Guiding Light: Wednesday May 5, 1999

Beth asks Phillip's advice for how to compete with Cassie. Phillip assures her that Cassie's not in competition with her, since she just lost Hart. He asks her to have compassion for Cassie's situation. Beth knows he's right, and vows to go over to Cassie's to see if she needs any help. Jim helps Cassie install smoke detectors at the farm. He opens up to her about Max and Susan. Later, he falls off the ladder into Cassie's arms, and they both land on the floor laughing... just as Beth enters. Harley wants Max punished for starting the fire, and Susan defends him. Harley understands Max didn't set the fire on purpose, and agrees to let Susan visit Max at the police station on the way to school. Buzz admits to Selena that he doesn't have the money to reconstruct the diner. As Buzz sits alone at home, the winning numbers for the English Sweepstakes are announced on the radio, unheard. They match the lottery ticket Jenna purchased before her death... which now lies on the floor, forgotten. David apologizes to Vicky for missing their date. Vicky pretends her purse was stolen in order to get sympathy, and describes the thief as looking just like David. They agree to have dinner tonight to make up for the missed date. Josh and Reva talk about San Cristobel, which Reva seems to know all about despite never having been there. She guesses it's because Sarah must have told her about the island, and asks Josh to go there on their honeymoon. Josh agrees. Drew is upset that Max spent the night at juvenile hall. Max's foster mother visits, and Max yells at her for pretending to care. Drew says she wants custody of Max, but he acts tough, telling her to leave him alone. Susan arrives and helps Max escape.
