Meredith calls Nathan and informs him that their daughter, Claire, has found her. Nathan says it's been 14 years since the fire and the aftermath when he went to her funeral. She explains that she was being chased and caused the fire, using her apparent death as cover to make her escape. Nathan wonders if she's threatening to reveal Claire's existence to undermine his political campaign, and offers her $100,000 to remain silent, then hangs up.
Mr. Bennet and Sandra returns home and Claire wants to know if her mother is okay. Mr. Bennet says she needs some rest and they have an appointment with a neurologist to diagnose Sandra's headaches. Claire points out she's also having memory losses but her father reassures her he's handling the situation.
Jessica covers up the symbol on her back using makeup. In the mirror, Niki says that she can't fool D.L. but Jessica believes she can pull it off.
Matt is going to work at his first day as a private security guard. Janice is concerned that he's carrying a gun but he assures her that he's just going to be acting as a glorified babysitter.
Micah asks his parents if they're ever going to talk about their powers, and thinks they should use them for good. Jessica tells him not to worry about it for now, and D.L. tells her there's a package that came for her. She opens it while getting a call from an unidentified person. The person says the person whose photo is in the package stole money from Linderman, and they want him dead. The photo is of Linderman's attorney, Aron Malsky.
Matt arrives at the airport and picks up his client: Aron Malsky.
Hiro and Ando travel back to the Montecito Casino in Los Angeles and sneak in through the kitchen as they try and find the sword. Hiro says they have to have hope, and Ando notices a showgirl crying. He goes over and asks if there's anything they can do, and she says her name is Hope.
Matt drives Malsky to his meeting, and the lawyer insists that he doesn't want to chat or be bothered. As they drive, Matt picks up Malsky thinking that Matt had better know how to use his gun or they'll both be dead.
Mohinder tries to call people on the list but everyone hangs up on him. Checking his answering machine, he finds a call from a Zane Taylor who is worried about his ability and wants to meet with Mohinder.
Hope explains to Hiro and Ando that she has an abusive boyfriend, Steve, and she left her bag in his room. Ando offers to get the bag for them, but Hiro is reluctant until Hope mentions that she can introduce them to Linderman if they help her. She comes up with a plan: Ando dresses as a hotel employee and delivers complimentary food to Steve's room. Ando leaves but once Steve gets in the shower, Hiro emerges from beneath the cart and lets Ando back in, and they search the room for Hope's bag. Hiro finds a rifle and says they have to get out, but when he leaves Ando stays behind and is forced to hide under the bed when Steve comes back out.
Zane Taylor is waiting for Mohinder to arrive and the doorbell rings. He answers it to find that Sylar. Sylar says that he's Mohinder and Zane invites him in. He offers to show Sylar his power and takes a pot from the kitchen, warning it can get messy.
Nathan tells his mother Angela about the situation with Claire. He insists on going to Texas to deal with it, against her advice. He notes how cold she is but she warns that despite Nathan's gruff exterior, he'll get attached to Claire, who'll take his money. She advises him to just wire the money and stay in New York.
Claire is in her room looking at Meredith's necklace when Mr. Bennet comes in and tells her that Sandra is resting. He reveals that he knows that Claire skipped school with Zach, and that the aquarium story they concocted is a fake. He grounds her and Claire snaps at him that he's not her real father, but he says he's the only father she has. After he leaves, Claire calls Meredith and wants to talk about her real father. Meredith explains that Nathan will be flying in from New York, but doesn't want Claire meeting him until she has a chance to talk to Nathan first.
Matt takes Malsky to a building, unaware that Jessica is outside watching. Malsky meets with a man and demands to see the diamonds he's paying for. As the man talks, Matt hears him think that Linderman's killer will be there to eliminate Malsky. Matt says they have to leave immediately and gets Malsky out, and asks who Linderman is and why he would send a killer. Malsky explains that Linderman is his ex-boss and Matt hears him thinking that he stole $2 million from Linderman. Malsky gives him a diamond in payment but as they wait for the elevator, Matt picks up Jessica's thoughts as she comes up. When the door opens, Matt has gotten Malsky away down the stairs.
Hiro goes back to Hope's dressing room but hides in a rack of clothing as he overhears her talking to someone on the phone. She's complaining about how her partner takes half the money when she does all the work, and she's got two Chinese guys to help her. Hiro trips and falls, and Hope briefly tries to cover herself. When that doesn't work, she punches Hiro, knocking him out.
Matt gets Malsky down the stairs to escape. Up above, Jessica comes after them but Niki pleads with her to stop before she messes up both their lives. Jessica explains that she's killing Malsky to pay off her debt to Linderman for getting out of jail. Matt hears both of them "talking" via his telepathy, and calls the police for backup. Jessica shoots at them and Matt gets Malsky to cover then manages to get behind Jessica. He handcuffs her to the railing and asks where Niki is, and Jessica bluffs saying Niki has gone to kill Malsky. Matt goes to find Malsky, who is repeatedly thinking "fourth one over, third one back." Before he can get Malsky to cover, Jessica attacks him and throws him out a window, where he lands on a sign below as the police arrive below.
Claire goes to Meredith's house asking to see her father. She explains that her adopted mother is sick and hopes that Nathan can help. Meredith warns that they can't count on Nathan for help and all he's doing is sending money. Meredith wants half of it but Claire isn't interested. Meredith says that she's going to Mexico and they won't see each for a while, then takes a cell phone picture of Claire.
Matt goes back to find Malsky, who Jessica has brutally killed. The police arrive, guns pointed.
Mohinder arrives at Zane's house and Sylar lets him in, claiming to be Zane. Sylar explains that he isn't worried now and has come to grips with his ability. He then demonstrates "his" power, causing a toaster to melt without heat.
Nathan meets with Meredith at her trailer and apologizes, then gives Meredith the money. She shows Nathan the photo of Claire, unaware that Claire is outside listening in. Meredith says that she told Claire that Nathan was just going to pay them off and leave. Nathan accepts this and leaves. A she goes, Claire throws a large rock at his back windshield, cracking it. Nathan stops but then figures it was just some kids playing.
Sylar explains how he controls his abilities, and Mohinder asks for a DNA sample. Sylar steps out with the swab as he gets some tea, then takes a DNA sample form Zane's corpse in the kitchen. Returning, Mohinder tells him to keep his abilities secret because some people might want to hurt him. He tells Sylar there are others on the list with special abilities, and he plans to find them. Sylar offers to go with him to help.
Ando manages to get out of Steve's room with Hope's bag, and takes it to her. She asks him to come with her to her mom's house. When he asks where Hiro is, Hope says she already took him to her contact guy with Linderman. She says that Hiro said he didn't need Ando any more, then kisses Ando to shut him up.
Locked in a closet, Hiro tries to break out without success. When he hears someone outside, he calls out that Hope is dangerous. However, the man who lets him out is Steve Gustavson, who says he's a member of the State Gaming Commission.
Matt explains to the investigating detective about what happened, and that somehow Jessica broke the handcuffs. The detective wonders if Matt knows where the diamonds are, since they disappeared. Matt doesn't, but remembers what Aron said and realizes he was referring to the tiles overhead. He prepares to point out the location to the detective, but when he hears the guy thinking that Matt is a joke, he decides not to.
Claire comes home to find Sandra screaming at Mr. Muggles. Her mother doesn't remember having a dog, and doesn't remember Claire.
Jessica returns home and calls to tell her contact that Malsky is dead. Micah tells her that she received another package. Opening it, she finds a photo of Nathan. She tells her contact that they should consider it done.
