Episode Quotes
Meredith: (opening voiceover) We all remember the bed time stories of our childhood. The shoe fit Cinderella, the frog was turned into a prince, sleeping beauty was awakened with a kiss. Once upon a time and then they lived happily ever after. Fairy tales. The stuff of dreams. the problem is, fairy tales don't come true. It's the other stories. The ones that start in dark and stormy nights and end in the unspeakable. The nightmares always seem to become the reality.

Bailey: I have a dream, Yang, that one day a trauma, will come through these doors. I have a dream.
Cristina: I share that dream.

Meredith: What happened!?
Cristina: A bus in front of him hit a telephone pole. He tried to swerve and miss it, but ...
Meredith: How bad is it?
Richard: Meredith --
Cristina: Meredith, you're gonna have to be strong.

Richard: We're sloppy, just like everybody else. We've been resting on our laurels. You have all been failing. Failing to take initiative. Failing to ask tough questions. Failing to practice your skills. Failing to give opportunity to practice skills. And I let it happen. So you have not failed. We have failed. Well, it stops, and it stops now.

Mark: Crap, his vocal cords are damaged beyond repair.
Lexie: Is there anything that we can do?
George: He probably won't talk again.
Mark: I think that question was for me.
George: Sorry.
Mark: You think just 'cause you get to take your intern test again, that makes you big man on campus? Doesn't change the fact you failed the first time.
Lexie: Dr. Sloan.
Mark: I'm sorry, Grey. Was there something you wanted to say to anyone here?
Lexie: No, there wasn't.
Mark: Coward.
Lexie: Shut up.
George: Lexie!

Derek: Busy OR today.
Rose: But that's kind of you're thing, right? Juggling more than one person at the same time.

Izzie: How are you doing?
Alex: You keep asking me that, and I keep telling you, I'm fine.
Izzie: I know, it's just sometimes I still think that Denny's gonna be right around the corner, and he's been dead a long time now. It just takes a while to get used to.
Alex: Rebecca didn't die. It's not like that for me. I'm good. But thank you for asking.

Richard: Twelve. Twelve, O'Malley!
George: It's so upsetting. Sir--
Richard: This is not a number twelve teaching hospital.
George: No, it's a great--
Richard: I do not run the number twelve surgical program in the country.
George: Sir--
Richard: Out with it, O'Malley.
George: We've been downgraded from a level one trauma centre to a level two? What does that even mean? You don't need to ex-explain. It's-- It's just details. I can go.

Meredith: (closing voiceover) Once upon a time. Happily ever after. The stories we tell are the stuff of dreams. Fairy tales don’t come true. Reality is much stormier. Much murkier. Much scarier. Reality. It’s so much more interesting than living happily ever after.
