The surgical staff tries to stay positive when a young woman, despite brain surgery, is clinging to life after a brutal attempted rape. Meanwhile, Meredith risks her spot in the intern program when she crosses the line in order to save a newborn suffering from a undiagnosed heart condition. The other interns learn that in order to be a good surgeon and doctor, much more than medial knowledge is needed.

Episode Quotes

Meredith: The line is drawn.
Derek: Is the line imaginary or do I need to get you a marker?
(They start to kiss)

Meredith: Here's what I know. There are some lines too dangerous to cross. But there are others…if you're willing to throw caution to the wind and take a chance, the view from the other side is spectacular.

Meredith: George, Izzie, you can move into the house.
George and Izzie: Yes!
George: I can't believe you caved!
Meredith: I can't believe I caved.

Derek: (to the rapist) I have good news and bad news. The good news is that we managed to stop the bleeding. The bad news is that we gave your penis to the cops.

Meredith: Dr. Bailey, I was hoping to assist you in the OR today. Maybe do a minor procedure. I think I'm ready.
(...)
Bailey: Stop talking. Every intern wants to perform his first surgery. That's not your job. Do you know what your job is? To make your Resident happy. Do I look happy? No. Why? Because my Interns are whiny.
(...)
Bailey: Nobody holds a scalpel 'till I'm so happy I'm Mary freakin' Poppins.

Cristina: (to George) Bambi, don't say another word until after the hunter shoots your mother.

Alex: My head hurts.
Cristina: Maybe it's a tumor.
Alex: You wish I had a tumor?
Cristina: Look, I'd rip your face off if it meant I got to scrub in.

Izzie: I wouldn't have called you but I can't get hold of a translator. Can you just ask her what's wrong?
Cristina: No. I grew up in Beverly Hills. The only Chinese I know is from a Mr. Chow's menu. Besides, I'm Korean.

Meredith: Oh my g - that's his . . .that's his . . . she bit it off.
Burke: (holds up body part) What is it?
Meredith: That's his penis.

Meredith: So the police say they can't send the crappy crime-scene guy down for hours. So I have to spend the night with the penis.
(camera moves to Alex' face)
Meredith: Alex.. don't say it!
Alex: Ah, it was too easy anyway.

Burke: Do you think I'm too competent?
Bailey: No.
Burke: Don't lie.
Bailey: You are my boss.
Burke: Allright then. Everything you say in the next 30 seconds is free, starting now.
Bailey: (hestitates for a moment) I think you're cocky, arrogant, bossy and pushy. You also have a god-complex, you never think about anybody but your damn self...
Burke: But I...
Bailey: Hey, I still have 20 more seconds. I'm not done.

(in the beginning of the episode)
George: (to Christina) Do you know what the code team does? Saves lives. I shock a heart, and someone lives to see another day. That's upbeat. It's a glass half full.
(at the end of the episode)
George: I lost five patients on the code-team today. I feel like the angel of death.
Christina: George, 95% of all code patients can't be revived. Most of them are seriously dead before you even get there.
George: What? Why didn't you tell me that when I was going on and on about how great it was going to be?

Episode Goofs

At the end when Derek and Meredith are standing by the elevator, Derek closes his cellphone, and the next shot it's open, and he closes it again then puts it in his pocket.

While George is brushing his teeth in the locker room, in one shot he has toothpaste on his face. When the shot returns to him, the toothpaste is gone.

While talking to Derek, Meredith's hair is in a ponytail. However, when she leaves the building with the others, her hair is down.

Cristina's hair clip changes colors during a scene during the episode. In the beginning it's yellow, but it switches to brown then back to yellow.
