<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
At Pinehearst, Nathan confronts Peter as he stands over their father Arthur's corpse, gun in hand. Nathan figures that Peter killed their father but Peter says that Sylar did it. Peter notes that it had to end with Arthur's death and now they have to destroy the formula. Nathan informs him that it's too late: the Marines have already received injections. He warns Peter not to get in the way because he plans to carry out Arthur's plan and asks him to choose a side. Peter starts to give up his gun, but punches Nathan unconscious instead and leaves.

Noah, Claire, Angela, and Meredith are at the Primatech facility and arm themselves. Checking out the darkened hallways, they find dead security guards everywhere. The shutters over the windows clang shut: Sylar is in the security room activating the emergency shutdown. He informs them over the loudspeakers that he has disposed of Arthur once and for all. Sylar says they all see him as a monster but he plans to prove that they're all just like him. Noah leads the others to the security room and Claire explains that she and Sylar can be killed by damage to the brain. They split up, with Claire and Angela going to the office. Noah and Meredith break into the security room only to discover that Sylar is gone and has left only a dead security guard. Sylar informs them over the loudspeaker that they're not hunting him: he's hunting them.

In the past, 16 years ago on the Deveaux rooftop, Hiro hangs from a flagpole, having grabbed it and saved himself after Arthur telekinetically threw him off the roof.

In the present, Matt, Daphne, and Ando go to Mohinder's New York City laboratory. Ando thinks it's his destiny to take the formula and gain Hiro's power so he can rescue his friend. Daphne figures the formula is at Pinehearst and she's the only one who can get it in time. She superspeeds off before Matt can stop her.

At his laboratory in Pinehearst, Mohinder is recording a journal and notes that the mutation has spread to his lungs, and that he needs the formula to cure himself. As he prepares to inject himself, Peter comes in and says they have to destroy the formula. Mohinder says he needs it but Daphne superspeeds in and steals it, then escapes as quickly as she came. Mohinder figures Peter is responsible and attacks him. Knox and Flint arrive and Flint grabs Mohinder. The two men want to destroy the formula so no one else can gain powers and threaten them, and figure Peter is on their side. Flint holds Mohinder while Knox starts destroying the laboratory. Mohinder points out that Peter's new allies are criminals and Nathan is planning to use the formula for good. Peter points out that Nathan isn't in charge.

The Marine, Scott, wakes up Nathan and explains that he's the only one who has received a formula injection. Tracy sent him to check on Nathan when he didn't return. Knox slips in and breaks Scott's neck before the latter knows what's happening. He then informs Nathan that he's working with Peter to destroy the formula and they're going to wait until Peter is finished.

Daphne returns with the formula and Matt warns that there's no guarantee Ando will get Hiro's space/time powers. However, Daphne notes that she wanted to run and gained superspeed. Matt worried about what others thought of him and gained the power to read minds. Before they can debate the matter further, Ando grabs the formula and injects himself, and then collapses.

In the past, Hiro climbs back up to the rooftop and goes to find his younger self. Young Hiro is holding the healed dove and mourning his dead mother. Hiro admits he failed and asks Young Hiro for help finding the safe with the formula. When Young Hiro hesitates, Hiro asks him what his mother would say, then promises he can save tomorrow. Convinced, Young Hiro agrees to help him.

Claire discovers the phone lines are dead and Angela tells her that she's just giving the Sylar the attention he wants. Sylar calls and tells Claire that she can walk out with Noah and Meredith if she kills Angela. Claire refuses and Sylar suggests she kill Noah. He points out that Noah made him a monster. Claire vows to kill him and Sylar notes that she's become a stone-cold killer. He asks who the monster is and she affirms that he is.

Noah and Meredith go to Level 5 and release the prisoners: Eric Doyle, Danny Pine, and Echo DeMille. He tells them that he'll let whoever kills Sylar go free. Doyle wonders why they should help and Noah points out that Sylar isn't going to let anyone leave so they have no choice. The prisoners start hunting for Sylar and Meredith wonders what Noah is up to. Noah explains that the prisoners are the bait for his trap.

As Peter wrecks the laboratory, Mohinder warns that the formula is highly flammable. Flint slams Mohinder into a wall, stunning him, and then helps Peter with the destruction. Peter checks on Mohinder to make sure he's okay.

Matt wakes up Ando, who tries to use Hiro's abilities. He doesn't have any luck and slams his hang down on a table. His hand glows red.

Meredith and Noah split up and Meredith finds Danny Pine's severed metallic arm. Sylar appears behind her and tells her that adrenaline can kick-start a dead heart. He telekinetically disarms Meredith but then freezes: Doyle has taken control of his body. Doyle briefly caresses Meredith, saying that she's his, not Sylar's, to do with what he wants. Sylar focuses his telekinesis and scrambles Doyle's brain. Doyle bleeds from the nose and then falls to the ground. Meredith goes for her discarded gun but Sylar injects her with adrenaline. As she collapses, shaken, Sylar says he has one more thing to do.

Noah returns to Level 5 and finds Echo DeMille, his throat cut. He also finds Meredith in a reinforced cell, burning out of control. He goes in to help her, setting down his gun. Sylar sneaks up and removes all but one bullet, then closes the cell door. He tells Noah he's going to need the one remaining bullet to save himself, and asks what Claire will say when she learns that Noah killed her biological mother. He says he's returning the favor for Noah turning him into a monster and departs.

