It's Coming - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
In Africa, Arthur attacks Hiro telepathically, grabbing his head. Ando leaps across the sand at him but Arthur casually deflects him away. However, Arthur notices Usutu’s painting of an eclipse on a nearby rock face. He releases Hiro and goes to examine it, and Ando knocks Hiro to the ground. He tells Hiro to use his power and teleport away but Hiro seems confused and doesn’t know what he’s talking about. As Arthur approaches them, Ando closes Hiro’s eyes for him and tells him to concentrate. As Arthur arrives, Hiro thinks of waffles and they teleport to a bowling alley in Tokyo that serves chicken and waffles. They take a seat at a table and Hiro wonders why Ando is so old. He looks at himself in a mirror and wonders why he looks so old. Ando asks him how old he thinks he is and Ando thinks he’s 10.

Sylar is in Arthur’s office as the repairmen fix the window. Arthur teleports in and says it’s hard to believe that Peter survived the fall. Sylar admits he doesn’t understand it either. Arthur takes Sylar down the hallway to show him something and says he’s going to start acting like a father and show Sylar how to harness his empathy and use his power to take someone else’s ability without killing them. When Sylar expresses doubt, Arthur says that he knows that Sylar was empathic enough to save Peter. He escorts Sylar into a poorly-lit room and closes the door behind him. Sylar sees someone chained to the floor: Elle. She looks up and fries him with a lightning bolt.

At Peter’s apartment, Claire tells Peter that they need to get out of there. Peter insists that he can protect himself and is going alone. Knox and Flint pound on the door and Claire tells Peter to escape down the fire escape. She confronts the two men as Peter escapes and they don’t seem to know what she can do. Knox doesn’t sense any fear from her but Flint prepares to throw a fireball. Once she’s delayed them, Claire leaps out the window and falls past Peter, landing in the alleyway several stories before. She regenerates and meets him as they get down. As they run down the alleyway, they see a painting of the Earth splitting in half on the wall. With Knox and Flint closing in, they move a manhole cover and escape into the sewers.

Mohinder is working in his laboratory at Pinehearst and observing a test subject when Arthur comes to check on his progress. Mohinder wonders if it’s impossible to give normal people abilities without debilitating side effects. As they talk, Arthur notices that Mohinder has brought up footage of a solar eclipse on his computer screen. Arthur observes that they share an interest in the subject of eclipses and Mohinder says that he noticed that a number of powers manifested during the last eclipse. However, he believes it’s a coincidence. Mohinder explains that his formula, merged with Pinehearst’s, is sound but there’s a necessary catalyst missing. Arthur tells him to continue conducting research but Mohinder says that the catalyst by necessity would be generated by la living host. Arthur realizes that Kaito knew who the catalyst was and now he’s realized who it is as well. Arthur leaves and the test subject, mutated and deformed, moans in pain.

Sylar regenerates the damage from Elle’s lightning bolt. She curses him, saying he’s the one who killed her father. Sylar admits that it wouldn’t do any good for him to apologize, that there’s nothing he can do to make up for it. He gets to his feet and tells her to take her vengeance on her, and she blasts him again.

Matt and Daphne go to Primatech but find the hallways strangely deserted. As they go down a hallway, Matt sees Usutu at the other end. Matt follows him into Angela’s room but there’s no sign of the shaman. Angela is still in a coma and he tries to scan her mind but gets only scattered images. He says that he needs to help her and Daphne supposedly leaves to find a nurse. However, she superspeeds to Pinehearst and tells Arthur that Matt has found Angela. Arthur says his wife will be fine and Daphne asks if they can keep Matt out of the entire situation. Arthur asks if she wants to go back to the way she was when he found her. Daphne quickly backs down and asks him what he wants her to do. She asks what she should do if Matt tries to help Angela and Arthur says that he’ll deal with it.

As they escape through the sewers, Peter tries to get Claire to leave. He finally explains that the alleyway above was the same one where she shot him in the future. He wants her to stay away from him so she doesn’t become that person but Claire says it’s too late for him to abandon her now. He saved her life and became her friend, and she’s returning the favor. Knox and Flint approach and Claire tells Peter to run. She goes to confront them and says that they can’t have Peter. Knox calls her by name and says that they were sent to recover her, not Peter. He subdues her without harming her and down the passageway, Peter hears her yelling.

At the bowling alley, Hiro eats waffles and Ando tries to explain that everything has happened. Hiro doesn’t take it seriously and starts shooting spitballs at two neighboring girls. Ando tries to get him to freeze time and Hiro reluctantly tries it. Everything in the bowling alleyway slows down momentarily. Hiro tries again and this time everything freezes. He runs around and points the two girls with spitballs at each other, pours ketchup on a man’s chair, ties another man’s shoelaces together, moves several bowling balls in mid-flight, and unscrews the cap on Ando’s salt shaker. He returns to his seat and restarts time, and everything goes off. An unhappy Ando realizes that there’s a lot of work for him to do.

Daphne returns to Primatech as Matt tries to get inside of Angela’s head. He prepares to go all the way inside and Daphne asks if it’s dangerous. Matt explains he’s only done it once before with his father and doesn’t know for sure what will happen. He sits back in the chair and concentrates.

