Brad and Robin are attending a New York Rangers game where Robin is wearing a Vancouver Canucks jersey. This is the third reference to Robin (Cobie Smulders) hometown National Hockey League team. The previous two references were in the episodes "Intervention" and "The Platinum Rule"

When giving Ted the hat and whip, Marshall says that they once belonged to his favorite professor: Indiana Jones who was a professor of archaeology in the four Indiana Jones movies, starring Harrison Ford in the title role.
