House: Unwritten

A children's novelist tries to kill herself, but is thwarted when she has a seizure. House, a fan of the books, puts her on psych hold but has to deal with a patient that is eager to die rather than be cured. Meanwhile, House worries that he'll lose Cuddy because they have nothing in common.

Recap

Author Alice Tanner is in her study, desperately typing the last Jack Cannon: Boy Detective novel. Jack Cannon himself watches her as she finishes, and asks how it ends. She refuses to let him read it, and says that there won't be a next book. She locks the manuscript in her safe and tells him that he wouldn't understand. Alice caresses the scar on Jack's left cheek and says she can't do it any more, and then takes out a gun and prepares to shoot herself. Jack says he'll stop her, but Alice points out that he doesn't exist. As he disappears, Alice prepares to shoot herself, but has a seizure. The gun goes off, but only grazes her cheek. The maid, Christina, comes in and realizes that her employer is ill...

Episode Quotes
Dr. House: Which of these says "I want to sleep with you" more? Penguin or beaver? Beaver. Beaver. Beaver. You're right. It's too high school.

Dr. Foreman: So we're taking this case 'cause you're a fan?
Dr. House: No, that would be crazy and unprofessional. We're taking this case 'cause I said so.

Dr. Cuddy: What's behind your back?
Dr. House: Peace penguin.
Dr. Cuddy: What room should I return it to?
Dr. House: 243. I need some help with Alice Tanner. She wants a vagina.
Dr. Cuddy: I'm pretty attached to mine. I told you to hire a temporary replacement for Thirteen two weeks ago.
Dr. House: I've been busy.
Dr. Cuddy: Doing what?
Dr. House: You.

Dr. Wilson: Huh. This is actually good, House. She's committing crimes. What does that tell you?
Dr. House: I'm a horrible influence.
Dr. Wilson: True. A horrible influence she's reaching out to. She's looking for ways to connect. Sure, they're self-destructive, juvenile, and insane, but so are you.

Alice Tanner: Why do you care about me? You think you know me because you read my books?
Dr. House: No. I know pain. You think you can handle it and one day you can't. And when that happens, you either find reason to go on, or you don't.

Sam Carr: I drove across town to treat a ribbon?
Dr. House: That's why I prefer lying. It makes things easier.

Dr. Cuddy: You used a $3 million piece of hospital equipment so you could read a novel?
Dr. House: Cool, right?
Dr. Cuddy: Well, as your girlfriend, I'm impressed. As your boss, you're a jackass. Don't do it again.
Dr. House: As your boyfriend, I thank you. As your employee, I resent you because I need this for my case.
Dr. Cuddy: As your boss, you just got six more clinic hours next week.

Go-Cart Attendant: Are we ready, racers? On your marks, get set... and go away.

Dr. Cuddy: What is her problem?
Dr. House: She hates Jews!
Dr. Cuddy: Never... again.

Dr. Cuddy: I'm not gonna dump you because we like different food or books or music. On the other hand, I might dump you if you don't talk to me when you have a problem with our relationship.
Dr. House: I know you believe that now, but the fact is...
Dr. Cuddy: Who cares about common? Common is boring. I like being with you. You make me better. Hopefully, I make you better. What we have is... uncommon, and I've never been happier.

Cultural References
Dr. House: Now don't you say that, you dirty birdie.

This expression is used regularly by Annie Wilkes in Stephen King's novel Misery and the movie adaptation in 1990. She is usually talking to author Paul Sheldon, who has decided to quit writing Misery novels.
