Audrey Parker's Day Off - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
At 7:34 in the morning, Chris kisses Audrey as she lies in bed and she pints out that it’s her day off and they were going to slip in. Chris says that he made surprise plans and Audrey says that she has one piece of official business and then she’s all his. As they leave, Duke is drawing a Taco Tuesday sign. When he spots Audrey, he yells at her to pay the rent but she keeps on driving so he doesn’t see Chris.

Audrey drives to the elementary school to give a Career Day speech. She notices a jogger jump over a low hedge, a couple in a SUV arguing, and a kid on a bicycle who is late and almost hits her. Inside, Audrey talks extensively about a raid on a drug cartel, but realizes that the subject might be inappropriate. She opens the floor to questions. When Chris snickers, Audrey introduces Chris and everyone stares admiringly at him. Afterward, Audrey gets a call about a downed tree but Chris tells her that it won’t kill her to take a day off and have a picnic. He says that he has a fundraiser in London but decided to stay in Haven because of her. As they kiss, Audrey gets another report and says that she has to take it.

At noon, Audrey meets Nathan at the scene of a hit-and-run. When she tries to see the scene, Nathan tells her that she doesn’t want to see it. He’s holding a baggie with a bloody green tennis shoe and holds Audrey back.

Audrey wakes up in bed at 7:34 as Chris kisses her. She realizes that the day is starting over just as it did before. Chris has no memory of the previous four and a half hours. As they leave, Audrey notices Duke drawing the Taco Tuesday sign. He confirms that it’s Tuesday and asks for the rent. As she pay sit, Duke sees Chris, becomes fascinated, and realizes that Chris and Audrey are an item. He asks them to stay for waffles but Audrey gets Chris away and they drive to the school. They see the jogger, the kid on the bike, and the arguing couple again.

In the classroom, Audrey skips directly to questions and answers the students’ questions before they can ask them. She introduces Chris to the class and then goes to tell Nathan what is happening. She tells him about the downed tree and the fact that someone will die at noon. Audrey is the only one who is experiencing it because of her immunity to the Troubles. The call about the downed tree comes in and Nathan accepts what Audrey is saying.

Audrey and Nathan go to the street where the hit-and-run occurred and split up to look for the victim. Duke spots Audrey and asks her to sign the check. Once Audrey does, Duke walks away as the church bells chime 10. Audrey notices a boy sitting on the curb but he isn’t wearing green tennis shoes. As Nathan calls and reports he hasn’t found anything, Audrey hears a crash and runs to the scene. This time Duke is the one who has been hit. Audrey realizes that she altered events by giving Duke the unsigned check. Nathan runs over and Duke tells him not to say anything and then dies. Audrey insists that things weren’t supposed to happen this way, and...

Audrey wakes up in bed at 7:34 as Chris kisses her. She realizes that the day is starting over again and tells Chris that she has to find Duke. She runs downstairs and hugs him, much to his surprise, and he realizes that Audrey and Chris are together. Duke invites them to stay for waffles and Audrey tells him to stay. She then goes to the school and calls Nathan there. She quickly proves she can predict everything that will happen and explains that someone died in a car crash. Nathan wonders if it’s the driver who is Troubled, and suggests that they set up checkpoints to stop the driver.

Nathan and Audrey check all of the students’ shoes for green tennis shoes without success. They then go to the area where the hit-and-run occurred. The car hits Nathan, knocking him into a construction block. He doesn’t realize anything is wrong at first until he sees a wooden spar in his stomach. As Audrey goes to him, she cuts her hand on the broken wood. As he dies, Nathan describes the driver and Audrey insists that she won’t let him die. He tells her that it doesn’t hurt and the only thing he feels is her and then dies.

-----

Audrey wakes up in bed at 7:34 as Chris kisses her. She realizes that the day is starting over again and notices that her hand is cut from the last loop. Audrey realizes that if she dies, she dies for good unlike everyone else and they’ll be stuck in the same day forever. As Audrey binds her wound, Chris asks what is happening and Audrey tells him that she knows all about his plans but he doesn’t have time. She then takes Chris down to keep Duke busy with waffles while she goes to tell Nathan what is happening. He assures her that she won’t die and they have the school search for students with green shoes. Nathan has his men stop any driver in a beige sedan, and Audrey insists that he stay at the station because she can’t bear to lose him again.

