Dying of the Light - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
At the Angry Skunk Bar, Knox tells Ando to kill Hiro. Hiro agrees, concentrates, and teleports away to a shop to get a fake sword and blood. He then teleports back to the Angry Skunk bar two hours earlier, gives Ando the blood to put underneath his shirt and says to trust him, then teleports back to the present. There Hiro “stabs” Ando and kills him. Knox, says he’s in and leaves, and Daphne confronts Hiro, insisting she’s not a killer. She can’t understand how Hiro could have been a killer. She sends him to Africa to capture Usutu and bring him to Pinehearst. Once Daphne speeds away, Ando gets up and figures they’re even, and Hiro teleports away with him.

Claire tells Sandra that she’s going to go rescue Meredith from Eric Doyle. Sandra approves… and insists on going with her.

At Eric Doyle’s marionette theater, he promises he’s going to make Meredith love him again. She says he disgusts her but he insists that some day they’d be together again. He demonstrates he can control her physically and has her shatter a wine glass, then forces her to put the jagged edge to her throat. He promises her that she’ll love him, and has her put the glass down.

Knox escorts Adam to the Pinehearst Building and tosses him into the room with Arthur Petrelli. Adam thought Arthur was dead and Arthur focuses on him. Adam tries to run in terror but Knox grabs him and forces his hand into Arthur’s. Adam then decays in a matter of seconds into a pile of dust. Arthur sits up, healed.

Daphne goes to the airport with a photo of Matt Parkman. She throws the file away… and Linderman appears behind her to inform her it’d be a mistake to turn down the mission. She insists she’s not a murderer and Linderman notes they can’t continue to help her if she leaves them. Daphne gives in and Linderman points out Matt to her. She goes toward Matt, while Maury watches her from nearby. Matt has his turtle from Africa and hopes he can find Daphne… and sees Daphne approaching him. He introduces himself and she suggests they go somewhere to talk.

Nathan and Tracy arrive at Mohinder’s apartment and ask to come in. He lets them in and they explain that Tracy isn’t Niki, and that Dr. Zimmerman gave her powers, which she demonstrates. Mohinder is intrigued and wants to work with them.

Daphne tells Matt about Pinehearst and suggests they can help him, but he notes that she doesn’t sound very sure. She then asks how he knows her by name and he explains about the prophetic dream he had in Africa, of their future together and the child they have. Unnerved, Daphne leaves him a card and prepares to leave... and he says they named their baby Daniela. Interested, Daphne asks him to stay there until she can get back to him.

Mohinder gives Tracy and Nathan a marker to note unusual DNA. Both of them start to pass out and as Nathan lunges at Mohinder, he collapses in the next room and sees the cocooned victims.

Daphne superspeeds into Level 5 and prepares to release Sylar. However, Sylar insists he isn’t a killer any more and pins her to the wall. She tries to convince him they’re changing him and her employer wants Sylar the way he is. He lets her go and she rescues the other prisoner, Flint, superspeeding away with him. Sylar goes to Peter’s room and releases him from his drug-induced coma. Peter backs away from him and Sylar insists he isn’t going to hurt him and he’s trying to be different. He says he can control his hunger, and so can Peter. Peter admits that Sylar had changed in the future but Sylar doesn’t know how… yet.

Ando and Hiro appear in Africa at Usutu’s hut and find his paintings of the future. Hiro insists they’ll only “borrow” him to get in with the villains and then bring him back. Hiro goes into Usutu’s hut and finds a fresh painting of Usutu hitting him over the head with a shovel… and turns around as Usutu hits him over the head with a shovel.

Outside Doyle’s theater, Claire takes the taser and prepares to go in. Sandra insists on going with her. Inside on the stage, Doyle is dancing with Meredith when he hears the bell of the door. He silences Meredith and goes out to find Sandra in the lobby. She pretends to be booking a birthday party but he hears something in the back. She tries to go but Doyle takes control of her. Meanwhile, Claire has snuck in the back and tries to get Meredith to move without success. Doyle arrives and forces Claire to fire the one shot.

