Hannibal

Show Tidbits
Bryan Fuller has always had an outline for the series. Originally, his plan was for Season 1 to establish the relationship between Will and Hannibal, Season 2 was to be about the "break up," and Season 3 was to explore the hunt and capture of Hannibal. Season 4, 5, and 6 would then adapt Red Dragon, The Silence of the Lambs, and Hannibal, respectively. The seventh season would be an original storyline to end the series. For a variety of reasons, the map has changed after Season 2. Season 3 combined the hunt for Hannibal with a rough adaptation of Hannibal (even though the story is chronologically last) in the first half with second half of the season adapting Red Dragon. Despite the cancellation, Fuller has continued to discus plans for the rest of the show, but it remains to be seen and hinges on how or if the show will continue.

One of the biggest issues plaguing the show has been securing the rights to the character of Clarice Starling. Although De Laurentiis Entertainment has essentially the rights to most of Thomas Harris's characters, MGM has the rights to those first introduced in The Silence of the Lambs. A few of the characters are introduced in the series under different names with slight alterations. Contingency plans for the show post-Red Dragon should the character remain unavailable have ranged from a substitute with a different name to simply continuing the series with Will Graham.

Cancelled after 3 seasons, Hannibal is currently Bryan Fuller's longest running series.

The character of Will Graham was first portrayed onscreen in the film Manhunter by William Peterson who would later star as the lead of CSI. When Peterson left the series, the lead was assumed by Laurence Fishburne.

The names of Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy are both placed together at the opening of the title sequence. However, their arrangement with one another changes back and forth between each episode.

The series is filmed in Ontario, Canada with most of the first half of Season 3 also filmed in Florence, Italy.
