Mohinder is at a sparsely-attended lecture hall in Cairo as part of a tour he’s conducting explaining the dangers of the Shanti Virus, and how it is targeting evolved humans. An older man approaches him and congratulates him on his efforts, but Mohinder recognizes him as a Company operative. Mohinder refuses to run away this time, but the man says he’s there to offer Mohinder a job.
In San Cristobol, Honduras, Alejandro and Maya Herrera try to stay ahead of the police. Alejandro assures her sister that by Tuesday they’ll be in the U.S. to get the answers to their questions.
Noah drops Claire off at her new high school. Claire is using the assumed name of Claire Butler and Noah warns her that she has to stay as inconspicuous as possible as they’ve relocated the entire family. Claire hints that she’d like a car for her birthday and Noah gives her an early present of a Nissan Rogue. A happy Claire heads in to class only to almost get run over by a boy, who seems to recognize who--or what--she is
Hiro finds himself teleporting into an open meadow, and spots a group of men dressed in Samurai archer with bows. They prepare to fire in his direction, and he realizes that Takezo Kensei, standing behind him, is their target. An eclipse occurs and Hiro stops time with the arrows in mid-flight, then teleports Kensei and his horse away.
Matt Parkman arrives at a door, armed, and demands entrance as a NYPD cop. He bursts in and finds two people, each claiming the other is a gunman and they’re the hostage. Matt scans their minds and shoots the correct person. The lights come up, revealing it’s a training simulation. Matt’s superior Detective Fuller congratulates him on passing his final test, as Matt hastily gives an explanation for how he identified the gunman. Now that Matt has been certified and recovered from his bullet wounds, Fuller announces that he is a full-time policeman.
Claire is sitting in science class secretly “practicing” her power by sticking her hand in a Bunsen burner flame. The boy from earlier comes over and introduces himself as West, and she quickly covers what she was doing. The teacher asks for someone to answer his questions about evolution, and although Claire knows the answers she covers up her knowledge to avoid attention.
Maya and Alejandro contact some smugglers and negotiate for them to get to the border. The driver hits on Maya but Alejandro makes sure she is in the back with him and other immigrants.
Matt goes to pick up Molly at school and her teacher Ms. Gerber asks for a casual meeting. Gerber is concerned that Molly has been dozing off and having nightmares in class. Matt defends himself, saying he’s doing his best, and Gerber shows him some of Molly’s drawings, which features eyes and the Symbol.
Kaito and Ando are standing watch at Kirby Plaza waiting for Hiro to return. They’re unaware that a scraggly bearded Nathan Petrelli is nearby. Kaito speaks of how Hiro impressed him after years of disappointment then opens his paper… and discovers a photograph of himself, torn from a larger print, with the symbol drawn on it in red ink. Ando, who brought the paper from the nearby Nakamura office, has no idea how the photo got there and Kaito says he has 24 hours to live.
Angela and Nathan meet at Peter’s apartment. A drunken Nathan insists that Peter is still alive despite no evidence of his existence in the last four months. They fight and shatter a picture of the two brothers, and Angela accuses him of killing Peter and abandoning Heidi and his sons. Nathan insists that she’s evil and tells her to leave. On her way out, she notice a photo of herself… with the symbol drawn on it in red ink.
Hiro teleports Kensei to safety but the horse panics and throws Kensei off. “Kensei” runs off, saying he’s not being paid enough. The real Kensei arrives, masked, and holds a crossbow on Hiro. He saw some of what happened and wants to know how Hiro scattered the soldiers. Hiro tries to introduce himself and Kensei removes his mask… to reveal he’s Caucasian. Hiro says that he knows Kensei as a hero but Kensei has no idea what he means.
Noah is at his new job as a box boy at Copy Kingdom, and his boss gives him a hard time. Noah is clearly angry but reins it in to maintain his new identity.
Mohinder and the Company man have a drink in a Cairo restaurant and the Company operative talks about how a group of evolved humans banded together to find others of their kind and eliminate the dangerous ones. Mohinder isn’t impressed although the operative points out he did the same thing with Mohinder. The operative explains that they want to fund Mohinder’s research and find a cure for the plague. Mohinder is interested but points out the research, and the man responds by transforming a spoon into pure gold.
