Nathan and Audrey go to the Haven baseball field to attend the Little League game. Audrey is less than thrilled to attend. Reverend Driscoll shows up and briefly glares at Nathan, but then they cheer their respective teams.
Mayor Richard Brody and comes out with his wife Felicia to throw out the first pitch. Everyone in the audience cheers and applauds wildly and Nathan enthuses that he’s a great man. The field lights start to flicker as the players the field. As the first Sea Dog batter rounds the bases, he’s tagged and the umpire, Kunkel, declares him safe. The coach of the Cutters, Richard’s son Chris, storms out onto the field to protest the call. Mayor Brody accuses Kunkel of blowing the call. The crowd agrees, even the Sea Dogs fans. Only Audrey notices anything unusual about the situation.
The lights flicker on and off and spark loudly, and Audrey notices the hairs on her arms rising. Electricity sparks between the lights, covering the field, and everyone runs in terror. One player is frozen in fear and Audrey runs over to shove him out of the way just as the light falls down toward him. Flying debris hits Kunkel and the electricity strikes him repeatedly.
Afterward, the town custodian, Dwight, explains to Nathan and Audrey that the power surge grounded out. However, he admits that an electromagnetic pulse would have been necessary to generate so much electricity, and if that had happened then they’d all be dead. Nathan worries that Driscoll will take advantage of the situation to further condemn the Troubled. Dwight assures them that he’ll have everything cleaned up by lunch, and that he did the same thing for Nathan’s father. As he leaves, Audrey wonders if Kunkel was the Troubled person responsible and lost control.
At the hospital, Kunkel says that he had nothing to do with the incident. Mayor Brody comes in and explains that he was there raising funs for the pediatric ward. Both Kunkel and Nathan gush over the mayor, and Brody asks Nathan to talk to him privately. He wants Nathan to tell the reporters that it was a freak incident. Much to Audrey’s surprise, Nathan agrees to speak publicly. She points that out to Nathan, who is surprised to realize he did agree. Brody takes a call from his son and they argue briefly.
Outside, Audrey talks to the Teagues and wonders if someone could use electricity to change people’s thoughts. Brody comes out and the Teagues fawn over him like everyone else. Brody starts to speak on behalf of the pediatric wing and touches the microphone stand... and is shocked dead. Nathan confirms that he’s dead and Chris emerges from the crowd. Nathan calls him a great man and everyone except Audrey all go to comfort him.
Duke goes through the woods, following Audrey Two’s map to the X. he trips and falls, and Evi arrives to help him. She made a copy of the map and figures that Duke is following it to treasure. Evi doesn’t believe his claim that a tattooed man is stalking him. Duke explains that he was told how he would die and that he wants to find whatever is buried there so he can stay alive. Evi refuses to leave.
Nathan and Audrey go to the beach to find Chris. He explains that Brody remarried when Chris was a kid so the two have never got along. When they arrive, they discover that the townspeople have gathered to watch Chris as he works with some marine biology equipment. Chris insists that he didn’t electrocute his father to inherit his popularity. Audrey takes offense at his obnoxious attitude and Nathan orders her to stand down. When he touches a piece of Chris’ electricity, sparks fly. Chris explains that it’s a subaquatic inductor while Nathan gazes admiringly at him.
Audrey takes Chris back to the station and he explains that the inductor isn’t supposed to conduct electricity. She points out that he was at the scene of every electrical incident. Chris is more interested in why Audrey doesn’t like him and admits that he hates most people. When Audrey points out that his father liked the attention, Chris explains that the mayor was a politician and loved the adulation. Stan comes in to tell Audrey that Nathan wants her.
Duke digs at the spot and comes up with a wooden box. Inside it is a plank belonging to the Rasmussen House.
Nathan has discovered that Mayor Brody had purchased eight phones in the last two weeks and figures he had a network of mistresses. Stan wanders in and tells them that Chris went to his wake and one of the officers volunteered to give him a ride.
Duke takes Evi to the wake so they can talk to the Teagues and find out what they know about the Rasmussen House. He admits that they don’t like sharing secrets with him. Nathan and Audrey arrive and offer their condolences to Felicia, while Driscoll looks on. Once she leaves, Driscoll warns Nathan that the Troubles are growing and he’s in over his head. Duke plies David with Food while Evi approaches Vince and claims to be a grad student who was working with Brody on a thesis about Haven families.
Audrey goes into the mayor’ study and finds old scorch marks on the wall. As Driscoll begins the service, Audrey tells Nathan what she’s discovered. Chris comes in and offers Audrey a drink. She refuses and notices a static charge building. Chris reaches for a bottle and is shocked. When Felicia and Evi move, they’re shocked as well and Audrey tells everyone else to stand still.
