Title: Tabula Rasa
Tabula Rasa is latin for "empty tablet", that is, a "blank slate". The main related notion in regard to this episode is that a mind which is cleared of knowledge, such as Sylar's, is ready to be written on anew. Nominally, the idea is that Sylar need not be a murderous and sadistic threat to society. There are many psychological elements, however, dealing with the argument of heredity vs. environment, which may interfere with this in actual practice. | The comic book that Hiro is reading in the hospital as Peter points him out to Emma is Berserker, a comic book produced by Milo Ventimiglia. | Available data on Jeremy Greer, from Noah's report:
DoB: 10/14/1992
Age at report: 13 (assuming real-time, he's just turned 17 so the interaction with him took place 3-4 years before)
Ability: Healing Touch
Location: Cainan, GA (does not appear to actually exist in this universe)
Ht: 5'5" Wt: 135 (both at 13 years of age, presumably changed)
Hair: Brown Eyes: Lt Brown.
From the report, he was picked up for observation, his ability noted, and he was wiped of all memory of the ability and released, with a recommendation for further periodic observation since he would probably rediscover it. His ability could not "bring back the dead", but, at least on insects, it would work, and almost instantaneously, when the creature was moments away from death due to being stepped on, so it was capable of repairing massive trauma. |

Episode Quotes |
| |
Samuel Sullivan: A broken vessel. An empty shell. What is a man without a mind? Without memory? A ghost? A body in search of a soul? With no compass to guide us, how can we know if our destiny is to seek the good... or obey the demons that whisper in our ear? The blank slate hungers to be written upon. The body thrives when the heart has a mission. | Lydia: Are you going to stop this?
Samuel Sullivan: Boys will be boys. | Hiro: Manifesting a power is a wondrous time. A hero never refuses a call.
Emma Coolidge: I'm deaf, I can't hear the call. | Noah: The Company wasn't what you'd call a support group. | Hiro: I have an ability, too. I am the master of time and space. Well, I was. Lately time and space have been the master of me. | Noah: Listen to me. My power is understanding people like you. That's what I do. | Samuel Sullivan: Tonight we welcome a new brother into our family. He will live and work among us. And will be welcome here all the rest of our days. | Edgar: What use is he to us like this? What use is a lion who can't kill
Samuel Sullivan: Maybe it's better this way. We'll just make a better Sylar. And when we do, he'll be ours forever. |
