Alan calls a meeting of the Spaulding board to pressure Gus into making a choice between his family and Harley. When Lizzie blasts Gus and shows her bruises to Alan and Alex, Alan surprises everyone by remaining calm and insisting Lizzie is overreacting. But, when Gus quits and declares he wants nothing to do with the Spauldings, Alan makes it clear Gus will lose not only his job, but also his inheritance and his home if he chooses to go against the family. Olivia and Bill enjoy the spectacle, watching what they believe is the beginning of the end of the Spauldings. When the local media descends on Harley and Zach, she realizes just how much the impending trial will impact her son. Harley is desperate to protect Zach but when Buzz suggests she accepts Jeffrey’s plea bargain, she refuses and decides instead on a more heartbreaking alternative to keep the press away from Zach. She takes a room at the Springfield Inn, unaware that on the other side of her wall, Gus has taken a room of his own, having sacrificed everything for the one he loves. Cassie is relieved to discover that she is not pregnant, freeing her from the fear that Jonathan could have been the father. Edmund is naturally disappointed but realizes they can now move on to the next step, in vitro, and still make the baby they both want. Later, Jeffrey urges Cassie to start fresh with Edmund and keep no secrets. Meanwhile, Dinah gets wind of Edmund and Cassie’s plans and begins asking her new doctor friend Corey everything she can about modern pregnancy methods.
