The Prisoner's Song - Recap

The scene opens with Marti getting out of bed and she falls onto Dan. She lays down the rules and conditions if he is going to be staying over. Savannah agrees and says that she doesn’t want Marti to feel weird. Marti introduces Morgan Lewis and Lewis doesn’t seem impressed at all. Marti tells that she and Morgan are going to visit a prison as part of a law project in class. Dan goes out to the kitchen and prepares a “real Irish breakfast” and tells that they could spice up their video a little bit and proceeds to tell her how to do it by pumping some flash in the routine. Savannah tells Dan to watch them practice and says that any help on their moves would be appreciated. They are sweet on each other and he agrees. Meanwhile, Coach Lodge and her finance Derrick are having a nice outing when Coach Raymond comes up. Derrick invites him for breakfast and he accepts. Derrick tells Coach Raymond that Coach Lodge has been feeling uncomfortable around Coach Raymond and he admits that his original plan was to win Coach Lodge back. Derrick punches him in the face and as Derrick goes outside, Coach Lodge tells that Derrick did a stupid thing and that there are going to be bad things that come out of it.

Marti and Morgan go to the prison and Morgan is very nervous. He tells that he is not at all fond of prisons and Marti tells him to relax a little. Morgan and Marti listen to Travis Guthrey’s case, the inmate incarcerated, and he tells that he wants to get it over with and not have to deal with Julian’s students anymore. He makes a music reference and Morgan doesn’t get it, but Marti does. Travis is impressed that Marti knows a lot about music. Marti tells him that she can cut some time off the sentence that he is serving, and Travis tells that he got “screwed” by the justice system already and he walks out of the room. Arriving a bit late for practice, Marti sneaks in. Savannah lifts up the camera and Alice demands to know what she is doing. They yell at each other because of the fact that Dan is telling them how to do their video and what not to do. Alice tells Dan that he needs to get out and Savannah gets into an argument over the fact and Alice requests the team to vote. Everyone is in favor with Alice and Savannah tells that she is Captain and that she can overrule everyone. She tells that Dan’s ideas for the cheer video stay. Alice goes to Coach Lodge to complain. Marti talks to Dan and tells that the “Hellcats” are similar to the Beatles and he is the Yoko of the group. She tells that he is not going to ruin the team.

Coach Lodge runs after Coach Raymond and tells that Derrick didn’t mean to punch him. Coach Raymond asks her what type of man she wants to be with and promises that he is not going to attack Derrick’s career in Sports Medicine. Alice and Savannah are taken into Coach Lodge’s office and Savannah tells Alice that everyone hates her. They get into it again and Coach Lodge tells them that he need to knock it of and tells Alice that Savannah is Captain and that she needs to follow her leadership. She tells Savannah that the team doesn’t trust her and that she needs to work on getting it back before it is too late. Bill calls Derrick and tells that he needs to be in his office now. Derrick talks to Coach Raymond and Bill and apologizes to Coach Raymond. Turns out, Bill is only joking with Derrick and he is promoted as a way of forgiveness from Coach Raymond who lobbied for Derek. He tells that he wants to thank him for the position. Later that evening at dinner, Coach Lodge tells that Coach Raymond may have other motives attached to the promotion and the two argue and Derrick leaves. The next day, Marti walks up to Julian and gives Julian some forms that Travis signed. She tells that Travis believes that he is innocent. Julian says that it’s hard to overturn a conviction, but Marti is determined not to give up and pleads her case but Julian doesn’t listen. Marti doesn’t listen either.

Coach Lodge walks up to Coach Raymond that she is sick and tired of his stupid games. Coach Raymond tells that him getting pushed out of town was the best thing at first, but then he realized that he wants her. He tells that he’ll be there when she decides what she really wants out of a man. The bid video to get the free ride to Nationals is ready and Dan asks Savannah if all the cheerleaders are alright with the fact that things are changed up. Savannah tells that they will be after the bid video is done. However, during the routine, things go wrong and it is not as polished as they had wanted it to be. Marti calls Dan “Yoko” and he is upset with her. Derrick and Coach Lodge have a conversation about the promotion that Derrick was offered and she is upset when she finds out that Derrick accepted the promotion already. She tells that she thought they were going to wait it out. Savannah and Dan are editing the video and Lewis comes in and tells that everyone is being rallied by Alice who is calling for a “no confidence vote” that will possibly kick Savannah off her spot as Captain.

Alice tells everyone that she is a better cheerleader than Savannah and that she will be a better Captain. Savanna tells that she is a bad leader and that she made a mistake. Alice tells of her idea about them buying a plane ticket and to and Savannah agrees and says that they can still save the bid video if they work hard. The team run around and sets up everything so that they shoot a brand new bid video. The video is shot and it is all good for what they want. They get it ready to go and in the car, Savannah talks with Alice and tells that she is sorry for everything, but Alice doesn’t want to accept her apology. Alice calls that she submitted the bid video with 10 minutes to spare. Dan and Marti patch up their friendship. He tells that he will be careful with things and Marti believes him. Marti tells Dan that she has missed having Dan all by herself. Later, she goes back to the prison and takes her guitar for Travis so that he can tell his story to her. She tells that Travis did not get a fair trial and he tells that she will help him no matter what Julian says. The episode closes with Marti and Travis singing and back in Cheertown, the vote is taking place to replace Savannah. However, despite what Alice wants, Savannah is voted to stay as Captain of the squad and Alice is upset but shakes her hand anyways.