Audrey goes downtown and has everyone stay off the streets. The officers haven’t seen any beige sedans and Audrey calls to thank Nathan for staying away.

At the Grey Gull, Duke is listening to a Red Sox game where the team wins with a comeback. Audrey calls him and hears the game in the background, and Duke admits that Chris left on his own. As Audrey tries to call Chris, she hears his phone ring as he comes up behind her. She tells him to leave and promises to explain later. Chris agrees, but walks away, angry that the day didn’t go as planned. The church bells ring and Audrey sees a man standing on the curb across the street, frozen. Two minutes after the bells chime, Audrey thinks that it’s safe and offers to help the man across. Once they’re across, Audrey calls Nathan but a blue sedan drives toward her. Chris rushes out and pushes her out of the way, but is hit instead. The man who couldn’t cross the street apologizes for causing the incident, and Audrey realizes that he was the man arguing at the school.

-----

Audrey wakes up in bed at 7:34 as Chris kisses her. She realizes that the day is starting over again and hugs Chris in relief. She tells Chris to stay there and keep Duke there as well, and says that she has to end the day once and for all. She goes to the school and approaches the man, Anson Shumway, who is alone in the SUV. He thinks that his ex-wife Berta sent the police because he couldn’t bring himself to pick up his daughter Jeanie on her birthday. He starts counting the button on his shirt and explains that he’s been diagnosed with OCD. Berta drives up and blames Angus for forgetting his daughter. She tells Audrey that Angus is sick and that Jeanie is realizing that her father is different. Berta confirms that Jeanie doesn’t own green tennis shoes. Angus drives away before Audrey can stop him

At the station, Audrey explains things to Nathan again and they try to locate Angus without success. She believes that Angus isn’t responsible for the accidents but his OCD makes him feel responsible so he resets everything with his Troubled ability. Audrey worries what will happen if she fails and Nathan assures her that it won’t happen. Officer Glen comes in to report that they’ve traced Angus’ credit card to a sporting good store. Audrey realizes that he bought the green tennis shoes so he could surprise his daughter. Jeanie saw him but he couldn’t cross the street so she came to him and was hit.

School has already let out and there’s no sign of Jeanie or Berta. Audrey finds Anson on the street and asks him to get into her car. When he can’t cross on his own, Audrey leads him across, and him in the car, and explains what is happening to him. Anson explains that he feels responsible for everything, all the time, and it’s torture for him. Audrey tells him to stay in the car and tell her where she can find Audrey. Anson tells her that Jeanie is at the ice cream store with Berta, and asks how he can believe her. Audrey tells him about the Red Sox comeback and he tunes it in on the radio. Satisfied, Anson gives her the sneakers and Audrey promises to call him.

Audrey goes to the ice cream store and gives Jeanie the present, and then calls Anson’s phone. Anson is pushing the radio dial in and out and tries to control his OCD, and finally manages to pick up the phone. Jeanie thanks him for the present and Anson explains that he hasn’t been feeling well. He apologizes and Jeanie says that she understands. Anson tells her that he’ll do whatever he can to keep her safe and that she is free to do whatever she wants. He then says that he knows what he has to do to save everyone. Audrey realizes what he means and runs back to her car. She’s too late to stop Anson from stepping out in front of the beige sedan and being hit. Audrey begs him to reset one last time, but nothing happens except that Anson dies.

Later, Nathan tells Audrey that the driver was an elderly man who got confused. The one time he drew a blue car, it was his wife’s. Audrey blames herself for not saving Anson, but Nathan assures her that Anson made his choice and saved the town. Audrey doesn’t accept that and says that she failed, and Nathan tells her that she can never fail him. Chris comes out and expresses his condolences. When he points out she’ll get another day off, Audrey says she never gets days off. She tells Chris that he should go to London to raise the grant money for his work, and that he can’t give it up for her. However, Audrey assures him that she’ll see him when he gets back. Chris kisses her and goes back into the bar with Duke and Nathan, and Audrey watches them... alone on the porch.