Matt comes home to Mohinder’s apartment with pizza for Molly and tries to get her to talk about her nightmares. She refuses and when he pursues the matter, she screams and runs to her bedroom.
Alejandro and Maya are riding in the truck, and Maya is reading
Activating Evolution, impressed with Dr. Suresh’s work. Alejandro figure that Suresh knows a cure for Maya’s condition but she thinks it’s a curse from God. The truck stops and the driver tries to hold them up for more money. When Alejandro refuses, the men put Maya in the front, shove Alejandro down, and drive away without him. He runs after them.
Claire is playing badminton in gym class while the cheerleaders practice nearby. West confronts her and says he isn’t impressed with her, accusing her of knowing the answer in class but not saying anything. Claire insists she doesn’t want to stand out, but notices head cheerleader Debbie forcing one of the tryout girls to do something she can’t. Claire tries to defend the girl, Martha, and Debbie says she’ll back off if Claire can do the maneuver. Claire starts to consider it, but then backs down to maintain her cover.
Molly is sleeping and having nightmares, and Matt comes in and hears her thoughts, as well as a voice in her head saying that it can see Molly. Matt tries to reassure her when she wakes up but Molly warns that if she says anything, the man in her nightmares will kill him.
Alone in the gym, Claire tries to do the maneuver from a tower but breaks her leg. Her leg heals just as West comes by.
Noah is having a break when his boss comes in and starts harassing him again. Bennet snaps, grabs the man’s finger, and uses it as leverage to pin him down. He tells the manager not to bother him any more.
Hiro and Kensei are walking and Kensei explains that he took the name “Kensei” (meaning “Sword Saint”) to intimidate others, and that he sailed over from England. Kensei explains that he hires men to stand in for him in the masked armor while he picks off his opponents with a crossbow. Hiro doesn’t think that’s the work of a proper hero but Kensei is unimpressed. They come upon the village of Otsu… only to find it burning.
Kaito has taken Ando to the roof of the Deveaux Building and asks him to get his sword so he can fight. Angela arrive and they talk, discussing the fact that they were both members of the original twelve Company founders. They suspect that one of the others is responsible for the death threats they’ve both received. Kaito admits he tried to redeem the many horrible deeds they did by helping Hiro, and asks Angela what she did. She slaps him and prepares to leave, and Kaito warns her that they should both disappear.
Hiro walks through Otsu and realizes that he may have already altered the future. Kensei is more interested in getting a drink, but Hiro explains that for his legendary efforts he becomes rich and gets the swordsmith’s beautiful daughter. A young woman comes up and slaps Kensei, saying that they paid him to protect Otsu but the bandits burned down the place while he was gone and took her father, the swordsmith. The girl, Yaeko, takes Kensei’s sword (Hiro’s sword in the future), and goes to rescue her father alone. Hiro tries to get Kensei to follow but the Englishman punches him and goes to find a drink.
The Bennet family meet for supper but it’s interrupted when Noah gets a call. He takes it and talks to… Mohinder, who has been trying to attract the Company’s attention and has finally succeeded. It becomes clear that Noah and Mohinder are working together to infiltrate and destroy the Company.
Alejandro catches up to the trick, which is stopped on the road. He finds Maya nearby and all of the occupants dead, a black liquid oozing out of their eyes. Maya is blaming herself but her brother assures her she’s not to blame. They take the truck and Alejandro prepares to bury the dead.
At home, Claire calls Nathan to talk but he’s at a bar and isn’t interested in talking to her. He hangs up on her then looks up into the mirror, where he imagines a hideously burned reflection of himself briefly looking back. In California, Claire is unaware that West is outside her window… hovering in mid-air. Before she can spot him, he flies off.
Kaito is waiting for Ando when a hooded figure approaches him. Kaito is surprised at his appearance. Ando comes out onto the roof just in time to see the newcomer run at Kaito, grab him, and throw them both off the rooftop. Ando moves to the edge and sees Kaito’s broken body… and no sign of the intruder.
Three thieves at a shipping yard in Cork, Ireland, break into a cargo carrier to steal iPods. Inside they find… Peter Petrelli, handcuffed inside and wearing a necklace with the Symbol on it. When their leader, Ricky, demands to know what happened to the shipment, Peter says he doesn’t remember anything, and throws one of them back with an electrical burst when he touches them.
