When the nurses at Seattle Grace go on strike, the doctors are forced to work without them. While most of the doctors cross the picket line, George refuses to cross due to his union roots. With Bailey on maternity leave, the interns meet their temporary resident, Dr. Sydney Heron, who is the exact opposite of Dr. Bailey, which Cristina has a hard time adjusting to. Meanwhile, secrets from Izzie's past are revealed as she treats a young, pregnant teen; and Meredith makes a mistake in treating an elderly patient.

Episode Quotes

George: Can't.. ca.. can't cross the picket line. I can't.
Izzie: I don't like it either George, but what choice do we have? You took an oath to heal. You're a healer.
George: Dad's a truck driver. Mom's a teacher. If the evening news shows me crossing the picket line, they'll out live me just to pee on my grave.

Sydney: Anyone care to probe the wound?
Cristina and Alex: (at the same time) I do.
Alex: I'd really like to try your method of healing with love.
Sydney: I like the way you think, Alex. You do the honours.
(Cristina shakes her head)

Meredith: (voice-over). We can't help ourselves. We see a line, we want to cross it. Maybe it's the thrill of trading the familiar for the unfamiliar. A sort of personal dare. Only problem is, once you've crossed, it's almost impossible.. to go back. (...) But if you do manage to make it back across that line, you find safety in numbers.