Ando wakes Hiro up and suggests he travel one minute back in time, just like Hiro did to save Ando. Hiro jumps a minute back into the past… and sees a new painting of himself being hit over the head. Usutu hits him over the head again, then hits his original self over the head.

Daphne arrives at Mohinder’s apartment and says that her employers want access to his database. She informs them they already know how to do what he’s doing. Daphne gives him a Pinehearst business card, but then hears someone moaning in the back. She superspeeds back there and finds Nathan, Tracy, and Mohinder’s victims. She confronts Mohinder saying he’s just as bad as the rest, then superspeeds away.

Hiro wakes up and sees himself jump into the past one minute, then confronts Ando and informs him it won’t work. He suggests they try the old fashioned away and hide for him to come back.

Doyle forces Sandra, Meredith, and Claire to play a game of Russian Roulette. He has Claire spin the gun and forces her to choose which mother she’s going to shoot. Doyle realizes that Sandra is Claire’s mother and (falsely) concludes that Meredith is Claire’s aunt. When Claire refuses to choose, he has her point the gun back and forth until it’s aimed at Meredith. Meredith promises Doyle she’ll love him forever, but he doesn’t believe her and forces Claire to pull the trigger. The cylinder is empty, and he has Sandra spin the gun next. It points at Claire, and Doyle forces Sandra to aim at Claire. Claire says that it’s okay and she should pull the trigger. Sandra pulls the trigger until the gun fires, killing Claire. He turns to the others… and Claire gets up and knocks him out from behind.

Peter and Sylar go to see Angela, who is in a coma. Sylar is feeling guilty, believing he should have protected her. He wants Peter to read her mind using Matt’s abilities. Peter telepathically probes her mind and he gets a brief flash of something. He sketches what he saw: a double helix. They both recognize it: Sylar from the business card that Daphne gave him.

Noah arrives at the theater and drugs Doyle. Meredith congratulates Claire and says she got her heart from Sandra. Even Noah is impressed… and Claire stalks off, angry. Sandra goes to talk to her while Meredith tells Noah that Claire doesn’t need either one of them to protect herself. Noah considers taking on a new partner: Meredith.

Sylar tries to convince Peter that he’s too weak yet to go and tries to convince him he needs help. Peter flies him through the hallways into a wall and Sylar telekinetically holds him off. Peter hits him with a lightning bolt then hits him with super strength repeatedly. Once Sylar is unconscious, Peter puts him in his cell and hooks up the drugs.

Mohinder prepares to work on Tracy and Nathan. Tracy tries to get through to him, noting it all got out of control. She suggests that Daphne’s employers can give him answers, and she understands what it’s like to be a monster. She extends her hand to Mohinder: he takes it… and she freezes him. He collapses and Tracy freezes her bonds and frees Nathan. However, Mohinder throws a bench at them and says it’s not over.

Daphne returns to the airport and tells him that she’s supposed to recruit him, but she warns they’re not good people. Matt explains that she’ll die in the future because of her involvement with Pinehearst, but she has no choice but to go back. Matt suggests she listen to her heart, and she says it’s saying for her to keep running so she doesn’t get caught. He offers to protect her but she says he can’t and runs away.

Hiro and Ando are hiding behind some rocks and see Usutu inside his cabin. They go down and take the shovel, then find him sitting by the fire. They approach him and Usutu congratulates him, saying he’s learned how to use his head instead of his powers. Usutu says it was a test and Hiro is now ready. He directs them to a painting showing the double-helix logo belonging to Pinehearst, and images of four of the villains. There’s also a painting of Peter embracing a man.

Peter arrives at Pinehearst and goes inside. Meanwhile, Flint, Daphne, Knox, and Maury meet with Arthur. Peter bursts in and Arthur informs him that Peter is his son. Arthur wants to talk and asks for a hug. They embrace… and Arthur drains him of his life force. A weakened Peter collapses and tries to throw a lightning bolt, and Arthur informs him that he now has Peter’s powers.
