Imbroglio - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Ilsa waits in an alleyway and remembers how Hector Lonzo attacked her in her own apartment, and she was forced to kill him with his own gun before Chance could arrive. Finally her guest arrives: Connie Pucci, her sister-in-law. She notes that Ilsa hasn't contacted her in a year and then hugs her. They go inside to the agency, and Ilsa explains that they met in the alleyway for security reasons. Connie is the Chairman of the Board of the Pucci Foundation and there to check out her team. Connie figures that Ilsa has been hiding the team, but Ilsa insists that they’re professionals... until they discover Guerrero shooting at Chance to test his new body armor. As Ilsa protests, Winston comes in and Ilsa introduces Connie. She explains that Connie is treating her to the opera. Guerrero is impressed, and Ilsa quickly takes Connie to her office. As she goes, Winston asks if she'll need a security escort, and Ilsa explains that she thought someone was following her. She tells Winston that she was imagining things, and assures him that Patrick, Connie's bodyguard, can protect them.

As they share drinks, Ilsa worries that the board doesn't approve of the agency's activities, and figures that Ilsa is out of her depths. Connie is more concerned that she hasn't seen Ilsa's seen Marshall's funeral, and says she's there to make sure her sister-in-law is okay. Ilsa insists that she's fine and claims that she's in good hands.

Chance talks to Patrick, who admits that someone hacked the opera house firewall for ten seconds. They don't consider it a threat, but the board isn't taking any chances. Chance is interested in the fact that it was only ten seconds, and then tells Guerrero to start shooting.

At the opera house, Ilsa and Connie arrive and check out the theater. The board has donated Marshall's chandelier from his collection for the production of La Traviata. Ilsa is taken aback, and Connie asks if everything is all right. Her sister-in-law says that she's just overworked. As they go back to the lobby, Connie comments that Chance must clean up well... and then points out Chance in a suit. Chance and Guerrero are there and come over, and claim they're just there to catch the show. While Guerrero suggests to Connie that they go to the opera in Venice, Ilsa talks privately to Chance and realizes that Winston is outside in the surveillance truck. He tells her that he has a bad feeling because of the ten-second breach in the firewall. However, if an expert had 15 seconds, he could copy the entire mainframe, hijack the security systems, and take control of the entire place.

Terrorists in opera robes and masks come in through the loading dock door, bypassing the security systems.

Ilsa says that she appreciates Chance's security, but tells him that with the board watching her, it's not time for idle speculation. The terrorists burst in and order everyone to the ground, and then seal the doors with plastic explosives. Connie tells Patrick to do something, and he attacks a terrorist against Chance's advice. The terrorist quickly subdues him, and their leader, Eli Rosko, informs the theatergoers that there's been a change in the proceedings. He plans to hold them all hostage, and orders his man to shoot Patrick. The gun is on safety, but Eli warns that the next time it will be for real. He then has his men separate the hostages into two groups and orders a team to the basement.

As Chance is escorted away with the others, he figures that someone smart enough to hack the mainframe could simply have stolen the opera house's account, so Eli must want something else. Chance's squad is locked into the theater, and Chance vomits on command so one of the terrorists will take him to the restroom. Once he's alone, Chance takes his opponent out, steals his robe and mask, and goes back in. He takes out the other guard, but tells Connie that everyone will have to stay put since the doors are still wired and the other group is at risk. The terrorists were discussing an operation in the basement, and Chance has Winston readjust the mikes. They pick up the sounds of drilling and figure that the terrorists are drilling into another building. There are no obvious targets nearby, so Chance figures he needs to go to the basement. As he goes, someone pounds on the door of Winston's truck. It's the FBI, who orders him to come out. They realize that Connie called 911, and she insists they had to call in the police. Ilsa offers to go with Chance, but he refuses, saying she's not up to it given recent events.

FBI agent Vance and his lead agent demand to know why Winston is there. He talks to Chance over the radio, and asks for the name of the Department of Homeland Security they know, so he can use his fake ID and bluff Vance. Chance eventually gives it to him and Vance agrees to let Winston work with him. Once Winston is back on line, Chance tells him that the terrorists have drilled their way into the sewers and then goes after them.

In the theater, Connie and Ilsa argue over whether Chance is a professional. Guerrero is unaware that one of the terrorists is slowly tearing through his duct tape bindings. Meanwhile, Connie asks what recent events Chance was talking about. Ilsa starts to tell her and Guerrero lies, saying it was a minor break-in. Connie admits that the board thinks that Ilsa has lost sight of Marshall's mission, and they're going to vote to remove her as head of the foundation. Guerrero gives them a moment alone, and Connie points out that Ilsa doesn't keep any trace of Marshall in her office. She says that she defended Ilsa, but things are worse than she thought and Ilsa has to sever all ties with the team or lose her position.

