Episode Quotes
Tracy: Do you think that you know me?
Nathan: The word "Biblically" comes to mind.

Future Peter: What were you doing?!?
Claire: What did it look like, huh? Trying to get hit by a train!

Hiro: We need to set a trap. That's what Batman always does with Catwoman.

Sylar: My name is Sylar...and you are not my mother.
Angela: But I am, dear...I am.

Episode Goofs
Angela says that Future Peter is to blame for letting Sylar get Claire's power, because he told her not to come to Odessa. Therefore she was at home where Sylar could find her. But... if Future Peter hadn't come back in time, Claire would have been at home where Sylar could have found her, because she would have had no reason to come to Odessa if Nathan hadn't been shot.

Cultural References
Episode Title: The Butterfly Effect

The Butterfly Effect is a phrase that references chaos theory in which seemingly small changes in a system can cause large changes long-term. The term first came to prominence in Ray Bradbury's 1952 story A Sound of Thunder, when a man on a time travel expedition to the past steps on a butterfly and returns to the present to discover that history has now been substantially altered.

Usutu: (to Matt) No service here. Should have gone with Sprint.

Usutu's line is a plug for Sprint, which is a corporate sponsor of the series.

Episode References
Claire making a video of her attempts to get hurt by jumping in front of a train parallels her attempts in "Genesis" in which she recorded herself doing various dangerous activities, such as jumping off of a platform, and recorded the subsequent ability to heal from her injuries.

Abilities Development
Sylar: Sylar gains the ability to transmute metal by killing Bob.
Claire: Claire loses the ability to feel any pain from her injuries.
Tracy: Tracy discovers she has the ability to project extreme cold.
Joseph: Joseph has the ability to see and paint the future, similar to Isaac's ability.
Knox: Knox can absorb others' fear and channel it into increased strength for himself.
The German: The German can control magnetic energy and manipulate ferrous objects.
Flint: Flint can project flames to which he is immune.
Jesse Murphy: Jesse has some unspecified form of sound manipulation.
