On a passenger jet plane, Chance and a flight attendant, Laura, run into the cockpit. Chance warns that the plane is on fire and explains that he's actually with private security, not an insurance salesman. He seats himself in the pilot's chair and prepares to bring the plane down.

Six hours earlier, Winston meets with Phil Tennant, a computer company CEO, who explains that he hired a cyberhacker named Casper to test his firewall. However, Casper managed to discover a security flaw: a cyber skeleton key capable of breaking through any security encryption. Casper is meeting with Tennant in Seattle, but is overdue. Someone broke into Tennant's office and killed a guard to gain access to Tennant's correspondence with Casper. Casper is taking a flight to meet Tennant, but Tennant has no way to contact the secretive hacker. They need to hire Chance.
Winston meets with Guerrero and Chance and explains the situation. He figures whoever stole the correspondence will attempt to find Casper and get the cyberkey. Winston sets up Chance as an insurance salesman, Martin Gill, and Chance asks Guerrero for a hypodermic disguised as a pen. As they start to leave, Chance says that he'll need Winston onboard with him. However, they have a different cover for Winston. Guerrero can't help smirking.
On board the plane, Chance calls for the flight attendant: Winston.

As the plane goes down, Winston wrestles with an armed man. Laura tries to raise flight control, but Chance warns that the fire destroyed the radio antenna. He increases speed and opens the landing wheel doors in an attempt to put out the fire. It doesn't work and Chance goes through the manual to find the conduit controls. He warns that if they don't get the fire out in time, they'll crash. He opens the vents to try and put out the fire, but Laura warns that the temperature is still going up.
In the passenger cabin, Winston struggles with the man. The gun goes off and strikes a passenger, and Winston knocks the abductor out. He then tends to the passenger's wound.
In the cockpit, Chance wonders why Laura is taking things so calmly. She says she was trained to handle emergencies, but admits she was considering a career move. She wonders why Chance got into the bodyguard business.

Winston and Chance compare notes on possible suspects and realize that they won't learn anything from the list. Chance suggests they pull a Crazy Eddie: make a passenger angry and see who reacts. He wonders which of them can take one for the team. Winston approaches an obnoxious passenger, Larry, shakes his can of pop, and gives it to him. It sprays on him and the air marshal approaches them. Chance notices that one man doesn't react and takes out the pen.
In San Francisco, Guerrero brings in Sergei. He figures that one of the other hackers Tennant employs is after Casper and wants Sergei to figure out which one. Sergei wonders why he should help Guerrero. Guerrero just stares at him and Sergei agrees to do it. The phone rings and Guerrero answers. Winston has narrowed the suspects down to five passengers and wants Guerrero to run the names.
Chance approaches the man who didn't react and asks if he can sit next to him. He introduces himself to the man, Vincent, and starts talking about killers like heart disease as part of a sales pitch. When Chance asks why he's really on the plane, Vincent admits that he took a couple of sedatives, and Chance realizes that he took more than a couple. Winston calls to tell Chance that they're changing course: there's an electrical malfunction tripping the fire circuits, and the pilots are diverting to Portland. They figure that once the plane is forced down in Portland, the thief and his people will make their move on Caspar.
Chance goes to the back and checks the circuits. He notices that they've been tampered with. The abductor spots Chance and tries to kill him. His gun goes off, ripping open an electrical line. Chance finally subdues the man and checks his cell phone's call log.

The cabin pressure redlines and Chance warns that they can't let in any more air. Since the fire is in the plane's underbelly, he only has one chance: flip the plane to expose the fire to the increased wind flow. Laura notes that putting out the fire won't do any good if they die, but Chance insists he's done it before... on a simulator. Chance calls Winston to warn him and have everyone seated on the left side of the cabin, including Casper.