Elle continues to electrocute Sylar, who keeps getting up. He explains that it was the hunger that drove him to kill her father and he doesn’t want to kill anyone. Sylar vows that from now on he won’t kill anyone. Elle continues to electrocute him but starts to run out of energy. She collapses, sobbing, and tells him to kill her. Sylar hesitates and then prepares a telekinetic blast.

Nathan and Tracy go to Pinehearst, a name that Nathan remembers from a cabin where Arthur took his sons fishing. Despite Tracy’s warning, Nathan insists on learning the truth. They go inside and meet with Arthur in his office. Nathan is leery and Arthur talks to Tracy, who he knows by name. Nathan demands answers, saying that Arthur has destroyed their family. Arthur admits that he should have explained Nathan’s role to him. He asks Tracy to step outside and then talks about how everything that has happened in the last two weeks is part of Nathan’s destiny. Nathan doesn’t believe it, saying the last time they tried to destroy New York City. Arthur says this time the destruction is already coming and he needs the formula to stop it. He also needs Nathan, insisting that together they can save the world.

Sylar telekinetically frees Elle but she still begs him to kill her just so she can stop feeling the pain of having failed her father. Sylar consoles, her saying that her father made her a monster and his mother did the same to her. He says that it was Elle that saved him but she admits that it was all a trick to force him to demonstrate his powers. Looking her in the eye, Sylar says that he forgives her… and that she needs to forgive itself. She does so and realizes that the pain is gone… and Nathan’s hands glow with electricity.

Peter goes back for Knox and Flint, saying that he’s going to defeat them so they can give Claire up or die. Knox is unimpressed, but the villains are unaware that Peter has opened a gas pipe. Peter taunts Flint into throwing a fireball, which ignites the gas and blows the villains back. Peter grabs Claire and runs.

Sylar and Elle are talking and Elle thanks him for doing something nobody else has ever done for her before. They exchange arcs of electricity on their outstretched hands and he has some trouble. Elle offers to show him how it’s done and guides his aim, holding onto his arm. Arthur, satisfied, watches them on a monitor.

At the bowling alley, Ando tries to explain to Hiro how he can teleport. Hiro quickly gets the hang of it and teleports around the alley. Ando said he needs to learn how to teleport both of them and suggests they go to Odessa, Texas. Hiro takes Ando’s hand and teleports, but to a comic book store in Tokyo.

Nathan leaves Pinehearst, refusing to agree to his father’s plan. Tracy suggests that as a Senator he snap out of it and he needs to take down Arthur. She suggests they go to the Department of Justice but Nathan warns that the last time he tried something, Peter’s future self came back to shoot him. Finally Nathan says he’s flying to Primatech to check on Angela and tells Tracy to check up on things with her government contacts. Once he’s gone, Tracy goes back into the building and visits Nathan. She says they need to work together: she can help put Nathan into place and Arthur backs her. Tracy notes that Peter is on the fence and she can bring him around to Arthur’s point of view.

Daphne watches over Matt’s comatose body as he finds himself in a mindscape of Pinehearst with Angela handcuffed to a chair. He tries to free her without success, then go for help but the doors are locked. Angela warns him that Arthur is too dangerous. Daphne comes in and says she’s there to help. They hug, but “Daphne” then stabs him in the chest with a knife. In the real world, Daphne sees Matt start to bleed. She calls to Matt saying for him to bring her in with him. She appears in his mind but he backs away, mistaking her for the image of Daphne. The imaginary Daphne appears with the knife, covered in blood, and Arthur appears to inform Matt that the real Daphne betrayed him. Daphne admits it’s true but she didn’t have a choice. However, she cares for Matt and didn’t want to see him killed either. She warns that if Matt doesn’t wake up, Arthur will kill him. Matt considers what she’s said and then embraces her. Angela asks her husband if he remembers what it was like to love like that. She says that a part of him still does love her, and that’s the part that’s going to release her. Arthur concentrates and the handcuffs fall off of Angela. She, Matt, and Daphne wakes up back in the real world, Matt’s injury gone.

Matt goes to find a doctor and finds Peter and Claire in the hallway. He attacks Peter for betraying him and sending him to the desert, while Peter tries to warn him against Daphne. He lets Matt scan his mind to verify the truth about his future self.

Mohinder is recording the results of his serum on the test subject. The man begs for death and Mohinder considers for a few moments, and then gives him a new injection.

Hiro is reading comic books and is astonished at everything that’s happened over the years. He spots himself on a cover of 9th Wonders and picks it up, and Ando explains that it was drawn by Isaac and shows the future. The current issue shows Arthur attacking Hiro, which Hiro doesn’t remember. The next page shows Hiro and Ando discussing the comic book and Hiro accepts that Ando is telling the truth. They turn to the last page, which shows an eclipse and the words “It’s coming.”

Nathan arrives to see Angela and everyone assembles in the room. Angela explains that there’s a third part to the formula and Kaito hid it away in the body of a human. Matt figures they don’t need to find the host: they just need to keep Arthur from doing so. However, Claire realize that when Sylar was examining her brain and noted that she was “special,” he saw that she was the catalyst.

Knox, Flint, Tracy, Sylar, and Elle all gather around Arthur. He’s in a precognitive trance and drawing a sketch of the eclipse. He looks up and says “It’s coming.”
