Mr. Bennet / H.R.G. [episode 11+, recurring previously], played by Jack Coleman
The mysterious Mr. Bennet, also called "the man in the horn-rimmed glasses," is on the surface a loving father and family man who works for a paper company, Primatech. However, being protective of his family is about the only thing about Mr. Bennet that is the truth.
Mr. Bennet actually once worked for an organization that captures, studies, and tracks people with special "gifts"---people like his adopted daughter, Claire. Bennet actually gained Claire through his work, under the condition that she be brought in to the company when her abilities manifested. Fifteen years later, he realized that he was too emotionally attached to Claire, seeing her as his daughter and not a a subject, and decided to protect her from the company at all costs--going so far as to remove her name form Chandra Suresh's list, keep anyone from remembering anything about her abilities with the help of the Haitian, and to even send Claire into hiding when the company became aware of Claire's ability after the incident involving Ted Sprague. Once the company realized that Bennet was hiding Claire, his employment with them ceased and he became a fugitive from the organization.
Determined to keep Claire safe, Bennet escapes the company and heads to New York, hoping to terminate a "tracking system" that can find anyone by thinking about them---not realizing that the "system" is a seven-year old girl. He also runs into Peter Petrelli, the man responsible for saving Claire from the murderous Sylar and learning later that he is also Claire's biological uncle; a fact that was never revealed to him by the organization. That night, as Peter realizes that he himself will be the one to explode, Bennet tells him that he will kill him in order to stop him from hurting anyone. When Peter thanks him, he tells him to "call me Noah"...marking the first utterance of Bennet's first name. |

Ando Masahashi [Season 2+ (Recurring previously)], played by James Kyson Lee
Ando, Hiro's English speaking best friend, is reluctant at first to believe Hiro's claim that he has superpowers---he tends to see Hiro as a bit of a dreamer. After seeing proof of Hiro's abilities, Ando agrees (albeit reluctantly) to join Hiro on his trip to New York City.
Once on the "quest," Ando proves to be both a help and a hindrance as he can make some pretty bad choices (helping Hope and trying to cheat at cards, among others) but give some good advice. Ando is also more fluent in English than Hiro, which means that for the first part of their adventure Ando does more of the talking to the people they meet. It is Ando who teaches Hiro about bravery as well as what it takes to become a "hero." Though Hiro teleports him back to their office building in Japan to escape being murdered by Sylar, he gives Ando his Kensei katana as proof that he will return. |

|
Claire Bennet, played by Hayden Panettiere
First Appearance: Episode 1 - Genesis
Powers: Healing
Description: A 16 year-old cheerleader, who has the ability to heal herself instantly when injured (those injuries would include, burns, having her hand shredded in a garbage disposal, and broken bones). Her friend Zach even videotapes her climbing up 80 feet, then falling to the ground, only to reveal that she is unharmed.
Claire's ability makes her feel more alone and "freakish" than the average sixteen-year old, but a chance encounter with two mysterious strangers on the night of her Homecoming shows her there are more people in the world like her...and that not all of them are decent. Claire meets Peter Petrelli, a former hospice nurse form New York, in a school hallway just before she encounters the murderous Sylar in the locker room. When Sylar kills the wrong girl, Claire manages to make a run for it and, with Peter's help, is able to escape being murdered herself. Later that night, she confesses to her father that her survival was no accident...and he in turn confesses that he "has done things" that he isn't proud of in order to keep Claire from the likes of Sylar. Claire manages to chat briefly with Peter after being questioned about the events of Homecoming, telling him that he is "totally her hero" and that knowing about him makes her feel less "freakish" and lonely. The next day, Claire discovers that her father has had The Haitian wipe the memories of anyone who knew anything about her abilities, and that he would have done the same to her--unless she keeps everything a secret.
Claire troubles worsen when she finds out that her mother has been subjected to The Haitian's methods many, many times---enough to make her collapse. Furious at her father's actions, she reveals that she knows about his tactics. Claire also begins the search again for her biological parents, learning that her birth mother lives in a nearby town. After visiting her, she learns that abilities like her's aren't so "un-normal" after all. As she helps to bring her mother home from the hospital, her family is taken hostage by Matt Parkman and Ted Sprague, tow men who are very desperate and seeking answers from Claire's father. When Ted falls into an uncontrollable rage, his ability manifests beyond control and it takes Claire to calm him enough to only set the house on fire. When her father's superiors discover that Claire's abilities have manifested, he pretends to "bring her in," only to stage an attack and send her into hiding.
Travelling with The Haitian, Claire wonders about her family's fate, and what will happen to her. When she learns that she's to assume a false name and leave the country, she protests, stating she'll be leaving everyone and thing she knows...until she hits upon the idea of going to Peter Petrelli for help. She manages to slip past The Haitian and makes her way to Peter's apartment, only to find his mother there, waiting for her. Claire then learns that Peter is actually her uncle, and that his older brother Nathan is her biological father.
As the events leading to the explosion unfold, Claire learns that Mrs. Petrelli has planned for the explosion all along, and that she's set up Nathan to "lead the people" while resigning Peter to suffer the guilt of causing the death of millions and surviving. Claire escapes Nathan and Mrs. Petrelli and goes in search of Peter, whom she promised she would shoot in the case of his explosion. She also reunites with her father, Mr. Bennet, and they decide to try to reunite the rest of the family after the explosion takes place.
We also later learn that Claire's biological father is Nathan Petrelli. |

