The End of The Affair? - Recap

The scene opens with Chuck meeting Louis as they are taking a walk in the rain by themselves. Chuck points out since gossip girl’s been out of the scene, they will have to depend on Blair for the truth. Besides, she has not talked as yet. Losing her baby has been a hard hit. When Chuck offers to walk Louis home because he is without an umbrella, he prefers not taking the help. But Chuck insists saying he knows they have their differences, but he doesn’t feel right letting him walk unprotected in the rain and cold, especially after he looks like he is about to catch a cough. He can’t leave Louis sick before his big day. Blair faded away from Chuck’s vision as his health nearly gave up in hospital after the accident. The sight left Blair in despair.

When Chuck enters Louis’ place, and waits for him to dry up, he sees Blair come down the steps. She lays in on him – since he can see she survived without him, he should understand she wants to keep it that way. So is he simply cut off from her life – just like that? She replies her New York wedding is in less than a month. The accident was the universe’s way of pointing out what was wrong. After Blair goes out, Chuck tells Louis that Blaire has asked him to tell him she has gone out to pick China patterns. When Louis is surprised that she has gone out to pick China patterns at this hour, Chuck replies he is sure that was her excuse to avoid him. Louis hopes that is true. Wouldn’t Serena know what Blair’s up to? No, she is not sharing anything with Serena. Louis wants to put a detective on Blair – he wants to be sure that the woman he is marrying is not having an affair. Chuck replies since both of them are right here, with who else could she be having an affair.

Next, Chuck visits Daniel. Chuck asks him if he knows about Blaire. He replies he doesn’t since he has been away. When Chuck tells him about Louis wanting to hire a private investigator thinking she is having an affair, Daniel replies that can’t be true, especially after all that Blair’s been through. Then Chuck asks if he could be the private investigator for Louis. He doesn’t want to spy on Blair, but when Chuck asks if he wants the truth to come out, he replies he does. After Chuck leaves, Daniel gets back to his room and hugs Blair. She tells him Chuck cannot know the truth.

Later, when Daniel meets Serena, she reveals that Blair has not got in touch with her, and besides, she wouldn’t even have her come for her gown rehearsal. Nate drops by and wants to know how Dan’s writing is going. Nate and Serena suggest he could set the backdrop in Alaska, and hope he is not writing anything behind his friends’ backs. Dan promises that will never be the case – a new year resolution. When Serena asks if he is feels up to taking a walk with her and Nate, he does, but he also has a few errands to run.
Dan arrives at Vera Wang, where Blair is doing her gown rehearsal. However, she breaks down when Dan talks about how beautiful she looks in it. She can only be reminded about losing everything, and she would rather have another gown. The designer has it ready – she thought Blair might change her mind. Not before long, a lady watches them and calls up Chuck. She reports that the guy with Blair is neither prince charming, nor a gay dress up artist. Chuck guesses it is a guy with curly hair, and someone who looks close to a loner. Yes, comes back the answer, and Chuck knows it is Dan. He is headed to Vera Wang.

Meanwhile, Nate receives a text from an anonymous sender doubting if he is a journalist with integrity. When Nate replies ‘I am, who are you?’ the reply comes the paparazzi did not cause the accident. Anonymous has done his or her research, Nate should do his. Chuck arrives in the Vera Wang neighborhood, but by then Dan and Blair have left. On the way to Dan’s place, Blair wants him to be with her – and he must keep their meetings a secret – not just for now, but forever. She is ready to lie if that does good for other people. Just as Dan enters the door with Blair, he receives a call from Chuck, who was in his limo across the street watching the two. Chuck hides himself when he calls Dan to know about Blair. Dan tells him they were at Vera Wang, but now she is out shopping for wedding trinkets. Chuck calls up Louis to let him know that Blair is at Dan’s place. Serena, who has dropped by at Louis’, comments that just because she met him secretively, they cannot prove she is having an affair. She hopes Louis will bring his fiancé so that she can get to spend a night with people who care about her. Meanwhile, as Nate goes through the pictures of the paparazzi accident, he comments the texter could be right. Although the driver that night passed the breathalyzer test, he wants to talk with him. Why don’t they invite him to the party.

Later at the party, when Blair and Louis arrive, Dan dashes off the opposite way. Not before long, Blair excuses herself. Louis gets to Chuck, and tells him about Dan’s movements. When Serena finds them, she notices they are talking about Blair. After they argue, the two guys insist they are right. She leaves saying she is going to find out the truth from her best friend. At the ladies room, Serena wants Blair to talk about what’s happening. She starts with her phase in the hospital. After she learnt she has lost her baby, she prayed that Chuck stays alive. However, when she went to see Chuck, she decided that just because he was alive by chance, doesn’t mean he can have her. Thereon, she started loving Louis and vowed to keep loving him. Since she had already prepared herself for a life without Chuck, she will rather cut him off. When Serena asks her about Dan, she reveals that the she was trying to put herself together by visiting the Church, and Dan was helping her. The place where they have been photographed, is outside the church where they went to consult a priest. Later when Dan gets confronted by Chuck and Louis, he tries to explain he is not having an affair with Blair, but he cannot say it all. Not before long, Serena drops in to announce Dan is having an affair with her. After finding Blair at the ladies room, Louis apologizes to her for stop trusting her.

Later, when Nate meets the driver of the Blair’s car, and finds out that his brake failed. Besides, he had checked it before driving. Not before long, when the party’s over, Blair meets Chuck. Since she is alone, Chuck thinks she has changed her mind, and wants to be with him. However, she has come to do yet another ego jiggle – she wants him to know he is a good person. And she wants him to preserve his goodness in spite of her cutting him off. Just because she can’t be with him, doesn’t mean she will love him. Later, Nate finds out that the car in which Blair suffered the accident, was actually meant for him. Not before long, the sender identifies herself as Gossip Girl – XoXo. The episode ends.
