asks Eric if he bought drugs and he says yes, but it was stupid
and he won't anymore.
Serena catches up to Ben, telling him she wants him to be his friend. He
doesn't want anything to do with her. He tells her he didn't reciprocate
back then, and he doesn't now.
Serena and Blair fill each other in on the past 24 hours. Blair's phone
rings, and it's her supervisor from W. Dan turned everything around so
it looked like it was his fault, and got Blair her internship back.
Rufus meets with Ben and apologizes to him for Lily's callous treatment
of him. He offers him a room in his loft. After everything that's
happened, it's the least they can do. Ben says he'll think about it -
but it sounds good.
Nate tries to call his dad, but he's checked out.
The Captain is with Thorpe, talking about how Nate tried to derail him.
After what Nate did to him, there is no conflict of interest anymore.
Whatever Thorpe needs, Cap is his guy.
Raina answers the door, and it's Chuck. He tries to make nice and she
accepts, but there's a man in a towel in her bathroom, so another time.
Blair tells her supervisor that Dan was never her friend.
Rufus fills Serena in on offering Ben the apartment.
Ben throws Damien against the wall in a choke hold, ordering him to stay
away from Serena and her family. If he doesn't want his father to find
out what he does, he better listen. Damien didn't listen, and called
Eric to hang out. Eric says sure.