Prison inmate who wakes up... outside his prison cell. |

| |
|
Hiro Nakamura, played by Masi Oka
Hiro, a Japanese office worker, discovers that he is able to bend both time and space. With this power, Hiro is able to instantaneously teleport anywhere in the world.
A believer in his newfound abilities, he recruits his English speaking friend Ando to join him on a journey to New York City, where he must meet up with Issac Mendez in order to prevent Issac's murder and save Manhattan from a nuclear explosion. |
| |
| |
|
Isaac Mendez, played by Santiago Cabrera
Issac is a brilliant artist whose recent works have been stunning...in more ways than one.
It seems that Issac, when he is high, has the ability to predict the future, and channels these images into his paintings. It also seems that his apartment is the designated "gathering place" for the other "heroes," and on his floor is a massive painting of what they must ultimately prevent---the nuclear destruction of New York City.
Issac's drawings and paintings are instrumental to the missions of the other characters: his paintings of Claire lead Peter to go to Odessa, Texas to save her; Hiro Nakamura and his friend And Masahashi use Issac's comic 9th Wonders! as a sort of "road map" on their quest; and Linderman snaps up Issac's paintings as fast as he makes them available. Mr. Bennet, Nathan Petrelli, and even Simone Deveaux have also found the paintings to become useful.
After accidentally shooting Simone to death (he had been aiming at an invisible Peter), Issac resigns himself to his fate--being murdered by the serial killer Sylar. After being crucified with his own paintbrushes to his floor, Issac dies--but not before he relays through his comics and paintings the events which will save his beloved New York City. |

Micah Sanders, played by Noah Gray-Cabey

Due to Niki's involvement with the mob and her occupation, Micah worries dearly for his mother and hates being away from her. After being reunited with his father, D.L., he confesses his mother's split personality disorder that has "changed" his mom for the worse.
Micah's gift of techopathy is one that is coveted by Linderman, who uses a clever ruse to kidnap Micah to New York City. Though he sees quickly through Candace's illusion, he does as he is told--he "fixes" the election in favor of Nathan Petrelli, making him win by a landslide. After he is rescued by his mother, he gets a broken elevator to work, helping his family (along with Molly Walker and Mohinder Suresh) escape. He is witness to the explosion of Peter Petrelli, miles above the stratosphere from the plaza in New York City. |

Mohinder Suresh, played by Sendhil Ramamurthy
Mohinder is a respected genetics professor in his native India, but is called to New York City upon the death of his father.
Like his father, Mohinder believes that humans are slowly moving into a new level of evolution, but unlike his father, he does not believe that there are people who display these "super" traits on earth quite yet. With the help of a neighbor, Eden, Mohinder is slowly piecing together the puzzle of both his father's greatest theory and the circumstances of his murder. |

|
Nathan Petrelli, played by Adrian Pasdar
Peter's brother, Nathan is a self-centered, self-righteous politician running for Congress. Nathan is extremely controlling of his family, always worrying that they could very well damage his campaign. Taking after his father a lot, Nathan finds his brother Peter's view of the world unrealistic and too dreamy for his own tastes. Nevertheless, he tries to help his brother, whether by bailing him out of a Texas jail or covering for his "mental issues" with the press.
Though a politician, Nathan has his own agendas, and one of them is stopping the Linderman Group, which is responsible for his wife Heidi's paralysis. Nathan also learns the daughter he conceived out of a one-night stand in Texas years ago survived a catastrophic fire. He manages to meet the girl, Claire Bennet, after she comes from Texas looking for his brother Peter. Though he has the campaign to worry about, he seems to genuinely want to get to know Claire better.
Unlike Peter, who is desperately trying to stop the nuclear explosion in New York City, Nathan has been coached by his mother that the incident needs to occur in oder for him to "lead the people" after the catastrophe. Likewise, Linderman guarantees his victory in his congressional race and hints at Nathan one day being the President of the Untied States. he seems willing to let events unfold...until Claire reminds him about loyalty to those he loves. At the last possible minute, just before Peter will explode in the plaza, Nathan turns up and tells Peter he will fly him to a safe distance before he goes off. Peter, realizing that the gesture is suicidal for Nathan, tries to argue, but Nathan tells him that "you saved the cheerleader so we could save the world." He then takes Peter in his arms and flies miles into the stratosphere, where Peter explodes. |

Niki Sanders, played by Ali Larter
Vegas stripper, mother of Micah, discovers her mirror image has a secret. |
| |
| |
|
Peter Petrelli, played by Milo Ventimiglia
Peter, a 26 year old male nurse, begins to believe that he can fly -- and really can. For a few moments, anyway. He also is able to "draw the future" after meeting Issac and is approached by Hiro while time has stopped.
Peter truly believes in these abilities, unlike his brother Nathan, and when discussing these strange incidents with Mohinder Suresh he realizes that he himself has the ability to mimic other people's gifts for a short while (explaining the flying, the drawing, and his ability to move during Hiro's time-stop). After meeting "Claude Rains," Peter learns that he has the capability to use his acquired abilities indefinitely by remembering what the contributing individual made him feel like. So far, Peter has acquired the abilities of his brother Nathan, Hiro Nakamura, Issac Mendez, "Claude Rains", Matt Parkman, Niki Sanders, Ted Sprague, and his newfound niece, Claire Bennet. Peter has also gained Sylar's dominant ability of telekinesis, though it's unclear if he picked up any other abilities from him.
After saving Claire from the murderous Sylar at her Homecoming in Odessa, Texas, Peter had a vision that he would become a nuclear event that would destroy New York City. He then learned about how his ability worked and the fact that there was indeed a radioactive man (Ted Sprague, whom Peter later meet) that could cause such a catastrophe. He also learns that Claire is more than a cheerleader---she's his brother Nathan's biological daughter, making her his niece. The two share a close relationship despite having known each other for such a short time. When her family was attacked, Claire headed straight for Peter, believing him to be the only person she could trust.
