Horatio confronts the different attitudes of Irishmen in the Royal Navy. One is openly antagonistic to the crown, one is loyal as Hornblower himself, and another seemingly loyal career officer reveals himself to have been working for Bonaparte all along. In contrast to the Irish, he must also deal with an Anti-Bonapartist Frenchman.

Episode Quotes

Hornblower: Wait, Matthews, Styles.
Matthews: Captain Hornblower, it’s good to see you back in command, sir!
Bush: Well, we can always find a place for Matthews.

Bush: (to Midshipman Hammond) As Midshipman, I expect you to know this ship like the back of your hand, or else you shall know the back of mine.

Pellew: Thank God not all Frenchmen worship that Corsican upstart! Eh?

Hornblower: Wolfe, why must you speak when you have nothing to say?

Styles: I’m just boiling the coffee now, sir. I’ll go fetch it.
Bush: But... coffee shouldn’t be…
Hornblower: Boiled, William? I know, I know.

Midshipman Hamond: I’ll have you know, Matthews, I don’t much care for your tone.
Matthews: Well, sir. I must say, I don’t give a tinker’s cuss what you care for.
