Recap

At the Carlton, Paladin is in his room cleaning his gun when Hey Boy comes in with his meal. A man, Mr. Warren, barges in and Paladin reminds him that he's warned him before not to harass Hey Boy or try to offer him money. Warren explains that he wants to hire Paladin to protect Aaron Bell from him. Aaron has been out of prison for a week and already bought a gun and horse. Warren figures that Aaron plans to kill him or one of his fellow townspeople in Lime Creek. Paladin notes that Warren's town hung Aaron's brother Paul eight years ago for fighting on the opposite side of the Civil War. Warren insists that he's going to kill Aaron in self-defense if he has to, but wants Paladin to keep them from having to kill the man...

Episode Quotes
Paladin: Now which one are you?
Frazier: But you just said my name, I...
Paladin: Yes, I know your name. But which one are you? Are you the one who put the rope around his neck? Or did you cry out for the trap to be sprung, huh?
Frazier: There were a lot of hands on the rope that night.

Aaron Bell: When my brother was still swinging in that tree, the mob quieted down because they got a little sick about what they done. And I heard a man say, "God forgive me." While Paul's body was still swinging in the tree and the light was still on his face, he was asking forgiveness. Well, if that man is allowed to live out his days, there ain't no God.

Freida Howard: Why did he bring you here?
Aaron Bell: Ask.
Paladin: Very simple. He's going to kill one of you. Problem is to find out which one.
