At the docks, Captain Robbie of the
Maggie Kelly tells his crew to get some coffee so he has room to work on the ship’s crane. The crane starts on its own and drops the load of fish on him.
At the Grey Gull, Duke shows the two Audreys the new apartment he’s opening up below. They go out on the balcony and talk about what Duke knows about their situation. Audrey Two talks about the lake house they stayed at and the wind chimes that hung out on eaves. Audrey asks her counterpart if she knows anything about Lisa Ripley, and Audrey Two admits she doesn’t. However, Audrey Two checked the book that Agent Howard left for them and discovered it contains latitude and longitude coordinates. They lead to a remote piece of land, Kick’em Jenny’s Neck, which can only be reached by boat. Audrey gets a call and Audrey Two goes to check out the coordinates on her own while she heads to the docks.
At the docks, Audrey and Nathan approach the site and Audrey asks when he’ll be moving into his dad’s office. The ship’s owner, Jimmy Halsey, tells them that they have everything under control. Nathan reminds him that he’s the interim chief . Jimmy reminds them that he owns the docks as well as the ship. The
Maggie Kelly starts up on it own and tries to pull away from the dock. The crane activates and drops anchor... onto Robbie, crushing him to death.
Afterward, Jimmy insists that the ship is fine and he needs it released. Audrey demands the repair manifests and asks him if he knows about the Troubled. He ignores her question and walks off. Nathan checks and discovers that everyone liked Robbie.
Back at the station, the Teagues tell Nathan and Audrey what they’ve discovered about the boat. It turns out that it was originally the
Sea Star, a boat that went down ten years ago. Halsey had it brought up and refurbished. The only person who could have done the work is Louis Pufahl. Nathan and Audrey talk to Louis at his shop where he ‘s working on an RC car. He tells them that Halsey claimed everything was square with the families, and that when the boat was brought up, the bodies of the crew were still at their posts. Louis’ friend Marcia arrives and brings him a casserole. She asks Nathan about the letter she left for the hot stove meeting in his father’s box. As they go, Nathan explains that the hot stove meetings were meetings the townspeople could call for to discuss problems. He’s not interested in continuing it.
Audrey and Nathan are called to the road where they discover that a car was crushed by a crane a block away from the docks. They talk to the car’s owner, Curtis, who explains that he’s a union organizer and was at the dock talking to Robbie. Halsey knows about him and isn’t a fan. As they watch Halsey leave, Audrey wonders if the owner is responsible. She suggests that they provoke Halsey into turning the machines against them. They go to his shipyard and threaten to shut him down, and a forklift activates and approaches Halsey. He backwards away from it and directly into a ship’s propeller that turns on and cuts off the back of his head, killing him. They realize that the machines are working together and that someone else is controlling them... or they’re controlling themselves.
Duke is working at the new apartment when Evi comes in. She offers to rent it but he says he’s already rented it to the Audreys. Evi suspects that he can’t control himself around her and thinks that it’s encouraging. Audrey Two arrives and he quickly agrees to talk to her.
At the station, Nathan and Audrey conclude that the wave of living machines is moving into town from the docks. Marcia calls Audrey and informs her that a hockey puck-shooting machine is going berserk.
Audrey Two asks Duke to take him to Kick’em Jenny’s Neck. When he demands payment, Audrey Two shows him a file and he quickly agrees. Evi watches and confronts Duke as he prepares to leave. He finally admits that a fence he used flipped to the police and Audrey Two has the photos. If he takes her to the site, she’ll give him the files. Evi offers to steal the files for him but he says that he has it under control. As they leave, Evi goes to Audrey Two’s car.
Audrey and Nathan go to the ice rink and Nathan shuts down the machine. Marcia explains that she’s had enough and is moving to a houseboat in Florida, and that other machines have activated on their own. She shows them a player piano that is playing by itself. As they examine it, Audrey starts playing the piano and admits to Nathan that she never has before... and wonders if Lisa Ripley did. As they go, Marcia mentions that Louis works on her equipment. Once she goes, they realize that Louis is the connection because he fixed everything that came to life.