Nathan is seated playing with a glass paperweight, and warns Knox that all Peter does is disappoint anyone who believes in him. Knox wonders why Nathan is afraid, but Nathan insists he isn't afraid of anyone. He lures Knox in and clubs him with the paperweight. They struggle briefly but Knox wins and prepares to kill Nathan... until Tracy moves in behind him and freezes him solid. He topples over and shatters to pieces.

Ando is struggling to control his powers. Matt tries to restrain him and the red glow envelops him. Suddenly Matt can hear the thoughts of everyone in New York City. Daphne touches Ando and suddenly speeds away faster than ever before. She discovers that she's on the balcony of the room a few seconds ago, watching herself touch Ando and disappear. She steps forward and explains what happened, and they figure that she moved fast enough to travel through time.

Sylar sends the image from Meredith's cell to Claire and Angela in the study. Claire insists on going to help despite Angela's warnings that it's a trap. As they move through the hallways, Sylar pulls Angela away and then approaches Claire. He asks her why she still wants to help her adopted father after the many times he ignored her. Claire runs to the cell and discovers that the keypad has been ripped out. Noah instructs Meredith to focus all of her heat on the glass. The glass superheats and Noah shoots his one bullet at it. Claire throws herself at the glass, breaking through. After pulling the pieces of glass out of her body, she tells Meredith to come with them. Meredith tells Claire and Noah to go after Sylar, but Claire promises she'll come back for her mother.

Tracy tells Nathan that so far he hasn't been tied to what's going on but he can't get caught there. She says they should find the formula and escape, and he hired her because she's a realist. Nathan tells her she's fired and heads for Mohinder's laboratory.

Matt figures out that Ando has gained the ability to supercharge other persons' abilities. Daphne tells Ando to supercharge her and then she takes him along as she superspeeds into the past.

Young Hiro leads Hiro to Kaito's safe. Hiro gets it open and recovers the complete formula. Kaito comes in and demands to know what they're doing. He doesn’t believe Hiro's explanation that they were playing and stumbled across the safe. Kaito sends a reluctant Young Hiro away and then grabs a katana. He accuses Hiro of being a thief and demands to know who he is. He comes after Hiro who quickly runs out of room to dodge. Kaito gives him one more chance to explain and Hiro says that he has to destroy the formula so it can't be used in the future. He rips the paper in half but before he can go further, Daphne arrives and takes him away at superspeed. Kaito considers the two halves of the formula.

Daphne, Hiro, and Ando return to the present and Ando explains to his friend what's happened. Daphne says she knows where the formula is and Hiro asks her to take him there. Matt tells her to go and make up for her past and she takes Hiro to Pinehearst.

Tracy has recovered the formula from Arthur's safe when Daphne and Hiro arrive. Hiro demands the formula but Tracy tries to walk past him. Hiro apologizes and punches her in the face, then takes the formula.

Peter and Flint knock over the main vat of the formula, which pours over Mohinder. As he wakes up, his mutated skin heals itself. Flint prepares to ignite the fluid but Peter wants to get everyone to safety first. Flint doesn't care but Nathan arrives and hits him over the head. He attacks Peter with a piece of pipe, while Flint wakes up and ignites the formula. Peter grabs a syringe of the formula and injects himself. As the lab starts to blow up, Peter regains his borrowed ability to fly, grabs Nathan, and flies with him out the window just as the building goes up in flames.

Sylar ties Angela up in the office and she says he's a hero for killing her husband: now there's no one left to use him for their own purposes. Sylar asks if she's her mother and she claims he is, but he uses his acquired lie detection to determine she's lying. She admits she's not his mother and he says that for a moment he wished she was. He demands an explanation and she lies, claiming that she wanted a son who wasn't a disappointment that she could give her love to. Finally she explains that she simply saw him as someone to manipulate into working for the Company and doing whatever she needed done, and that she's a monster too. Sylar starts to choke her but she warns that if she dies, he'll never learn who his real parents are. He demands answers, but Claire comes up behind him and drives a piece of glass into the back of his skull. Noah is behind her and says they need to leave. She goes to see Meredith while Noah gets Angela out. Meredith is burning out of control and tells Claire to get out. Noah arrives and gets his daughter out as the Pinehearst facility bursts into flames.

Peter lands with Nathan in a clearing, and Nathan asks why Peter saved him. Peter says that he loves Nathan, but Nathan says he wouldn't have done the same. Nathan flies off into the sky.

Mohinder, now cured, is walking down the highway when Tracy pulls over in a car and picks him up.

At Mohinder's laboratory, Hiro destroys the formula then bows to Ando who bows back. Matt and Daphne embrace, and Matt looks up to see Usutu, looking on in satisfaction.

Claire, Noah, and Angela watch Pinehearst burn to the ground.

Volume 4: Three Weeks Later

Nathan is in Washington D.C., meeting with an African-American in a limousine. Nathan gives the man files on people with abilities, including Tracy, Micah, Mohinder, and Hiro, and warns that's only the tip of the iceberg. Nathan wants to put every one of them into a facility to make sure they don't hurt anyone. The other man agrees and Nathan says, "Thank you, Mr. President."
