She's Gone - Recap

The season premier of Grey's Anatomy provided the usual huge disaster to get viewers hooked right in. Right from the beginning, a half-football field sized sinkhole opens up in Seattle on the street and takes out a Danny and Susannah in addition to quite a few other people. The couple had been arguing, prior to the sinkhole incident and after, Susannah is pinned under her car. She is not conscious, and can only be saved by removing her leg. Of course, Callie and Owen are immediately upon the scene, but, they cannot go down there and Danny ends up having to do the amputation. They talk him through it as patiently as they can and he ends up doing an excellent job. He got to the bone before he lost it, and Owen ended up down in the hole anyway to complete it.

Cristina and Meredith continue to look after Zola while living together, but while this is going on, their significant others are working together on Derek's house. As they're doing this, man chatter reveals that they do not really care about Meredith and Cristina at all. Of course, Derek is still angry and this has him lashing out being mean, but Owen's complaints are a little hard to believe.

When Meredith gets called in by Richard, he reveals that the board has informed him that he must fire her. Naturally, she is upset but has decided that she'd like to focus on being a better mother- only, Cristina seems to think that she should have bigger, broader ideas in terms of her future. Initially, she seems very confused, thinking that Meredith is kidding, but then again- she's got her own issues to deal with.

Teddy has taken her back to the service, however, the problem is, she has an abortion scheduled for that night. She hasn't already terminated, and between the loss of Owen and this she seems to be very upset.

Owen, for his part absolutely refuses to speak to her, won't take her phone calls and doesn't even know that she has not yet had the abortion. This ends when Meredith, frustrated by her own issues commands Owen to talk to her. She then reveals to him that Cristina has not yet terminated the pregnancy and he seems to be a little more than surprised by this news.

For her part, Meredith is incredibly stressed out, already. She had to deal with Janet, who was working on the home study for Zola. Janet is astute, noting that there's something going on that Meredith isn't revealing and begins to question Derek. Derek gets very angry, confronting Meredith and accusing her of messing up the adoption process and once Janet finds out that she is fired, she is also concerned. Meredith seems to be calming down, and she says that she is going to go and find Derek, because they need to discuss this all at once. However, she doesn't do that, at all. She snatches Zola up from the nursery and then quickly makes an exit.
