In Mexico, a policeman spots Alejandro and Maya and chases after them. He catches Alejandro but Maya manages to escape.

Niki and Micah are in Las Vegas visiting D.L.’s grave. Nikki insists they have to leave and start a new life, over Micah’s objections.

A redhead in a bikini is lying on a beach relaxing when she gets a phone call. As she talks to the person at the other end, Sylar wakes up next to her and demands to know where he is. The redhead introduces herself as Michelle, saying she used to be Candice but changed her name and face after she got Sylar away from Kirby Plaza. She describes how he was stabbed but there’s no sign of injury on his chest. Skeptical, he demands to know what’s going on and she explains that she’s maintaining a mental illusion. When he insists that she show him the real situation, she drops the illusion and reveals he’s in a room with medical equipment and stitches in his chest. Sylar screams in agony as Michelle also drops the illusion of painlessness she’s been maintaining for him.

It’s breakfast at the Bennet house and Noah apologizes to Claire for his earlier words, but warns that if someone found out about her ability, they’d have to move again. Claire goes to school where West talks about seeing her cut off her toe the previous night. She denies it and tries to explain she just spilled red fingernail polish while giving herself a manicure, but he clearly doesn’t believe it and she tells him to stay away from her.

Matt is at the apartment and confronts Mohinder as he works in the kitchen. Parkman doesn’t believe it’s safe to work with the Company, particularly around Molly, but they’re interrupted when Molly comes in.

Ando is goofing off at work when his immediate boss comes in, and warns him that Kaito Nakamura can’t protect him no matter how close they are. After the supervisor leaves, Ando finds a file containing Hiro’s sword, and a message from his friend saying to open the hilt. Inside are several scrolls from Hiro saying he’s in 1671 and met Takezo Kensei, and must help shape his legend.

In 1671, Kensei wakes up to find himself impaled with arrows. Hiro pulls them out and the wounds heal almost instantly. Kensei believes Hiro is a devil and rides away.

Peter tries to reawaken his powers and get them under control, without any success. Claire, looking on, wonders who he really is and suggests he find out. When he wonders if he can trust her, she points out that she’s kept his secrets so far.

Alejandro is put in jail with an American, Ricky, but neither one of them speak the other’s language. The police haven’t noticed yet that there’s a wanted poster of Alejandro on the wall.

Claire is attending biology class when West deliberately asks the teacher questions about lizards and their regenerative questions, clearly upsetting Claire.

Ando reads Hiro’s scrolls about how his friend has fallen in love with Yaeko but believes she’s destined for Kensei. In 1671, Hiro finds Kensei and demonstrates his ability to teleport. Hiro then appeals to Kensei’s greed, saying he can win any duel. Kensei starts to look interested, but then Hiro grabs him and teleports him to the castle of the 90 ronin who have the fire scrolls. Hiro gives Kensei back his katana, then teleports away to let him handle the situation.

West talks to Claire at school and tell her that he knows about her. She refuses to listen to him but he grabs her and flies them away, and she starts laughing with pleasure.

Peter helps Ricky, Tuko, and Will with the robbery of a money delivery to a bar, using his powers to create a distraction. The guards set off the alarm and start firing back, but Peter uses his telekinesis to block them with the armored truck, then escapes with the others.

Mohinder goes to Isaac Mendez’s loft where Bob is waiting for him. The Company has outfitted the place with laboratory equipment and wants to keep Mohinder happy now that he’s part of their family.

In 1671, Hiro and Yaeko wait for Kensei, and Yaeko wonders about Kensei. She has trouble reconciling the bully she’s seen with the masked gentleman (really Hiro) that she met under the cherry blossoms. Kensei arrives with the fire scrolls and Yaeko embraces him, while Hiro looks on sadly.

Niki and Micah arrive in New Orleans and she tells him to hide his powers. She leaves him with D.L.’s relative Dana and her family and promises she’ll be back, but there’s something she has to do. Micah isn’t convinced.

Maya goes into the police station and tries to bail out her brother. She starts to panic and her eyes turn black, and the officers and Ricky start to die. She gets Alejandro out of the cell and when he holds her hands, he takes on her illness. Everyone else starts to recover and Ricky asks to go with them, saying he has a car. They get outside ahead of the police and get into Ricky’s Nissan Rogue: the one Claire had in California.

Back at the pub, Will pulls a gun on Ricky, demands the stolen money, and shoots Peter when he tries to interfere. He threatens Ricky but then Peter gets up and telekinetically grabs him. Caitlin convinces Peter to let Will go and the man runs off, while Ricky looks on in amazement.

In 1671, Hiro prepares to depart but Kensei says he needs his help. Hiro refuses, warning his presence could alter history, and prepares to leave. However, when he sees Yaeko he decides to stay.

Sylar is in the cabin with Michelle, trying to use his powers. However, he’s powerless and Michelle notes that once he’s fully healed he’ll be able to access his stolen abilities. Until then, she’s at his command and demonstrates her ability to appear to be anyone. He responds by breaking a coffee cup over her head, transforming her back to her original “Betty” form, then killing her and taking her ability. However, he discovers that her new power won’t work for him either. Frustrated, he runs outside and discovers he’s in the middle of nowhere.

Now that Peter has saved Ricky, Caitlin gives him a tattoo of their family crest. Ricky gives him the box but Peter doesn’t want to open it, wondering if he’s a killer. Caitlin seems happy with that and they kiss, unaware that the Godsend symbol briefly appears in place of the tattoo before fading away.

West flies Claire to a beach and they talk about what she can do. They kiss and then she notices the tracking marks on his neck. West explains that when he was in St. Louis, he was kidnapped for a day but has little memory of what happened. The only thing he remembers is a man with horn-rimmed glasses, and Claire realizes who she’s talking about.

Bob brings Mohinder a vial to examine and then takes a call outside: it’s Niki, asking for a cure. Bob agrees, as long as she does something for her. Inside the lab, Mohinder finds Isaac’s eighth painting and uses a cell phone to send it to Noah Bennet at home. Noah looks at the picture, which shows him dead with a bullet in his left eye, and Claire and West holding each other in the background. Claire comes in and Noah hastily hides the picture and wishes her goodnight, then contemplates the painting again.
