Will and Tuko are beating up Peter while Ricky tries to figure out where their missing shipment of iPods are. Peter says he doesn’t remember anything and the men continue beating him.
At home, Sandra warns Claire about using her powers and staying low, but Claire says that trying to be normal at school is just making her stand out even more. She warns her father that she can’t hide who she is but he insists on keeping the family safe no matter what. Claire leaves for school in her new car while Sandra reads about Kaito Nakamura’s death. Mr. Bennet explains that his death was foretold in the first of a series of eight Isaac Mendez paintings, and he plans to get the rest.
The police are questioning Ando about Kaito’s death when Matt Parkman and Detective Fuller arrive. They discover that Kaito had the piece of the photograph and Ando saw someone pushing Kaito off the roof, even though there’s only one corpse. They’ve discovered Angela Petrelli’s fingerprints on the photo section and order her brought in for questioning. Matt talks to Ando privately, and Ando identifies the symbol as the kanji for “godsend,” the crest of Takezo Kensei. However, he tells Matt that Hiro isn’t available to discuss the matter.
In Japan in 1671, Hiro finds Takezo Kensei who is dead drunk. Hiro tries to revive him and send him to rescue Yaeko but with no luck. Hiro dons Kensei’s armor and rides off to rescue the girl on his own.
Claire is in biology class as her teacher shows a film about a lizard regenerating a new limb and talking about evolution. Claire asks some questions about the limits of mutation, while everyone else wonders what she’s on about and West smiles.
Mohinder meets with Bob and asks for access to the Company records. Bob agrees but gives him his first assignment: he needs to go to Port-au-Prince to test a man who may have the Shanti Virus. He also warns Mohinder not to get killed since his blood is the only cure they currently have.
In Guatemala, Alejandro and Maya arrive at the home of Nidia, a family friend. Nidia is supposed to help them cross the river into Mexico.
A woman, Caitlin, comes in to ask Peter about the necklace, but he doesn’t remember it. As she cleans up the blood on his face, she realizes that all of his wounds have healed.
Mohinder arrives in Port-au-Prince and finds the sick man: the Haitian. The Haitian believes the illness is a punishment from God since he misused his abilities, but Mohinder convinces him that the cure might also come from God.
Maya speaks to another woman that Nidia is helping to get into Mexico, a woman who says she’s a healer. She has powers of her own and realizes how dangerous Maya’s power is, and say she is cursed. The woman leaves with her daughter, refusing to associate with Maya.
In the woods, Yaeko is struggling with several swordsmen who deride her for being a woman. Hiro arrives in Kensei’s mask and battle armor and tells them to leave her alone. Hiro quickly defeats them by stopping time and taking their weapons, and they run off. Yaeko believes him to be Kensei and rides back with him to the village.
Peter tries to free himself as Caitlin keeps watch outside, and eventually phases his hands through the ropes. Two men come in and attack Caitlin, and Peter comes to her rescue using his electrical, telekinetic, and super-strength powers.
West come up to Claire and talks about her fascination with lizards and genetics, and says he’s into genetics too. He mentions Dr. Chandra’s book and offers to loan her a copy of the book. She tries to get away only to discover that her car is missing.
Hiro and Yaeko ride into a cherry blossom grove and she apologizes for thinking poorly of “Kensei” when he stole their money earlier. Hiro promises to rescue her father but refuses to remove his mask. He says that their love will be a legendary one, then teleports away when she isn’t looking.
Mohinder has succeeded in curing the Haitian, which unfortunately means that he had the Shanti Virus and it’s spreading. When Mohinder lets slip that he works for the Company, he blacks out for a moment… and finds himself meeting with Bob back in the States. Bob knows of the Haitian and figures that he wiped Mohinder’s memories, so the cure must have worked and restored is powers.
Nidia takes Maya and Alejandro to the border and two women go to a pipe going below the river. The police arrive and try to arrest them, unaware that Alejandro is present. Maya’s ability manifests and Nidia and the police collapse, dying. Alejandro comes up and negates the virus, and a fearful Nidia leaves them.
Claire visits her father at Copy Kingdom and tells him about the stolen car. He warns her that they can’t afford any mistakes but she wonders if her powers could help people if they could be studied and duplicated, but Mr. Bennet warns that some people would dissect her to determine how she functions.
Matt and Fuller interview Angela Petrelli, pointing out she had a fight with Kaito shortly before the murder. Matt confronts her with the photo and she denies knowing anything, but he reads her thoughts and realizes she’s thinking of someone who wants revenge. When he follows that line of questioning, she realizes what he’s doing and asks for a lawyer. When he continues to probe her thoughts, she yells loudly in her mind, startling him. Outside, he meets with Nathan, who is there to bail out his mother because she has no one else. They hear screaming in the interrogation room and break through the one-way glass to find her covered in scratches and holding part of the photo with herself, and the symbol.
Ricky comes back to the pub and says that the men who attacked were working for the man he owes money to. Now the situation is a blood feud between the two families and Peter is going to have to help them with a new robbery to get the money to pay up. Peter refuses… until Ricky reveals he has a box with Peter’s possessions, and he’ll burn the box if Peter doesn’t help.
Hiro finds Kensei and explains that he needed it to save Yaeko. She arrives and thanks the now unmasked Kensei (or so she thinks), and Kensei believes to realize he can get more of a reward as a hero. The men from earlier arrive outside and shoot Kensei with arrows, then ride away. As Hiro looks on, Kensei starts to regenerate the wounds.
Mohinder is at his apartment late at night when Noah Bennet calls him. Mohinder is sure that Bob believes their deception, and now Noah is going to get the remaining paintings. Bennet hangs up… and meets with the Haitian.
Claire is at home reading about limb regeneration, and considers her pinky toe. She picks up a pair of scissors and cuts it off, then watches in amazement as it grows back. Mr. Muggles starts barking and Claire looks up to see West watching her through the window. She runs outside to confront him but he seems to have disappeared, as Mr. Muggles barks up at the sky.
