Sofia Robbin Sloan Torres; one week old. One pound, one ounce. Yang,
Robbins and Bailey are working with Callie on her hand. She was working
on straightening her fingers. Mark comes in with a baby report and shows
Sofia to Robbin on his cell (video) while he gives her the good report.
Callie really wants to be with her daughter, but as long as she has
infection in her body, she cannot get near her. Miranda is sympathetic,
but stern. She leaves, and asks Yang to reiterate, so she does. Callie
raises an almost fist. "Are you giving me the finger?" "Yes, I am."
"Good job."
Karev and Hunt talk to an elderly woman who is trying to blame her
infection on them. Gladys talks over and through anything they try to
tell her. She claims she can afford any hospital in the world, and she
came to this third-rate crap factory. She's been here three weeks.
When's she getting out? Korev begs Hunt to discharge her. Hunt tries to
talk to her about her smoking but she interrupts, again. How high does
her white blood cell count have to be before they'll let her go? It's at
.8 now, he'd like it to be above a 2. She counters with "1". Hunt almost
laughs. This isn't a negotiation. Okay, 1.5 and he lets her go.
April tries to talk to Stark, but he freezes her out completely.
Meredith jokes about it, and April snaps. The chief walks up and they
share a rather awkward conversation. He takes off his coat, and in doing
so a post-it falls off his back. Meredith grabs it and calls for him,
but he's already out-of-range. She looks at the note, back at the chief,
and sighs.
Arizona is looking at some x-rays for a kid with several defects. She
was going to back to Africa to operate on him, but that's no longer an
option. Alex tells her to fly him here, and she says there's too much
red tape and too little money. Besides, there's another 12 just like
him. She wants to find somebody to take her place. She made a promise.
Christina tells Callie she's healing well, should be a couple of days.
Callie asks why Christina isn't draped over a heart somewhere, so she
gives her the abridged version of her falling out with Teddy. She's
giving her some space. Callie pushes to see her baby but Christina
points out that Sofia looks nothing like a baby at this point. She looks
like a featherless, beakless chicken.
April runs in announcing that Sofia opened her eyes. She saw her sweet
little eyes. They're beautiful. If looks could kill, Callie would have
taken her out right there. And then, she burst into tears and April
finally realized what an idiot she is. April leaves to get pictures, and
it's left to Cristina to calm down Callie, who is raging helplessly
because she can't see her baby.
Derek is going to operate on a patient. He tells the man that Dr. Grey
(Lexie) is going to start with the drill, but he won't feel anything.
Meredith shows him something and he turns his back on the patient, who
promptly starts seizing, then flatlines. Meredith asks what the hell
happened.
His EKG was fine. Massive heart attack. He doesn't know why they didn't
see it coming, but Derek is stopping the trial.
Cristina goes to bat with Stark for Callie. He refuses. Until the baby
is off the vent and has an immune system, they won't be in each other's
airspace. He's all for mother/baby bonding, but not if it can kill the
baby. He looks at Cristina like she's not speaking English. "Why do you
even ask me these things. I thought you were a doctor." Avery overhears
and mutters "Ouch!" as he grins at Cristina. She spins around and tells
him she needs his help with something.
Meredith brings the envelope down to the pharmacy lab and tells the tech
it's never been opened, and it needs to go back. She watches the keypad
as the tech enters the code to open the door.
Teddy arrives at Henry's. He needs to know if this is in the bonds of
normalcy, or does he need to go to the hospital. His blood sugar is 56
but he doesn't have any juice. He notices she's all dolled up and
realizes she was on a date. He feels bad, but Teddy tells him that he
saved her from the most boring date ever. She gives him a canoli, which
is perfect for what his blood sugar is doing.
Alex finds Gladys smoking in her room and reacts angrily. She asks about
her numbers, and they've actually dropped .2. She berates him for her
numbers going down, and throws him out of her room. Hunt asks how she's
doing, and reminds Karev that she's lonely and alone. Alex thinks he
knows why, but Hunt advises him to keep his assessments to himself. He
asks Karev what his plan is for chief resident. Besides badmouthing
patients. Does he have a plan? Alex says Africa. Hunt says it sounds
ambitious. It also sounds like he just pulled it out of his butt. Lexie
laughs, and Alex tells her to shut up.
Cristina comes through and says it's time. Everybody heads for Callie's
room. Cristina tells her to lay still, relax, and let them do
everything. They take her bed to the nursery. Miranda almost catches
them, so Avery grabs her attention so they can get Callie through. They
wheel Sofia to the window, and Cassie laughs and cries at her beautiful
baby girl. She holds her hand out and notices she's moving her finger at
Sofia. She tells her she's a little messed up, too; but they're both
going to be just fine.
Derek's patient's kids lied about their dad's heart condition because
they so desperately wanted him in the trial. Now Derek is trying to find
a new patient #122, and of course Meredith recommends Adele Webber.
Derek reminds her that she didn't pass the test. Meredith shows him the
post it. "This is Richard. Richard is your husband."
Sofia; Five weeks, two days. Two pounds, eight ounces. Callie's giving
her physical therapist fits. He's ranting at Arizona, who tries to talk
him down. Callie says he's a wuss. Let him go. That's the third guy this
month. Callie says nobody is pushing her hard enough. Arizona wants her
walking down the aisle, right? Not wheeling? No, her fiance wants her
healed. Callie is angry because Mark and Arizona can hold the baby, but
she can't.
