Guiding Light: Monday May 3, 1999

Max and Susan realize they're trapped in the diner. As the two young teens struggle to breathe, Cassie notices the smoke from outside, and hears Susan and Max yelling. Cassie enters and saves them, but collapses before she can get out herself. Jim takes Beth to the ER, concerned that she's sprained an ankle from their tennis lesson. Lillian privately reminds Beth of her tennis trophies, but Beth defends herself, determined to win Jim, who she thinks is a terrific guy. Jim returns and tells Beth he has more fun with her every time he sees her. Selena prepares to tell Drew that she's her mother, but dinner is interrupted when Buzz gets a call that the diner is on fire! They all rush down to the diner, learning that Cassie is stuck inside the burning diner. Buzz rescues her, and then breaks down in Selena's arms at the tremendous loss of his family diner. After Cassie is rescued, Jim takes her in his arms and thanks her for saving Susan's life. Beth looks on, jealous. Carmen taunts Michelle, preparing to kill her. Michelle lashes back at her, saying Carmen's blaming her for the loss of her children, when in reality Carmen's to blame! Carmen gloats about Michelle's impending death when David arrives, informing them of Danny's car accident! They rush to the hospital, where Rick is in charge of Danny's case. As Danny's wife, Michelle takes responsibility for Danny's care, and signs a release form for surgery as an angry Carmen watches. Later, Danny awakens and squeezes Michelle's hand.
