Ted tells his children that in the fall of 2011, all of his friends were in relationships. So, when Barney's brother visited, there were some logistical issues. Nora excuses herself to the bathroom, claiming it's so she can have her own seat since they really do need a bigger booth at this point. Barney tells the crew that Nora is going to finally let him have sex with her, based on the fact that she told him that she has a special treat for him tonight. In the flashback, he air guitars ala Bill and Ted. She tells him that she hopes he's ready for tonight, because he's going to be using muscles that he doesn't know he has yet and she hopes he'll have aspirin, because his bum is going to be killing him tomorrow night. This perplexes the crew, as well as Barney. She tells him that they are going ice skating and then she tells him that after that, they are going to shag. This makes Barney very happy.
Barney's brother does not like Nora. Robin asks what he could possibly not like Nora and then lists several reasons slightly jealously. He tells them that everything about Nora is vaguely like their mom. British accent, the way she hugs him, and she calls him sweet boy and offers “special treats”. When his brother sees them kiss, he ends up envisioning his mother kissing him. Kevin says that psychologically, it is normal to fall for someone like their parents. In fact, he will probably marry someone that loves his brother more than him.
Lily is not feeling sexy and Marshall is having a horrible time at making her feel differently. She tells him that she's not going to have sex until the baby is born. Ted and Robin talk about Kevin and apparently he was just standing there in his boxers. When Robin walks away, Marshall tells asks Ted if he'd “bang Lily”.
Barney is at the ice skating rink and Nora falls, knocking out a tooth, and instead of ending the night; Barney believes he can turn this evening around. He takes her to an on-call dentist for a tooth replacement and asks if she wants to go to the bar again. She says no, that tonight has been a disaster. She wants to just call it a night and he convinces her to go for one more drink. She then ends up with a rat ON her head. He still believes he can turn this around.
Robin goes to Kevin to tell him to keep his pants on in the public area of the apartment. Kevin tells her since Ted is complaining, he may as well tell her about Ted's nuts. He walks around in an open robe and he's naked underneath. Turns out, it made Kevin spill his coffee on his pants and he HAD to take his pants off or he would end up badly burned. She tells him “so what, it's his apartment” and she convinces him to be nice to him.
Marshall has created a game to make her feel sexy. He calls it Chutes and Lily's. She considers what Kevin said earlier and then realizes that there is one other man that is as obsessed with boardgames as Marshall is—her father. She panics. She can't do anything with him, because she keeps seeing her father's face on his instead.
Nora just wants to go home, take a hot bath, and go to bed. Barney tells her that he'll draw her a bath, give her some champagne, and they can relax into the night together. When they are about to kiss, a man jumps off the roof. Marshall has made a bubble bath with rose petals. He offers a sensual backrub and she still keeps thinking about her father, being grossed out.
Ted has Kevin and Robin watching a coin collecting documentary. She is giving Ted a massage and asks him if he found someone to go to the concert yet. He says no and asks if she wants to go. She says yes and he says “okay cool, it's a date”. Instead of being rational, Kevin says “ah, hell no. If you can go on a date with my girlfriend, I don't have to wear pants in your apartment” and unbuckles his pants, dropping them to the ground.
Lily breaks down and tells Marshall that ever since Kevin said what he said, she has been picturing him as her dad. He believes that theory is bogus, because his mother is the complete opposite of Lily. She's happy with this response. Then he thinks about it more and realizes that she's more like his father, which messes him up greatly.
Nora and Barney sit on his coach and he is upset, because the night is ruined. She says that the night has been rough, but they can turn it around. She then sings A Few of My Favorite Things, this reminds him of his mother and he gets completely weirded out. Lily tries to tell him she wants to thank Marshall for the reminder. Things are really weird between them, they aren't going to do it.
Kevin tells Robin that Ted is sly. He thinks that all of this sad, fragile behavior is because he wants to get Robin back. Robin briefly flashes to look like Kevin's mother and he says “mom, right on schedule” and snaps out of it. He's upset, because he's invited her to a “super romantic concert”. Ted tells him it's Weird Al. Kevin thinks that Robin must be the first person he asked and no, she's not the first person he asked. No one else would go with him. Kevin realizes he really is pretty fragile. Ted is whiny and sad, he asks them about how he's supposed to feel. Kevin tells Ted that he's the biggest Weird Al in the whole world and offers to go, because he feels bad. He does a nice thing.
The crew meets up at McClaren's. Ted is still psyched about Weird Al. Barney comes in and tells them that he realized Nora is a lot like his mom, but they still hooked up because he literally turned her around. Marshall asks “so that means it wasn't a deal breaker?' Barney says no, because his mother is the best person he knows. If Nora is the tiniest bit like her, he's a lucky guy. Marshall realizes that he's the real lucky guy, because he married his dad. Lily wants to go “get lucky” and they leave. Ted tells Robin and Kevin to go watch their movie, because he'll be fine alone. When they leave, a woman comes up and says she's a huge Weird Al fan. He gets her a drink.
Back in the 80's, Weird Al is reading fan mail. He reads the ideas and Like a Surgeon works for him.
