Before I Was Caught - Recap

The scene opens with the “Hellcats” training for an event and the new Sports Director, Dean Laverne, is watching them practice. Dan and Marti watch from the sidelines talking about how the new Dean Laverne is biting his lip. Afterward, he tells that they have “tasty” moves and it is going to be great for the Gala. He tells that their image is hurt right now because of Jake going to prison and that they need to advance and make their image good again. Dean Laverne talks to Vanessa and asks if there is anything going on with her and Red Raymond. She tells that they are just friends. Dean Laverne asks how Red’s divorce went with Emily Townsend. She tells that it went alright and asks why he is asking these questions and he tells that it is nothing and comments on the tea that she gives him to ignore the question.

Marti and Dan see Lewis and Savannah arguing and Marti asks what is going on. Savannah tells that Lewis is about to take the punishment for cheating. Marti runs off with Lewis and Lewis says that Betsy made a deal with the Dean and gave him a list of every student that bought a paper from her. Lewis tells that he wants to take the punishment and move on. He says that his GPA can take it. Marti hears that Laurence Puddim is his council and tells that he is not qualified and says that she will represent Lewis. However, Lewis tells that he is just going to take the punishment and move on. Marti rides up to Julian Parrish’s law firm and is impressed with the new office. She asks to be put on the council for Lewis and Julian tells that takes time to get in. She tells him that Lewis is her friend and he says that she is in. Marti hugs Julian and he tells that there are others in the room. She doesn’t care.

Marti gets back and asks Darwin where Lewis is. Alice tells that she knows where he is, but tells that she wants to help get Lewis cleared because it was her who got him in the mess to begin with. Marti agrees and Alice tells that he is getting himself beat up. They go to find Lewis sparing with another person and they are boxing. Marti tells that there are holes in his story and that Lewis never turned in the paper that he bought because he wasn’t even taking Evolution. He tells that he doesn’t want to be plea his case and he wants to just take the suspension or failing grade. Meanwhile, Red goes into Dean Laverne’s office and asks why he has been prying into his personal life and calls Dean Laverne feminine because he has flowers in his office. Dean Laverne tells that there is an attorney that is looking into the Lancer staff and he wanted to get to know Red to see if there was going to be a problem. He shows that the lawyer is Red’s ex-wife and Dean Laverne says that he doesn’t like Red and doesn’t care if she burns him. He tells him to get out of his office and remember to knock next time.

Marti finds Julian at The Rat and sits down and tells him that Lewis doesn’t want to plead his case. He tells her that she needs to allow him to make that choice and that it is not hers to make. However, Marti says that is not good enough. Julian asks if Lewis is protecting someone. She wonders who it could be. Later at the Gala, the Hellcats dance and afterward, Marti and Alice see Savannah and Lewis arguing again and Marti says that Julian told her that Lewis could be protecting someone. Alice believes it is Savannah and calls her a liar. Savannah cries and Dan suggests that they take the meeting somewhere else. Savannah confesses that it was her who wanted the paper on Evolution and that Lewis got it for her to use as a guideline, but she copied most of it. Lewis tells that if Savannah takes the punishment, it could result in suspension and they lose their best flier and Captain. Alice is insulted that Lewis called Savannah their “best” flier. Marti tells that no one is going to rat her out and makes sure that is true for Alice too. Savannah tells that she wants to tell the truth and have Marti represent her.

Red goes up to Vanessa and tells that they have a problem. Vanessa sees Emily enter and Red tells that is the problem. Meanwhile, Marti asks why Dan didn’t tell her that Savannah was the one who cheated and Dan tells that Savannah swore him to secrecy. Marti says that she is Dan’s best friend and Dan tells her that Savannah is his girlfriend and things need to be different between him and Marti. She agrees despite what she really feels. Emily comes up to them and asks them how they are. She tells that they are going to nationals. She asks if they are together and they tell that they are not together. She tells that the report says different and tells that she has had a private investigator follow the faculty around. They get nervous and Emily tells that was 10 years ago and it is water under the bridge. Vanessa says that they are together since Emily doesn’t care. However, it is clear that she does.

Later at Honor court, Savannah pleads guilty to the charges and Marti asks to say a few words. She tells that Savannah has lead her life being an upbeat person with “Only positive outcomes only”. She tells the judges that she looks up to Savannah and says that if it wasn’t for her, she wouldn’t be studying to be a lawyer. Lewis is feeling bad still and Alice comes up to him and flirts with him to lift his spirits. Lewis got academic probation and that is it. She tells that everything is going to work out. The judges get back and Lewis tells that he is going to sit next to Marti and smiles back at Alice. The judge tells that Savannah is only going to get a failing grade in the class and that is it. The other teammates celebrate and tell each other to go out for drinks. Marti sees that everyone has someone to love besides her and gets sad. She walks out. She walks up to Julian’s office and tells that they won the case. She says thank you for believing in her and he tells that he hopes that he has taught her to go for what she wants. Marti goes up to Julian and kisses his cheek. They look at each other and kiss each other. Marti tells that she better go and Julian tells that is the best choice to make. The episode ends.