As they go to the island, Audrey Two admits that she thinks Duke is the most normal person she’s met. She explains that she has a boyfriend, Brad, whom she met after Audrey got to Haven. Audrey Two hasn’t told him what she’s really doing there. Duke asks what is out there and Audrey Two tells him to ask her again when she comes back.
Nathan calls the station and confirms that Louis worked on a lot of the municipal equipment. As the radio cuts off, Nathan figures that Louis worked on the radio refits as well.
Audrey Two hikes inland and finds an old barn. She draws her gun and opens the door, and looks at something in surprise.
Nathan and Audrey go into Louis’ workshop and the door closes behind them. Th power tools activate and a lawnmower cuts off their escape route. They run for the back door but a nail gun activates, shooting at them. Two nails pierce a propane tank and an acetylene welder turns itself on. They run for the door using a piece of metal as a shield and get out just as the propane explodes. As they go, Audrey notices four nails in Nathan’s shoulder. He dismisses her concern and says they have to focus on finding Louis.
At home, Louis is working on a toaster when his microwave turns itself on, opens its door, and knocks his car keys into the garbage disposal. When Louis tries to pull them out, the garbage disposal turns itself on. He heads for the door and the other machines in the house come to life. A television plays an advertisement saying that the owner never has to leave home again.
After an hour goes by, Duke goes to find Audrey. She draws a gun on him but has no memory of who he is... or who she is.
Audrey and Nathan arrive at Louis’ house as he comes running out the door. He tells them what happened they realize he’s not controlling the machines. Louis insists that he loves Marcia and that Robbie was his friend. Robbie had a job for him in Alaska and Louis was considering it until Marcia invited him to Florida. They ask him what else he fixed.
At the ice rink, Marcia is cleaning up when a Zamboni machine turns on by itself and advances on her. Nathan, Audrey, and Louis arrive and find her pinned to the rink wall. Nathan wonders why it hasn’t killed Marcia and Audrey figures that it’s giving them a message. She shots the control panel and then tells Louis to make it happy by fixing it. Louis repairs the panel and the Zamboni machine backs away from Marcia. Nathan takes her away while Audrey tells Louis that he has to stay in Haven and let Marcia go to Florida.
Later, Duke brings Audrey Two to the station and tells Nathan and Audrey what happened. Audrey reminds her counterpart of everything they both have experienced, saying they’re as close as sisters. Audrey Two doesn’t remember any of it. Duke figures it’s like the day they saw the Colorado Kid, and none of them remember what happened. Audrey wonders what they can do and Duke has an idea of who to call.
That night, Ashley calls in Brad and claims that a boater found Audrey on an abandoned beach. Audrey Two remembers him and they hug. Brad prepares to take her home, but Audrey Two still doesn’t remember anything else. She thanks Audrey as she goes, even if she can’t remember her name.
The next morning, Evi confronts Duke and asks how it went with Audrey Two. He claims that he got his file and Evi reveals that she stole it for him. She figures that he’s lying and that there’s nothing in it except helping him. Duke tries to stop her but Evi walks away, insisting she made a mistake.
Nathan and Audrey go to the island and he tells her that she did the right thing with Audrey Two. Audrey regrets not helping her more, but Nathan assures her that she helps a lot of people. She figures that she has to stay in Haven to find out who she really is, and Nathan assures her that they’ll figure it out. They go to the coordinates but find nothing but a large rectangle of dead grass.
Duke sits alone at his restaurant and looks through his file, which contains a map of the island. The maze symbol is on the paper.
Marcia leaves a casserole outside of Louis’ shop, which is closed until further notice. Crying, she walks away.
Nathan sets up in his father’s office and opens the hot stove meeting box. He reluctantly picks up a letter and opens it.
At her new apartment, Audrey hangs up the wind chimes and plays the piano.
