How I Met Your Mother

How I Met Your Mother

How I Met Your Mother is a comedy about Ted (Josh Radnor) and how he fell in love. When Ted's best friend, Marshall (Jason Segal, Freaks and Geeks), decides to propose to his long-time girlfriend, Lily (Alyson Hannigan, Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Ted realizes that time may be running out on finding the love of his life. His friend Barney (Neil Patrick Harris, Doogie Howser MD) is the anti-Marshall, a guy who thinks he knows everything about meeting women and isn't afraid to tell you.

Ted first meets Robin (Cobie Smulders, Veritas the Quest), and he believes that she is the woman for him. Soon he realizes that he may not be right after all. Bob Saget (Full House) narrates the story with voiceovers as we follow along flashbacks from the future when he is telling his children the story of how he met their mother.

In a time when there is a massive crop of unwanted, and not funny sitcoms, its refreshing to find How I Met Your Mother. With a unique base premise, but a modern and fun major storyline, this show is really a treat. The writing never seems too overused (even with many suit and legendary jokes in the first season), and never dry. The characters are interesting and very personable, and well acted. Neil Patrick Harris brings to life one of the best sitcom characters in the past decade as Barney, the advice-giving, suited up playboy. Read more

recap: The episode begins and as the gang prepares for Barney and Robin's wedding, they're wrapping up other things. Ted is putting the finishing touches on his house and it's not going well. Barney and Robin are rehearsing for their first dance. Lily and Marshall are packing for their year in Italy. Marshall's mom calls and Lily spills the beans about the move to Rome. Marshall's mom demands that she see Marvin before they leave. Marshall winds up offering to leave Lily in New York for work while he takes Marvin to Minnesota. Lily is outraged that Marshall is taking her infant son away from her for a full week... read more.

8x23: Something Old recap: The episode begins in 1994, when Robin's dad took her to Central Park for the first time. He didn't like New York much, saying it was like Edmonton without all the culture. Robin walked off on her own, dreamed of moving to the big city one day to marry a sophisticated man, and buried a locket in the park that would be her "something old" at the wedding. Back in the present in Central Park, and Robin is telling her father about that moment. He gets a call from Barney, who he is calling to meet for laser tag in 15 minutes. Her dad takes off instead of helping her dig up her "something old" at the park... read more.

8x21: Romeward Bound recap: The episode begins and things are going great for Lily, working with The Captain, and Marshall too is doing well at his law firm, but The Captain throws a wrench into things by asking Lily to move with him to Rome for a year. He realizes this is a big move, so he gives her until the end of day to decide. Ted and Barney are at the bar and Ted sees a girl from his yoga class there. She's wearing a huge coat and Ted remembers she had a great body. Lily gets to the bar and tells them about The Captain's offer, saying she's always wanted to live abroad, but hasn't told Marshall about the offer yet... read more.

8x22: The Bro Mitzvah recap: The episode begins with the story of how Barney's life fell apart, but quickly bounces back to six hours earlier, when he's declaring that his life is perfect and is never going to change. That night, he and Robin will be having dinner with Loretta, Barney's mom. Robin is worried her mom won't deem her worthy. He has to drop off their catering deposit, before meeting his mom. It's $5,000 and a four-block walk on the Upper East Side, but Barney is not worried. As soon as he steps out the door, he's kidnapped for his surprise bachelor party by Ted and Marshall... read more.

8x19: The Fortress recap: The episode begins and Barney and Robin are weeks away from getting married, but still don't agree on some big issues. Robin wants to talk about where they're going to live. She doesn't love some things about his apartment, including the fact that his bed is apparently placed on a train track. He explains the system. It rolls the entire bed into a hole in the wall, after he's done with one of his ladies, and is replaced with an empty bed. Barney tells Robin he'll sell his place, if it'll make her happy, and then ponders where they could find an apartment where he hasn't banged someone... read more.
