Meet the Parents - Recap

The scene opens with Victoria, Joy and Melanie getting back from the Farmer’s Market and Elka tells that she invited Melanie’s mother for a visit. Melanie is devastated because of the fact that her mother is over protective. Tori tells that her father is self absorbed with himself and needs all the attention to be on him. She shows that the trait rubbed off on her as she interrupts everyone. Elka tells that the last words her father and she had were “Is that gun loaded?” And then BAM heart attack! She tells the girls that their parents aren’t going to be around forever. Melanie suggests that Joy and Tori invite their mom and dad and Joy tells that America was a place her mother would never set foot in and that is why she moved to America. Tori tells that she could invite her dad but warns everyone because he hits on anything that moves. Elka likes him already.

Tori’s dad, Alex, arrives and talks about his career and proves that he truly is absorbed with himself like Tori said. There is a drilling sound and Melanie tells that her mom, Loretta, is installing a dead bolt. Alex talks about a time when he invited Tori’s Sorority Sisters to his dressing room after a performance. Joy is happy that her mother is not there to criticize her or embarrass her. Loretta gives Melanie a gift of Sunscreen and a new rape whistle and asks if Melanie still has a problem with her irritable bowels. Joy starts laughing. Loretta tells that Melanie’s sister called her “Smellanie” and Alex tells that people used to call Victoria “Sticktoria”. Joy starts laughing hysterically and then stops and says that she got a chill and Elka tells that Joy’s mother is her new internet buddy and has her on the webcam.

Melanie, Tori, and Joy escape to the porch swing and Tori tells that she joined acting so that she could get some attention. Melanie tells that she feels that she was raised as veal with her mother always treated her like a baby. Tori tells that it is better then being raised by a hand trying to have sex with everyone of your friends. Tori and Melanie want to tell their parents off and Joy tells that whenever anyone in Britain has a dispute with their parents, they follow a tradition passed down from one generation to another. They get really drunk. Joy enters to get the wine, and Elka announces that Joy is there. Joy talks to her mother a little bit and closes the computer when she starts to criticize again. Alex “helps” Joy with the wine and Tori walks in. She is upset and Joy runs out on the patio. Joy opens the wine when Loretta tells that she doesn’t want to go out to eat because it is getting dark. Melanie yells and tells her to take a risk and to not treat her like a baby. Joy tells that she is going to take the wine and go.

At the restaurant Tori tells Melanie that she told off her father and said that she told him that she is tired of him hitting on her friends and told him to date women his own age. Melanie tells that she yelled at her mom and told her to take risks. Joy comes up and has food. She tells that she drank the whole bottle of wine instead of telling her mother off and not have to see the sad look on her face. Tori and Melanie feel bad that they yelled at their parents and tell that they are going to apologize to them. Melanie asks where Joy got the food and she tells that it is free hamburger night and Tori tells that there is no such thing. Jo sees a bite taken out of the hamburger and realizes that it is not hamburger night.

Back at the house, Melanie enters her Loretta’s room and attempts to apologize and give her a hug and sits on the bed. She notices a lump in the bed and thinks it is a leg. Alex pops from underneath the covers and Melanie is appalled because Loretta is married. Loretta tells that Melanie told her to take a risk and Melanie leaves. Tori tells that she was going to apologize. Elka enters and tells Joy’s mother that she was right. Alex sees her on the computer and attempts to flirt and Tori is appauled that he is flirting with a women while he is in another woman’s bed. The girls leave.

The girls sit down in the living room and Joy’s mother tells Joy that her and Elka had a fight because she told that Joy wasn’t that bright and she tells Joy that she is very bright, she is just lazy. Loretta and Alex come down and Joy leaves to give them privacy. Loretta feels bad about her behavior. Melanie tells that they are all adults and that she can be honest. Loretta tells that she and her husband have not had sex for a while and that she has needs. They make up and Tori finds out that her dad did watch her show and Loretta tells that she will take risks. Joy’s mother says that Americans are saps and Joy and her make up. Joy’s Mother asks if Joy is as drunk as she is. Elka is up late bedazzling her track suit and Alex comes in and puts on his charm. Elka tells that she is not like the other girls and can resist his charm. He apologizes and backs away but Elka says, “I didn’t say stop!”