Alex fills Stark in on his plans for the kids from Africa. Stark is the
head of peds, so he's talking to him. The hospital should do this, but
Stark disagrees. This project is worth nothing to the hospital. He
insults Alex by telling him that there are people who can do this sort
of thing, but he's not one of them.
Alex finds Gladys looking pretty rough, but she still gives him the
rough side of her tongue. He brainstorms, and asks her to donate to help
the kids. She calls him Sally Struthers and tells him to get out of her
face.
Meredith tells Derek that Adele is declining really fast. Why do they
even need to put her in the trial. Why can't they just give her the
medicine outside of the trial? Because it would ruin not only the trial,
but their careers along with it. He knows this, because he's already
thought about it.
Sofia needs surgery. Stark says that because legally the baby isn't
related to her, there's no reason Arizona can't join him in the OR.
She's happy he gave her this option. April asks if she should get the
baby prepped, and Stark says yes, it looks like he's stuck with her, too.
Callie hired Cristina as her new physical therapist. She's the only one
who pushes her hard enough. So she's pushing Cristina around the
hospital on a gurney. Cristina tells Meredith she stole Teddy's charts
because she hasn't been in a cardiac surgery in a month. That way, she
won't stagnate while she waits to get back in surgery. Callie tells
Meredith to jump on the gurney as well. She needs the resistance. Callie
is obviously stressed, but keeps on going.
They find Lexie and Karev in the hall, and she tells them that Alex
solicited a patient for money. Arizona waves everybody away so she can
tell Callie that Sofia needs surgery. She reassures Callie, who feels a
twinge and puts her hand on her stomach. She's bleeding. She passes out
on Arizona, who calls for help.
In surgery, Miranda announces that Callie forced herself into a rupture.
Cristina blames herself. Bailey tells her to knock it off. She's been
telling Callie for weeks to slow down; the woman doesn't listen. Mark
slows up to check on her, and Arizona calls to fill him in on Sofia.
Alex shows Gladys pictures of the African children, while she rages at
him. He finally leaves.
Mark and Arizona fill each other in on their respective surgeries. The
baby starts to lose ground, but Stark keeps her around. She's looking
good. Stark notices that everybody's crying.
Gladys asks Alex to roll her. She calls Lexie a ham-fisted twit that
doesn't know how. Alex reminds her what she said, but she doesn't care.
He's ordered to come take care of her. He won't agree until she promises
the $100k. She negotiates, but he won't budge. She agrees.
Teddy arrives at Henry's after another bad date. She fills him in on the
specifics while they share pasta from dinner.
Alex tells Meredith drinks are on him, courtesy of Dragon Lady and
$100k. He gets beeped and finds out Dragon Lady died before he could get
his money.
Meredith finds Adele in the waiting room. They chat a bit, and it
becomes obvious that Adele thinks Meredith is her mother, Ellis. She
wants her husband back. Meredith can't get through to her, so she tells
Adele that she will give her back her husband. He's all hers.
Sofia; twelve weeks. Five pounds, eight ounces. Beautiful. Cassie picks
her up, and Miranda joins them. She's being discharged.
It's going to cost Alex $500 to get his trailer out of impound. He
should have paid the tickets.
Richard wheels Adele in for her MRI, and she recognizes Meredith. As she
heads in, Meredith reassures the chief that she's going in for surgery
right after the MRI. He thanks her for catching Adele's slide.
The African kids are arriving tonight. Korev is passing the kids out to
the residents, they each get one. Arizona arrives, all excited. The kids
are in the States. She hugs him. After she leaves, he vomits. He tells
Lexie "I'm in so much trouble." He brings her up to speed. He's up to
his ears in debt, and he has nothing. She says he committed fraud, and
he's in deep serious. He leaves.
Meredith lets herself into the locked room and grabs some envelopes. She
looks at them on the x-ray board, so she'll know who gets the drug and
who gets the placebo. She comes out, and Alex gives her an envelope for
her African kid. He notices she's up to something but she won't give him
a straight answer, and Lexie arrives holding out a letter from an
attorney. He panics, and attempts to tear it up. She stops him, because
it's a check for $200k from the Dragon Lady. He gets all misty.
Derek starts working on Adele. Meredith brings in the envelope, and he's
relieved to see she's slated to receive the active agent.
Callie doesn't want to go home until Sofia does, and Stark says if she
can pass the carrier test, she's free to go home. There's going to be
three doctors there, so he's making an exception. Arizona gives him big
hugs, and Stark gets a little uncomfortable. April gives him kudos,
because people are getting to see the Robert she knows, and likes. He
corrects her. "It's Dr. Stark."
Henry is preparing a candlelight dinner, but Teddy is having a great
date and won't be joining him. She drops off pasta for him. He smiles
until the door is shut. She gets back in the car with her date, and they
kiss.
Sofia did her one hour in the car carrier, and she gets to go home.
Callie is apprehensive. Cristina is sad because Callie is her last heart
patient, and she's going home. Teddy still isn't speaking to her. Callie
starts having an anxiety attack. She's afraid of everything - especially
cars. Cars aren't safe. The last time she was in a car, she nearly died.
They both nearly died. She wants her out of the car seat. Miranda tells
her that anything can get her baby. Squirrels. Strong winds. People who
sneeze. She doesn't feel this way because she was in an accident. She
feels this way because she's a parent. It'll pass. Mostly. Some of it
never will.
Derek and Meredith wish they could tell Richard that Adele got the real
stuff.
Alex's patients arrive.
Callie and Sofia go home. She flashes a big smile to Mark.
