The Hard Part - Recap

Hiro and Ando look at Isaac's last issue of 9th Wonders!</I> but discover that it's missing the captions. They decide to go to Isaac's apartment, unaware that he's dead.

Bennet, Matt, and Ted stop at a car lot to find a vehicle to get them to New York. When Matt tries to call his wife, Bennet stops him, warning the lines are probably tapped and contacting Janice would just put her at risk. Ted uses his abilities to defrost and then start a car and they leave.



At Isaac's loft, Sylar is painting a future where he takes Ted's powers and then detonates, killing half of the city. He phones Mohinder to help him understand why he would sacrifice himself in such a manner. Mohinder tries to call 911 on a separate phone but Sylar hears him with his stolen enhanced hearing and hangs up.

In Las Vegas, D.L. discovers that Linderman has taken Micah and goes to the casino to find his son. Jessica initially refuses to go, but Niki appears to her in a mirror and convinces her to go with D.L. to protect him and find Micah.

At a Company facility in New York City, Candice talks to Linderman on the phone about her dissatisfaction with watching Micah. He convinces her to sty with the job and she goes into the next form, assuming the illusory form of Niki to reassure Micah and convince him to help Linderman.



Outside the building, Mohinder meets with Thompson, who suggests that he work with the Company. Mohinder says that they need to work with him, as he has the key to stopping Sylar. Thompson accepts and invites him in to meet with Molly Walker, one of the people on the list. Sylar found out about Sylar from Chandra's list, and killed her parents trying to track her down and gain her ability. Mohinder checks out a blood sample and realizes that she has the same virus as his sister Shanti. Thompson claims that Molly is the only one who can stop Sylar.

Sylar calls someone and sets up a meeting.

Hiro and Ando arrive at the loft and spot Isaac's corpse. They hide behind one of Sylar's new paintings but he hears their heartbeats and approaches them. Hiro teleports himself and Ando to a nearby convenience store and Ando convinces Hiro they must kill Sylar before he explodes. They see him leave the apartment and follow.



D.L. uses his power to get himself and Jessica into Linderman's quarters, finding his private gallery. There they find records and Isaac Mendez paintings detailing their entire life. They discover that Linderman left for New York City and go to the airport to follow him.

Mohinder meets with Molly and takes some blood. When he mentions Sylar, Molly thinks the killer is the "bogeyman" and can't be stopped. Molly explains that she has the power to find anyone in the world but the virus is stopping her from using her power.



Peter, Claire, and Nathan are at the Petrelli mansion and Peter tries to convince Claire to stay. Claire notes the similarity between Peter's potential explosion and Ted's ability, and explains how Ted terrorized her family. Peter suggests that Nathan call the FBI about Ted, but when Nathan leaves the room he calls Linderman and warns they may have a problem.

Sylar goes to a small apartment and meets... his mother, Virginia Gray. Ando and Hiro are surprised to see him meeting with her. Virginia doesn't know anything about her son's murderous activities. He starts working on a broken clock that belonged to his father and Virginia complains that he needs to find a real job. Sylar asks her to be happy with him being a watchman, but she insists that he could be President if he wanted to be.



Nathan goes to his campaign office and meets with Thompson. They discuss Linderman's plan and Nathan is unhappy he's being kept out of the loop. Peter and Claire arrive to talk to Nathan but Claire sees Thompson in Nathan's office and explains to Peter her father used to work for him. Realizing that Nathan is somehow connected to the Company, they leave.

Micah finally realizes that Candice isn't his mother and tries to escape. Candice uses her powers to change the corridors, keeping him going in circles. He asks who she is and she tells him to behave or she'll mess him up.

Sylar finally shows Virginia his powers by demonstrating his telekinesis and cyrokinesis. However, when he accidentally injures her, she gets upset and runs into the bedroom.



Mohinder goes through his father's records trying to find a cure for Molly. He finds a picture of his parents and sister, a few months before he was born. He vows to find a cure for Molly and she gives him a paper star for protection.

As Hiro and Ando watch Virginia's apartment, Hiro begins to wonder if he can kill Sylar. He insists that he can't kill a man asking for forgiveness, but Ando reminds him of the future predicted in the comic book. One of the drawings shows Sylar killing Ando. Meanwhile, Sylar convinces Virginia to come out and explains his prophetic vision. He tries to get her to help determine why he would try and destroy New York City, but she orders him out of the house, insisting that he's damned. She grabs a pair of scissors but when he tries to calm her down, she's accidentally stabbed. Hiro arrives, freezing time, but hesitates and time starts again. Sylar first wants Hiro to kill him but realizing that Hiro can't bring himself to do it. Sylar then freezes his sword and prepares to kill him. Ando bursts in, startling Sylar, and Hiro teleports himself and his friend away. Sylar then goes to his dead mother, shocked.



Mohinder realizes what can cure the Shanti virus: his own healthy antibodies. Although he was too born too late to save his sister, he can use his blood to save Molly.

Hiro and Ando teleport back to Isaac's loft. Hiro blames himself for failing Ando, and realizes that the Kensei sword is broken.



At the Petrelli mansion, Peter is looking through doors when he sees Claire preparing to leave. He gives her the gun he's found and asks her to shoot him if he ever starts to explode. He takes out his sketchbook with drawings of the explosion. Ted is one of them and Peter recognizes the building in the background.

Angela meets with Nathan at his office and says that Linderman wants her to convince Nathan to go through with the plan. She explains that the plan that herself and others have been involved with for quite some time. She insists that Nathan needs to help them to make sure their plan comes to fruition.

Sylar uses his mother's blood as paint and makes a drawing on the floor of the explosion. Caught in his vision of the future, he talks about assuming the Presidency.



As Claire and Peter leave the mansion, they enter the location on the drawing. Bennet, Matt, and Ted are there. Claire and Bennet are reunited while Peter starts to glow from mimicking Ted's abilities as they run out of control in his body.
