Don't Make Promises - Recap

The scene opens with the Hellcats practicing their routines for Nationals. They finish up and Marti tells that the song that they are dancing to is alright. Alice defends it and says that it is an original song from a local band named “Werewolf vs. Unicorn”. Savannah says that two cheerleading squads were disqualified because they used the same Lil Kim song. Dan walks in and both Marti and Savannah think it is for them, but he gestures to Savannah. He tells Savannah that he got accepted to Lancer and now he has to get accepted into Film Class. He says that he is going to have to make a film and write a bunch of essays. He says that if things don’t work out then he can join the Hellcats as a base, but then says that he is only joking with her. Marti walks into Wanda’s place and sees Travis playing the guitar and singing an unknown song. Travis says that it was written by her dad. Marti is shocked that Wanda never told her that her father wrote music. Travis says that he isn’t getting in the middle of it and says that she needs to talk to her mom if she wants to know.

Savannah and Alice are driving and Savannah pulls into her house for a quick moment. She says that Dan is studying for Film Class and Savannah says that she has books that he can use. Charlotte shows Savannah the Ultrasound. Alice hears music and asks if they are having a party. Charlotte says that they got into Nationals. Alice asks how that is possible since they got eliminated in Sectionals. Charlottes says that one of the squads was disqualified for taking drugs. Alice hears the same song that the Hellcats are doing for their cheer routine. Alice goes downstairs and talks to “Nasty Kathy” about the song choice and Charlotte says that they have to change the song because they will both be disqualified. Alice says that they have an agreement from the band and “Nasty Kathy” says that they do to. Alice says that they have sloppy footwork and reminds them about Charlotte’s fall during Qualifiers. Savannah says that the Cyclones are already down a flier and “Nasty Kathy” snaps and says that it is because Charlotte got pregnant from Savannah’s ex-boyfriend Noah. Alice says that they need to leave them alone. Charlotte says that it was an accident and apologizes for it. Charlotte says that she has always liked Noah. They fell in love and they are getting married.

At the bar, Vanessa Lodge and Red Raymond talk about the fact that the Cyclones and the Hellcats have the same song and Alice is going to the band to straighten everything out by showing a little cleavage. Red says that has always worked for him. Wanda gives them more drinks and apologizes to hear about Vanessa and Derek. Wanda says that there might be a different wedding for Vanessa coming soon and winks at Red. Wanda says that she put some water in the whiskey just in case he has to “suit up” for the “big game” later. Vanessa tells Red that they are never coming to the bar again and Red blows it off as Wanda being herself. He says that she is right though. Red reaches for Vanessa’s hand and she pulls it away. Red tells a story about how they all carry around their own shell with them. He reaches for it again and Vanessa says that she has to go home. Wanda gets home later and Marti talks about her dad and Wanda tries to drop the subject, but Marti presses. Wanda says that talking to Travis is non-judgmental. Wanda says Rex, her father, was a bad man. Wanda tells Marti that she is going out to a movie after Marti yells at her.

Alice and Lewis go to the bar where Werewolf and Unicorn are playing at and Alice says that she has to go to the bathroom. Lewis sees “Nasty Kathy”, but doesn’t know who she is. He starts to flirt with her and she finds out that Lewis is on the Hellcats. Alice sneaks up and says hello to “Nasty Kathy”. Alice asks what Lewis is doing and Lewis says that he doesn’t have any enemies and is a lover of humanity. Alice goes up to Simon, the guitarist and says that he offered them to dance to their song. However, the lead singer gave “Nasty Kathy” permission too. They say that they are going to have to put on a show to see who gets their song. Alice says that only gives them only 2 hours to get them together. “Nasty Kathy” says that her squad is all at a Youth Meeting. Simon says that underwear is optional. Meanwhile, Savannah is at a bar and is meeting with Noah. She ignores Alice’s call. Noah says that he is not proud of what he did and Savannah asks if he loves Charlotte. Noah says that he loves Savannah and Savannah tells him to stop. He says that it doesn’t have to and Savannah tells him that he is acting like a child. He says that she needs to tell him to marry Charlotte and he will. Savannah says that it is his responsibility.

Marti is hanging out with Dan talking about the project and they are going to do Suspense/Horror and Marti says that she wants to see her intestines. Alice tries to call and Marti ignores it. Dan talks about Marti’s dad’s music and he tells her that when she wants something, she always goes for it. He asks her why she didn’t push harder. She tells about when she was 8 years old asking about it. Her mom got drunk and started calling herself a bad mom. Marti says that it hurts that Wanda has known Travis for only a moment and she spills her thoughts to him. Savannah texts Dan and Dan says that Savannah is looking for Marti. Dan, Savannah and Marti arrive at the place where the band is rehearsing and everyone gets prepared. They do their routines and the band is unimpressed. The lead singer is asleep. He is woken up and he picks the Hellcats because they have their bellies showing. Lewis calls them rude and he tells them to take their song. Cyclones tell them that they are not taking it either. The lead singer spits on their mat and Lewis tells him to clean it up. He walks away and calls Alice a nasty name and she tells him that she is proud of it. Lewis says that he is impressed with “Nasty Kathy” and she gives him her number. Alice sees the entire thing and is not happy.

Marti and Dan walk into the dorm to find Charlotte and Savannah fighting. Noah and her had a fight and Savannah put her wedding in jeopardy. Savannah says that Noah didn’t love her and that she was making a big mistake. Charlotte walks away. Vanessa and Red meet in her office and Red sits down and apologizes about yesterday. She says that she is not worried about people gossiping and that she is worried about feeling the shame. She asks Red what would have happened and Red tells that he would have never stayed with his wife Emily because there was no “cosmic pull” and Vanessa admits that Derek was nice, but there was no “cosmic pull” either. They kiss and then start to take off their clothes. Alice walks up to the office and calls out her name. The blinds close and she tells that her music is approved and to come back in an hour. After practice, Savannah walks out to find her mom there. She says that Charlotte broke off the engagement and her mom thanks Savannah for doing something that she couldn’t do. She says that Charlotte is going to be living with them. Savannah thought that her mother was going to be mad. Her mom thanks Savannah for being there for them.

Later that night, Wanda and Travis get back to find Marti going through boxes and she finds a suitcase. She asks if it was her father’s and Wanda tells her that it is. Marti takes it back to her dorm and finds a sign that asks people for money and a hat. She puts on the hat and picks up her guitar. She starts to play the song that Travis was playing and the episode ends.
