Fisherman Hank Olson finds a washed-up ship on the beach and approaches it. It bears the sign of the Fisherman's Honor and he recognizes the name. Entering it, Hank finds shards of metal scattered on the deck... and a man's rotted corpse tangled in a net. It has a crucifix around its neck.

Nathan and Audrey arrive to investigate, and Nathan explains there were at least five men on board. The owners, James Garrick and Andy Weaver, disappeared when the boat went down. James was a drinker, and Andy's wife Vera blamed the ship's sinking on him. As the officers go in, Vera arrives and Hank holds her back as the remove Andy's corpse. She curses James, and Hank gives her the crucifix as she breaks into tears.

At the Garrick home, Tracy asks her daughter Brooke to stay that night and watch over her brother Michael. Brooke had plans, and as she argues, Tracy's keys move off the table by themselves and land on the floor. Brooke gives in and Tracy notices the keys are gone, and finally finds them. There's a knock at the door, and Vera is there to show Tracy the crucifix.

At the station, Nathan and Audrey talk to Hank, who worked for James and Andy building boats. Hank insists that the sea took the boat, but Nathan is more interested in the heavily corroded parts.

Vera tells Tracy that the boat washed in and what's left of her husband Andy was below decks. She suggests that James was drunk and Andy was there to help him, and James got him killed. When Tracy blames Vera, Tracy tells her to get out and a high wind sweeps through the wind and slams Vera into the door.

Nathan and Audrey come to see the Garricks, and Brooke and Michael argue about who was to blame. Brooke insists that her father was responsible, and Michael defends her father, while Tracy believed that Andy ran off. Tracy says that she plans to leave town since the townspeople despise her for James getting the crew killed. Nathan asks her about the unusually corroded pieces, and Tracy admits she has no idea where her husband bought them. She suggests that Nathan ask Duke. Outside, Nathan explains that James was his Little League coach, and worked three jobs. Tracy moved to Haven, and Nathan doesn't know if her family had Troubles. He wonders if Audrey thinks a ghost is responsible, and Audrey admits she doesn't know.

On a road outside of town, Duke meets with Karl and pays him to set up a meeting with Stoney. Nathan pulls up and Duke pretends that Nathan works for him. Karl warns that the people Duke stole from are going to kill him, but Duke insists. After Karl leaves, Duke claims he's doing charity work.

Audrey goes to the Grey Gull to talk to Tracy, who works there as a waitress. Audrey isn't convinced that it's a haunting, and Tracy tells her to leave her family out of it. She insists that there are no Troubled in her family, but Audrey warns that even family keep secrets from each other. Tracy is angry that everyone in town mocks her, and tells Audrey to ask her family if she has questions.

Jake comes over to see Brooke, and Michael warns that Tracy doesn’t want him there. Brooke tells him not to say anything and then tells Jake she's worried about the rumors and innuendo starting up again now that the boat has been found. Jake tries to kiss her and refuses to take no for an answer. The same force springs up and propels Jake backward, slamming his head into the wall.

Michael calls Audrey, who comes in. Tracy isn't happy to see her, but Audrey notes that Jake was injured and Brooke ran off. Audrey suggests that poltergeists appear when a child is emotionally upset, and Brooke was there both times. Tracy wonders how they can stop her daughter, and tells Audrey where she might find her.

Nathan explains that the boat went down to shoddy parts and accuses Duke of selling James and Andy the parts. Duke insists that he only sold his friends non-essential parts. He claims to know who did sell the corroded parts, but wants Nathan to bail him out of a jam .Stoney thinks that he stole from the criminal, but Duke insists that he didn't. He explains that Stoney hired him to ship a box, but when it arrived it was empty. Stoney paid him with counterfeit money. Duke has a plan but admits that it's a work in progress.

Audrey finds Brooke at the park where she went with her father. She suggests that Brooke is one of the Troubled, but the girl angrily insists that she's not one of the freaks, and is just a nobody. She breaks into tears and Audrey hugs her.

Duke explains his plan to Nathan. He gets out from under Stoney, and Nathan gets to arrest a counterfeiter. Nathan reminds him that when they were in third grade, Duke played a trick on him by sticking tacks on his back and sending him to meet a girl. Duke wonders if Nathan is willing to let him die for that, and Nathan considers it.

