Wow, a whole lot happened in this episode, the biggest moment (out of the many) probably being the end of Burke and Cristina. I expected Cristina to walk out on Burke, not the other way around, especially after his insanely romantic vows, so that was quite the shocker. Sandra Oh stole the scene after Cristina’s “I’m free” moment. She did such a good job that the scene was almost painful to watch seeing Cristina break down.
And speaking of gut-wrenching, Meredith walking out after Derek’s speech was completely gut-wrenching. Meredith is pretty much tanking their relationship, and I don’t know how much more of Meredith’s inability to commit I can take.
George failing his exam was also shocking. I figured something big would happen with the test results, but I never guessed George would be the one to fail. Poor George.
Izzie telling George that she’s in love with him wasn’t too shocking, but it was nicely done. I wasn’t much of a fan of the George-Izzie relationship for most of the season, but after that scene I began pulling for them. Katherine Heigl and TR Knight are just too good together on-screen to make me hate the George-Izzie relationship. I did wish that George said something, though. Watching him sit completely silent was tough to watch. I really want to know what he was thinking.
There wasn’t much closure to the Alex-Ava storyline. I assume they left it open for a possible conclusion or another guest arc next season, and hopefully that will be the case.
Overall, the episode was pretty good. Not as completely awesome as last season’s three-parter finale, but it had everything that I’ve come to expect from a Grey’s Anatomy finale – a hearty dose of drama, comedy, and general tugging of the emotions. Can’t wait to see how it all plays out in season 4.
