The crew got a phone call while they were at the bar. They are told that Woody Allen is at a steakhouse a great deal away from them in Manhattan. They decide that they all have better ideas as to how they are going to get to the steakhouse after having made fun of Robin for not being enough of a New Yorker. They think she's not as much as a New Yorker as they are because they've all seen Woody Allen. She defends herself by saying that she has seen Maury Povich, but the rest of them have seen him a million times so they think it doesn't count.
There are a few other things she is going to need to do when it comes to being a legitimate New Yorker. She is going to need to steal a cab from someone, cry on the train while not giving a care, and she also has to kill a cockroach with her actual naked hand. After they all talk about how they'll get to Gregor's they all disagree and decide to turn it into a competition. Marshall thinks that he can run all the way there which is seven miles. Barney thinks that he can sit down, have a steak, and still get there before the rest of them. Lily thinks that the subway is the best bet.
Most of the crew need a win for many reasons. Lily and Marshall are both having issues getting pregnant and it's been two months. This is driving them crazy in their own separate ways and they feel like they need to win this because they already feel insecure enough. She jumps into the train as if it is about to leave, there Maury Povich is calling her an idiot since she really didn't need to dive in there.
Ted takes the bus and has a fairly bad experience with that as he just wanted to talk about architecture the whole time. So, he is considered to be the crazy one on the bus since people are either falling asleep or running away from him no matter the reason they are on that bus. In fact, at one point the whole bus is on the opposite side of him so that he doesn't keep trying to tell them about his boring interests. So, he learns that when you're not sure who the crazy person is on the bus it is often times you. He definitely was the crazy one on the bus. He even tried to talk to the bus driver about the sweet buildings all around him but he slammed the breaks and knocked Ted on his butt.
Barney gets to place to eat a steak. His whole plan is to fake a choking so that he can take a hospital to a particular hospital, but they have to take him to the closest and that is not where he wants to be. He calls Ranjit and has him come get him. He sees Robin (or a hot chick, depending on whether or not he knew she was her when he called her in...he acts surprised) and invites her to hop in with him. She kind of loses it on him because she was trying to talk to him about the things she has been going through with her life such as losing her boyfriend and whatnot. He tries to tell her that if she needs to talk that she absolutely should, but she runs out of the limo and they drive right past Marshall who looks like he's about to die.
They get to the middle and they're all amazed how they met up at the same time. Robin becomes a pure New Yorker by crying on the subway, kills a cockroach with her barehands, steals a cab, amongst many other things. Lily gets Ranjit once he is done with Barney and then they pick up Marshall. They talk about how they have been feeling insecure about not being able to get pregnant. They decide to take their time and that they'll be able to do all of these amazing things before they do get pregnant. They decide to go to Coney Island instead of meeting up with the rest of the gang.
Robin, Barney, and Ted get to the steak shop. Woody Allen turns out to be Maury Povich and Robin has what looks to be a impromptu date with the guy that had originally called her and told her that Woody Allen was there.