Tracy is at home with Michael when some men throw a rock through the window and drive off. There's a newspaper article about James wrecking the boat wrapped around the stone. When Michael sees it, he starts to vibrate uncontrollably. Tracy manages to calm him down, while the newspaper page crumples up in the air and goes flying away

The next day, Audrey comes to see Tracy, who is showing her house to an elderly couple. They want to see James' office, but Michael insists that they stay out. Tracy explains that they've kept it just like it was, and the couple immediately leaves.

Nathan arrives at the Grey Gull and Duke gives him the bag of counterfeit money. Nathan gives Duke his badge and a cop, and then sits down and waits for seizure.

Tracy explains about Michael's condition, and how James the same condition in 1983 as a boy. His parents got Lucy Ripley to help James hold himself together until his problem passed. Now Tracy realizes that James was talking literally, and asks Audrey to help.

Stoney, a woman, arrives at the restaurant with her men. She suggests they kill Duke and split the money. Nathan immediately agrees, but Stoney realizes it's her counterfeit money. Duke arrives, pretending to be a "Special Agent," and arrests Stoney and her men. Nathan collects their guns and explains that he's a real cop. He takes them away, after making sure he gets his badge back.

Audrey talks to Michael in James' office, and the boy explains that James told him about his powers. Michael insists that he didn't use his powers against Vera and Jake, however. Audrey is skeptical until a book goes flying on its own. She sends Michael out and then calls out to Michael, saying he's trying to protect his family. Audrey then reaches out and manages to grasp James and cause him to materialize, vibrating back into existence. James mistakes Audrey for Lucy, and explains that he's tried to help his family without success. His body has accelerated and he's moving so fast he can't be seen. James apologizes for hurting Vera and Jake, but Audrey realizes he was protecting his family.

Nathan gets Duke to explain that Hank Olson works with Sal and Nancy Fortuna, who own a metalworks and sold the parts to James and Andy. The Fortunas cut corners, and used Hank to convince James and Andy to buy the parts. As Nathan goes, Duke apologizes for the tacks.

James tells Audrey that he was never on the boat. Michael took photos of the boat for a project, and James realized the parts were bad. Furious, James had a seizure when he tried to warn Andy. He vanished, and Andy took the boat out and died. James talks about how the first night after he died, Tracy was looking at photos of their honeymoon trip and crying, but he couldn't touch her. Michael, Brooke, and Tracy come in and Audrey loses her grip, and James vanishes. Audrey asks to talk to Tracy in private. She tries to explain what happened to James, but Tracy think she's playing some sick prank. Audrey tells her about the photo, convincing Tracy. She asks if Tracy can bring her husband back again. Before Audrey can do so, Nathan calls and tells her that he's going after Hank Olson. He figures that the Fortunas will destroy any evidence that links them to James.

Audrey goes to James' office but doesn't anything. She hears someone outside and goes to the living room, and finds the elderly homebuyers holding the Garricks hostage. Audrey realizes that they're Sal and Nancy Fortuna. The couple wants Michael's photos, but he has another seizure and starts vibrating. He inadvertently bumps Audrey, making her drop her gun. Sal takes it and Audrey manages to stabilize the boy. She offers herself as a hostage, pointing out they can't kill all four of them. Nancy decides to set the house on fire and make it look like an accident. Audrey approaches them, and then reaches out and touches James. He touches the Fortunas, knocking them back into unconsciousness. James disappears again when Audrey loses her grip.

Nathan arrests Hank and the police bring in the Fortunas. Audrey then tells the Garricks what happened and Tracy asks her to bring James back. James appears and explains that appearing this last time has taken everything he's got. He won't be coming back. Brooke apologizes and Michael insists that he can't go, but James promises them that he'll still be there. He tells them to listen for the bell on the wall from his first ship, and he'll ring it to let them know that he's watching over them. He then thanks Audrey for what Lucy did, and admits that when he had his first seizure, he broke a glass and she cut her foot. James fades away, leaving his family behind.

Nathan prepares to burn the counterfeit money, and Duke admits that he did good. He suggests Nathan might pursue some criminal possibilities, but Nathan tells him that he couldn't keep up. As they start playing poker with the counterfeit money, Nathan notes that Duke technically arrested his ass. They share a drink together.

Audrey comes to see Tracy at the restaurant and assures her that the Teagues will make sure the town knows what really happened, so that she doesn't have to leave. Tracy wonders how Audrey could touch James when she couldn't, and says that Lucy would be proud of her.

As she goes, Audrey sees Nathan and Duke talking amiably together. She then goes to the beach and the Colorado Kid's murder site, sits down, and removes her sock. There's a large scar on her foot.