At the hospital, Nathan and Audrey come to see Chris. Audrey suspects that Chris is the Troubled one and may have lost his powers. She goes to interrogate Chris, and Nathan points out that she’s interested in him. Audrey disagrees and walks off. Meanwhile, Duke come to see Evi and admits that he didn’t find anything from David. She tells Duke that she didn’t succeed with Vince and wonders if she’s getting too old for a life of conning. She admits that she hurt Duke but felt their time together was glamorous and came back to Haven to recapture some of that. Evi then has head pains and Duke runs for a nurse. As soon as he leaves, Evi gets out of bed, perfectly fine, gets dressed, and leaves.
Nathan talks to Felicia, who says she never saw the scorch marks and rarely went in there. She admits that she knew her husband was Troubled but they considered it a gift. When Nathan asks if she thought the mayor was faithful, Felicia explains that he strayed twenty years ago with his first wife... and Felicia was the other woman.
Audrey comes to see Chris and asks if his father milked the publicity. The nurse, Lori Fulcher, comes in and Audrey notices that Lori’s watch is broken. She suggests that Lori check Chris’ blood pressure, much to his surprise. Lori starts the machine and it goes out of control, cutting off Chris’ blood flow in his arm. The BP machine shorts out and Lori runs out in a panic. Audrey releases the cuff and runs after Lori, who bumps into Nathan. Lori creates an electrical field that knocks them back and escapes the hospital. The entire building’s power goes out and they realize that Lori’s condition is getting worse.
Dwight comes in and gets everything under control, and tells Nathan to keep the gas & power guys away. When Nathan wonders what’s going on, Dwight suggests that he avoid asking too many questions. Audrey identifies Lori and confirms that she lives alone. There was shorted-out equipment in her desk and the phones belonging to Brody, meaning she was the mayor’s mistress. The security cameras went down but Nathan spots a nearby patrol car and uses its mounted camera to confirm that Lori left in a van with... Felicia.
The next day, Evi breaks into the Foggy Grog, Haven’s wine shop. She goes to the cellar and finds Duke waiting to her. They realized that they cracked their Teagues and Duke congratulates her on the performance at the hospital. Evi says that she meant everything she said but Duke doesn’t believe her. He shows her around and spots a loose floorboard.
At the station, Audrey and Nathan try to figure why Felicia would be helping Lori. Nathan confirms that the van they were driving belonged to Driscoll.
Duke puts the board he found into the space where the loose floorboard is, and discovers that it forms an arrow pointing to the wall. He breaks down the all and finds a jewelry box inside. There’s nothing inside except words in Latin on the inside lid: “Love Conquers All.”
Nathan and Audrey go to the church but find no one there. Audrey has him check the report on the microphone, which reveals that the ground wire was tampered with. Their phones crash and Audrey feels a static buildup again, and realizes that Lori is nearby. She texts Chris to come with his equipment. When he arrives Nathan avoids looking at him. They spot the flash of electricity in the church basement and prepare to go in.
In the basement, Felicia tells Lori that she doesn’t want to help anyone else. Audrey, Chris, and Nathan come in and the lights start to glow. Lori admits that she killed Chris’ father, but Audrey tells her that she’s not a monster. Lori gives off another burst of electricity, knocking Felicia behind. Chris warns that if she gives off another burst she’ll destroy the church. He gets out his inductor but discovers that the last shock damaged it. Nathan goes to get some cables to ground her to the church’s lightning rod. Once he leaves, Audrey has Chris try to calm her down.
Chris talks to Lori, talking about he went sailing with him during the summer. Audrey gets Lori to explain about how she talked to the mayor about how they were both Troubled, it became something romantic, and Felicia walked in on them in the study. Nathan realizes that Felicia lied to them and Audrey accuses Felicia of sabotaging the microphone stand and arranging for Lori to take the blame. The widow had hoped that Lori would either believe she murdered the mayor and confess, or kill herself out of shame. Lori goes berserk and electricity flows through the church and up to the lightning rod.
Later, Driscoll arrives as Nathan and Dwight take care of the church. Driscoll tells them they have no business there but Nathan tells the reverend to let Dwight do the business. He then tells Driscoll that he’s connected to Felicia because the van belonged to the church and threatens to put him in jail if he learns Driscoll was involved.
As the EMTs take Lori away, Audrey talks to Chris, who realized that Audrey tricked him into coming so he’d calm Audrey down. She asks if he’ll be okay and Chris reminds her that she owes him a drink. Audrey agrees to meet him later.
The baseball game starts again and Audrey tries to get into the spirit of things. Chris tries to get his players to pay attention to the game instead of him. Nathan talks to Dwight, who says that it’s good to have Nathan on their side.
At the Grey Gull, Evi tells Duke that she’s sorry he didn’t get the answers he needed. She suggests that they both let things go and moves close to him. Duke says that sex between them now wouldn’t mean anything now and Evi tells him to try it. They kiss, unaware that the lamp has fallen next to the jewelry box, and the letters “Crocker” briefly glow on the lid.