Guerrero calls Winston and tells him that everyone checked out. He suggests that Winston might not have an accurate profile and Casper didn't come from San Francisco as they believe. Winston realizes that Casper forged a boarding pass. Meanwhile, Chance checks the abductor's cell phone call log. The air marshal comes up behind him and demands answers. Chance claims that he's an innocent bystander who stumbled across the abductor. He hands over his fake ID and the air marshal insists on handcuffing him to be on the safe side.
Winston walks through the cabin and sits down next to a blonde woman. He asks her how her trip is going and then mentions that according to her boarding pass, she boarded on London. However, Winston notes that she could have forged a pass to make it appear she came from London, and observes that she doesn't have any luggage tags. He explains that Tennant hired him to protect her, and warns that there are people after her for the skeleton key. Winston insists that the situation is under control... as the air marshal takes the handcuffed Chance down the aisle.
Winston goes up front as the air marshal explains what happened to Laura. The air marshal restrains both of them and has Laura contact the pilot to call for police assistance. Winston keeps an eye on Chance, slips him a paperclip to pick the lock, and explains that he found Casper. He also tells Winston that according to the abductor's cell phone, he has an accomplice on board. As Winston goes to look for him, Chance smells smoke.
The oxygen masks drop as the air marshal discovers that the pilot and co-pilot were knocked out by smoke in the cabin. The air marshal doesn't trust Chance when he frees himself and offers to help, and believes that air control can give him the instructions to land. Chance warns that it will take too long to master the controls. When the lights flicker, Chance struggles with the air marshal. Laura grabs the gun and forces the air marshal to surrender. When he goes for a second gun, Winston grabs him and Laura exchanges glances with the first abductor. She then goes into the cockpit with Chance and insists she have the chance to help. As she removes her jacket, Chance is unaware that she has a gun concealed underneath her vest.
The fire continues to burn as Winston warns the passengers to roll with the cabin. He assures Casper that everything will be fine. In the cockpit, Chance prepares to do the roll and Laura wonders why she isn’t more afraid. He begins the roll and the plane flips over. Chance maintains position as the fire goes out and Laura confirms that the temperature has dropped. Now he tries to flip it back, but realizes that the controls aren't responding. He runs a diagnostic and confirms that the autopilot has locked them out. He unbelts himself while explaining that they only have ten minutes until they hit a storm that will rip the plane apart.
Chance and Laura go back and tells everyone that the fire is out. He talks to the pilot, who explains that the maneuver crashed the autopilot. However, the pilot warns that even if they shut off the autopilot, they won't be able to flip the plane back. When Winston wonders if they can just reboot the computer, Casper suggests that she download the software to her laptop and use that to flip the plane back over.
Casper uses the skeleton key to hack into the manufacturer's software and download it via wireless. However, it will take five minutes and they'll be cutting it close. They have to patch it in manually and try to find a panel to get to the avionics computer in one of the wheel wells. Laura finds a vent and claims that she dated a flight tech who showed it to her. Winston warns that it'll be freezing but Chance is willing to take the risk. As Chance prepares to climb up, Winston apologizes to the air marshal for having to knock him out. The air marshal points out that there's no reason for the second abductor to wait in the confusion.
As Chance and Laura bundle up, Laura wonders who he really is and he says he's Christopher Chance. As Casper finishes downloading the software, Laura slips a paper clip to the first man so he can escape. She and Chance then climb up into the floor.
In San Francisco, Sergei tells Guerrero that he hasn't had any luck finding the kidnappers. He apologizes for failing and starts to go. Guerrero asks him if the existence of a cyberkey might be tempting, and wonders if someone would take it. Sergei says he wouldn't take it and Guerrero notes that anyone who had it would become an instant target. He suggests that if Sergei by chance might make a deal with the hacker who stole it, they'd have a problem. Sergei considers and then goes to his computer and finds the man they're looking for.
Winston tells the passengers to prepare for the plane to roll back, and then straps himself in next to Casper. Up above, Chance and Laura get into the hold and enter into the wheel well where the computer connection exists. Winston warns Chance that he has to be back in the plane before it rolls back.
Chance hooks up the computer and the pilot disengages the computer. Meanwhile, the first abductor frees himself and closes in on Winston. He starts to grab his gun... and the air marshal knocks him out.
Laura goes for her gun, only to discover that Chance took it from her. She realizes that he knew all along, and refuses to go to prison. Chance suggests that she might consider a career change, but she notes that she killed a woman to get on the plane and she couldn't change any more than he could. Chance notes that he used to hate his job, too. As the plane flips back, Laura attacks Chance. He grabs onto the wheel as the plane returns to true. Laura tries to kick him loose but he jabs the hypodermic pen into her leg. She passes out and he switches place. As she dangles thousands of feet above the ground, Chance tries to hold onto her. As he loses his grip, she asks him to tell her his name. Before he can respond, she slips free and plummets toward the ground.
Hacker Nick Chepekian is getting into his car when a man holds him at gunpoint. Guerrero calls Nick and asks him the same question he asked Sergei earlier. Nick thinks seriously about his answer.
The plane lands at the Portland airfield and Winston and Chance worry that Laura may have passed on their description to the abduction team on the ground. A security guard comes on board but informs them that Guerrero sent him and his team, and that they've taken care of the abductors on the ground.
Later, Winston introduces Casper, Brooke Hammell, to Tennant. Chance is waiting outside as Winston gets into the car and prepares to leave on the flight that Tennant has booked for them. Winston suggests that they should take the train instead and Chance asks if he remembers what he said when they first started their business. Winston remembers that he told Chance he wasn't as stuck as he thought, and that there was another way. When Chance wonders how he knew Chance would choose the other way, Winston admits that he didn't know. As they go, Winston warns that he won't be going out in the field with Chance again.
