At a planetarium, a class of seniors listens to Mr. Damon, their teacher, give a presentation about the evolution of life in the universe. Nick and Abby are seated in the back and drinking vodka out of a thermos. Abby plans to be going to a distant college, and Nick doesn't want them to separate. After Damon calls on Nick to answer a college, Nick turns back to Abby to discover that she's unconscious and bleeding from the mouth.
Wilson discovers House eating on the couch and suggests he might buy a table. House points out that Wilson should do it and that he's never furnished a home. He figures that Wilson is afraid to admit he has no internal feelings and buying furniture would demonstrate that. Wilson simply leaves.
At the hospital, House arrives as the team reviews the pulmonary edema that led to Abby's bleeding. He figure that Cuddy made them take the case because she has a soft spot for smart girls. When House notices that Taub is gone, he figures that Taub is having a fight with his wife Rachel. Chase claims that Taub had a flat tire and is running late, but House doesn't believe it. He figures that Abby is a heavy drinker and orders MRI testing, and tells them to get Taub in there.
Taub is at home arguing with Rachel about couples yoga. She wants them to do things together and Taub gives in, but she quickly back tracks and tells him to go to work and forget it. Taub goes to the hospital and meets Nick and his father Artie, who wants to know about Abby. He suggests that Abby's drinking damaged her heart, but Nick insists that Abby doesn't drink. He asks Taub to tell Abby that he loves her.
Taub comes into the MRI and explains about the argument, and then asks Chase for marriage advice. Chase notes he's not the best guy to provide marital advice, and then spots a spot on Abby's mitral valve. While Foreman and the others discuss the case, House asks Taub about his fight with his wife, and Taub still denies it. Hadley suggests a transesophageal echo to get a better idea, and House agrees since they've got nothing better. As Hadley and Taub run the echo, Hadley wonders why he's bothering to lie to House. Taub doesn't want to get into it with House, but Hadley explains that Rachel thinks Taub is cheating on her. Taub insists he isn't, but there's no way to prove a negative. Abby starts to dissect and they take her to the OR as her heart ruptures. The cut her open and manage to start her heart back up.
Taub reports there were no structural faults in the valve, and Foreman has to admit that he was wrong. Hadley suggests an allergy but Chase notes that she would be getting better in the hospital... unless it was inside her. Hadley and Taub ask Nick for a sperm sample so they can determine if Abby is allergic to his sperm. He admits that he didn't use a condom every time. Chase places a sample of the sperm protein on Abby's skin, while Abby tells her mother that she's been having sex. Abby suddenly starts suffering stomach pains as her kidneys shut down.
Back in differential, the team eliminates syphilis and blood clotting, and Foreman suggests a full-body scan. House reluctantly agrees and Taub and Foreman run the test. Taub wonders how he can prove he didn't cheat, but Foreman notes that at least she cares. Taub wants her to be happy.
House comes home and discovers that the condo is now fully furnished. When Wilson comes in, House notes that he worked quickly and walks away.
In the test chamber, Abby suddenly hallucinates a black hole ripping apart the room and pulling out the walls. The girl clutches at the walls of the chambers but is sucked into the black hole. Foreman and Taub realize that she's hallucinating.
Back in differential, the team tries to resolve the contradictory symptoms. Taub is busy texting Rachel at the grocery store and playing sex games. House notices and takes the phone away, sees what he's doing, and adds the last few comments himself. House warns that Taub won't prove Rachel can trust him. He then goes on to suggest that Abby's hallucination is a diagnostic tool and her subconscious is trying to tell them something. House proposes they use a cognitive pattern recognition program to analyze her thoughts. The team doesn't believe it's useful tool and House tells them to do a MRA, but warns that it won't accomplish anything.
Wilson returns home from jogging and discovers that all the furniture is gone. He goes to confront House, who admits he sent it back because Wilson only rented it. House dares Wilson to go to a furniture store on his own and find one thing he likes.
Abby wakes up to find Nick at her bedside and asks him to stay. He promises that he isn't going anywhere and then kisses her. Foreman and Taub arrive as Abby stars to hallucinate that her spirit is leaving her body. She then sees a young version of herself, who tells her to reveal her secret, and that she deserves to die. Meanwhile, Nick proposes to her but Abby goes into convulsions as she imagines her younger self grabbing her arm.
Back in differential, House wants to pursue the out-of-body experience that Abby experienced. Foreman is skeptical and Chase warns it will take several hours to set up, but House notes that it's he only shot they have. As they go, Rachel arrives at her husband's invitation and Taub tells her that he has a surprise.
Foreman explains the process to Abby and her mother, and how it will give them a clue to what her brain is trying to tell them. He admits that they have nothing else they can do.
Taub and his wife make out in a car in the parking lot. She starts to wonder where he got the idea and wonders if he's done it before. As he insists he wants her to trust him, House interrupts and tells Taub to get inside and watch the procedure.
For the first stage of the pattern recognition, the team monitors Abby's conscious thoughts. She is able to create a specific image, much to everyone's surprise. Only Foreman remains unimpressed.
Wilson goes furniture buying without much luck. The best he can do is inadvertently choose patio furniture, impressing a clerk with his daring.
The team monitors Abby's unconscious thoughts and House realizes they're seeing the sky and the stars. Next, they see an image that appears to be her father, who died in an unrelated plane crash when she was eight. They get nothing useful out of it. Hadley suggests a liver problem, but it won't account for the aortic dissection. Foreman suggests that the pineal gland is calcified and possibly obscuring a tumor. House orders an echo MRI to confirm.
Wilson goes to see Cuddy and explain that he's having problems picking out furniture. She notes that the fact that he's letting House force him to buy furniture says more about him then his buying furniture, and gives him the number of her interior decorator.
House is reviewing the images from Abby's mind when Foreman tells him that there's no sign of tumors but heightened isoenzymes that suggest an allergic reaction. He suggests there's a Middle Eastern parasite that might account for the symptoms, but Abby hasn't been anywhere near the Middle East. House angrily admits that there may be nothing they can do.
As House goes over all test data, Taub comes in to say he's leaving for the night. House asks if he's having an affair, and if it bothers him that House can ask the question but Rachel won't. House suggests that Taub wants to have an affair and has only changed his mind because he's old enough to be his mistress' father. Then he gets an idea and wonders if Nick's father, Artie, travels extensively. He goes to see Artie and confirms that he travels in the Middle East. House explains that Artie infected Abby with a parasite. Her body killed the parasite but the shell remained, undeletable. It caused an allergic reaction and that's what is killing Abby. However, House notes that it could only have been passed on is sexually. He needs Artie to admit that he had sex with Abby so he can authorize a cure. When Nick comes out, Artie finally admits that he had an affair with Abby after she temporarily broke up with Nick. Nick walks away, angry.
House comes home and finds the condo, furnished in style. He instantly figures that Wilson ordered a decorator and says that Wilson can't let other people define him. However, then he notices a covered object. Removing the cover, he discovers a Wurlitzer organ and notes that he likes what it says about Wilson.
Chase performs surgery on Abby, curing her.
Artie tries to explain to Nick, but Nick refuses to listen.
Taub looks at his wedding photos. When Rachel comes in, they reminisce about their wedding and then he proposes to her, saying he wants a second chance to do things right. She accepts.
Nick goes in to see Abby as House and Taub watch. Taub tells his boss that Abby told Nick that she still loves him, and that he bought it. House deduces that Taub proposed to Rachel again. He congratulates Taub. He walks away, chatting with a young, attractive nurse, as House watches.
