I Say a Little Prayer - Recap

The scene opens with the “Hellcats” at Qualifiers. Coach Lodge gets them motivated to cheer and tells them that the University has given them an ultimatum. That is to either win Nationals, or they are going to gut their program. Marti is still sinking everything in and sees another cheer squad. Coach Lodge tells that it is Memphis Christian and that they are the squad to beat. Savannah walks up to Charlotte and wishes her luck. Charlotte tells that they are going to bury them and Savannah walks up to Coach Lodge and Marti and says that Charlotte wishes them luck. Dan knocks on the window and Marti runs out to see him. He tells that he has missed her around. They hear a page for Marti and they go back inside.

Wanda is trying to get backstage to see Marti and the security officer tells that they paged her several times already and that she will have to wait. Marti comes up and sees her mom. She is devastated and asks who told her about Qualifiers. Wanda tells that Alice did and that she is excited. She tells that Wanda cannot be there and Wanda asks why Dan is there. Dan thinks fast and puts his arm around Savannah and tells that he is dating her. Marti and Wanda walk off and Alice smiles. Savannah asks why he told Wanda that they were dating and he said that he had to and that it was a joke. She tells that she doesn’t get those types of jokes. She asks how much trouble they are in and Dan tells that every time her mother is there, Marti freaks. But, if Savannah gets rid of Wanda, then Marti will deliver. Savannah tells that

Memphis Christian Cyclones compete and they are really good. Backstage, Lewis asks Alice if she did this on purpose. She tells that if Marti is easy to raddle, then she doesn’t deserve the position on the squad. Lewis tells that she is not just hurting Marti, everyone’s scholarships are on the line and that Alice’s daddy will just pay her way, but it is not as easy for him. She gets upset that he is playing the “spoiled rich girl” card and tells that she was in line for Captain until Savannah transferred and everyone is falling for Marti. Lewis tells that he doesn’t do that and Alice reminds him that he fell for her once. At the end, of the routine, Charlotte gets cocky and throws her arms up too hard and looses her balance and falls. Savannah rushes to her side. They rush Charlotte to the hospital and Coach Lodge tells that she will talk to the judges and tells Savannah to go with her sister. Marti is shocked that they are sisters and Coach Lodge tells that Marti is not the only one with a messed up family.

At the hospital, they wait for the doctor and Derrick comes up and says that Charlotte is going to be fine but that the neurologist wants to keep her for observation. Coach Lodge tells that Marti is going to have to clear her head and be the girl she was at tryouts for Saturday. Coach Lodge was able to move their time for Qualifiers to Saturday. Derrick tells that Savannah can see her sister now. Coach Lodge thanks Derrick with a kiss and Marti smiles. Coach Lodge tells Marti to go get her head on strait. Savannah walks into the room and sees her mom and Charlotte. Her mother leaves and glares at Savannah meanly. Savannah talks with Charlotte and tells that she misses her family. Charlotte tells that all of what happened to her isn’t about Savannah. She laughs and Savannah goes out and tells that Charlotte is fine and just needs to rest.

The next morning, Marti wakes up early and gets ready for a day of school and gets dressed, grabs a quick breakfast, and then runs out the door. She rides her bike to get her book and then goes to cheer practice and then runs off to her Jurisprudence class and walks in to find that the class is in session and her clothes are falling off her. She adjusts herself and gets to work. Later at the harbor, she meets with Dan and tells that her mom means well but it just works out that way. Dan tells that it takes two to tango and that maybe Marti just needs to sit back and allow her mother into her life. Marti leaves and goes back to Cheertown and tells that she is glad the day is over and then she tells that she still has 4 hours of reading and a paper due. Savannah tells that they have a guest. Marti turns around to see that her mother is there and she has brought ribs. She asks what she is doing there and Wanda tells that all is forgiven and she wanted to make them dinner.

During dinner, Wanda is fitting in and Marti tells Savannah to give it time. Wanda asks about the relationships and one of the cheerleaders tells that Alice and Lewis take the cake on promiscuous activities. Wanda tells that they need to keep at it. Meanwhile, Coach Lodge and Derrick are at a restaurant and she tells that she needed this. The new Coach Raymond walks in and Derrick introduces himself. He tells that he is the Hellcats doctor and that he is a big fan of him. Coach Lodge walks up and “introduces” herself and says that they are going to be seeing a lot of each other because she is the head coach of the Hellcats. Derrick tells that Coach Raymond and Lodge have a history because Coach Lodge was a Hellcat when Raymond was coach. Coach Raymond offers Coach Lodge a spot with the guys to get to know each other. Back at Cheertown things are getting out of hand with the alcohol and Wanda tells that she can handle her liquor. They start arguing and Savannah and Lewis change the subject. The party is over and Marti tells that she will walk her mother out.

Outside, Marti tells Wanda to go home and Wanda admits that she doesn’t have a home to go to and says that it is because the landlord’s car was damaged when she threw a can of paint on it. Marti tells that she can stay there tonight and then will have to fix the landlord’s car. Wanda agrees to the conditions. At the hospital, Savannah’s mother comes up to her and says that they are going to have a prayer for her sister on Saturday at 10:00. Savannah tells that it is the same time as Qualifiers. Her mother tells that she has to go to the one thing that is more important. At practice, Marti is not concentrating on the moves and tells that her mother is going to get murdered if she doesn’t help. Marti rides over to a credit card company and fills out the form. She meets with her mother and the landlord and throws the law into his face. She gives money to him to repair his car and he agrees to paint the walls Sage. Wanda thanks Marti and she tells that she can pay her back. Wanda tells that Alice told that the Hellcats get another chance on Saturday. Marti lies and says that they aren’t able to. Wanda asks about Marti’s scholarship and she tells that she will figure something out.

Marti goes back home and finds Savannah talking to her mom on the phone. They lie to each other of having mom problems and then start telling that they lied to their moms. Savannah tells that her mom is upset that she is going to Lancer and not Memphis Christian. She tells that Memphis Christian is the family school and that Lancer is a secular school. Marti tells that she just wants to shut out her mom. Savannah tells that is not a good idea because she was shut out and it hurts. They lie down and Marti asks if she is going to do something about the way she feels and Savannah asks if she is. The next morning the Hellcats get ready for Qualifiers and Marti is practicing her routine. They walk down the hall to Qualifiers. Savannah tells Coach Lodge that she has to do something really quick. She goes out on the balcony and prays for her family’s safety.

Back inside, Coach Lodge helps Marti and Coach Raymond comes in with his team and they are cheering them on. The team sits down and Marti’s mother is in the seat as well. Marti sees her and starts to freak she tells that she is going to have to leave. Wanda wonders why and she tells that she knows why. Wanda starts to get up and Marti stops her. She tells that she needs to stay. Wanda tells that she is her biggest fan and will cheer her on. She walks back to Savannah and she asks if she is going to be alright. Marti tells that she will. The Hellcats start and everything goes smoothly and Marti lands every move. At the after party, Wanda has opened the expensive bottle of wine and they celebrate their win. Dan sees Savannah all alone and asks her on a date. She says yes and writes her number on his arm. They all start dancing and they have fun after making it to the next stop to winning Nationals.