Chance finds Eli and his men drilling up to the surface, and Winston tries to access the files. They're secured by the government, but one of Vance's men, Sanford, says he can hack the files. Vance hesitates, saying they're breaking the rules, and Winston tells him that sometimes you have to do the right thing to save lives. The FBI agent gives Sanford the go-ahead and they confirm that the building is a CIA safe house. Winston convinces Vance to call, but it's too late: Eli and his men have taken out the CIA security and rescued their prisoner: Victor Rosko, Eli's brother. They go back down into the sewers and Chance heads back to the opera house. Meanwhile Sanford confirms that the Roskos are weapons dealers who sell suitcase nukes, and Eli escaped. Vance's lieutenant calls Vance aside and tells him that she's learned that Winston's cover identity is a fake.

A terrorist spots Chance and opens fire, and he flees into the sewer. In the theater, Guerrero and the others hear the gunshots, and the captive terrorists free themselves and attack him before he can go to help his friend. Chance tells Winston that he's cornered, and then one of the terrorists shoots him in the chest. His body armor protects him, but the impact knocks him into a lower level pipe. Eli closes the gate and locks it, and then opens the valve releasing water into the sublevel. Chance calls for Winston and Guerrero, but they both have their own problems.

When he realizes he's going to be defeated, Guerrero slips his earbud to Ilsa, and she realizes that Chance is in trouble. She goes to rescue him, ignoring his objections when he learns what she's doing. Ilsa finds him but admits she has no experience with picking locks.

Vance tells the captive Winston that they've forced Eli back into the opera house. However, Winston warns him that Eli is playing him. Eli calls and demands a helicopter delivered to the roof of the opera house in return for the hostages. Vance agrees, and then has Eli's cell phone traced. Winston warns that it's a trick, but Vance ignores him.

In the opera house, one of Eli's men screams when Guerrero bits his nose. When Eli's men realize they're dealing with Guerrero, they hesitate, Unimpressed, Eli says that Guerrero will be the star of his new production and puts his cell phone in Guerrero's pocket.

Ilsa is unable to get the lock open. A terrorist approaches and Ilsa ask Chance what he would do. He tells her to jump the guy and club him unconscious from surprise. She hesitantly does it while Chance ducks underwater. When the terrorist walks by, Ilsa tries to hit him with an overhead swing but hits the ceiling instead. Before the man can shoot her, Chance jumps up, grabs his leg through the gate, pulls him down, and slams his head into a valve. Ilsa then uses the gun to shoot out the lock, freeing Chance. He insists that he's supposed to save her life and stalks off to rescue the hostages.

Eli's men remove their jumpsuits, revealing tuxedos underneath. They then mingle with the other guests. Chance and Ilsa arrive and has another bad feeling. He calls Winston to tell him the terrorists are blending in. The FBI trace Eli's phone and place it on the top floor. Winston sees the supposed terrorists there, and Chance realizes that the "terrorists" are Guerrero and seven of the hostages, taped up, and wearing the masks and robes. Vance prepares to follow proper FBI protocol, ordering his snipers to take them out. Winston and Chance realize that the terrorists will take advantage of the shooting to leave with the hostages. Ilsa finds Connie while Chance fires into the ceiling and forces everyone back. Eli signals his men to attack Chance so they can get out, and he takes them down.

On the top floor, Guerrero manages to trigger the laser sight on the empty gun taped to his hands. As Vance prepares to tell his men to shoot, Winston sees the flashing light and they realize that it's Morse Code. When he refers to "double-wide," Winston realizes that it's Guerrero.

Victor and Eli take Ilsa and Connie prisoner and retreat into the theater. Chance follows them and then apologizes to Ilsa for what he's done to Marshall's memory. He glances up at the chandelier, and she yanks Connie away. Chance shoots the chandelier support and grabs a rope, and is lifted up as the chandelier goes down. He takes out Eli and Victor, and the chandelier stops inches from the ground. Connie realizes it's over, until Chance asks them to help get him down.

Vance releases Winston and thanks him for his help, admitting that sometime you have to toss out the rulebook.

Back at the office, Connie says that she has to tell the board her decision, and tells Ilsa that Marshall said his wife was the toughest person he knew. She says that Ilsa and her team saved Connie and the hostages, and she'll stand by him because Ilsa is family. As she goes, she leaves an envelope from Marshall behind. Ilsa reads it and breaks into tears.

As Connie goes, she runs into Guerrero coming out of the elevator. She thanks him for his help and he reminds her about their opera date in Venice. She's not sure if he's joking.

As Ilsa goes, she sees Chance dressing for a jog. She tells him what route she's taking home, knowing that he was the one who was following her earlier, and figures he feels responsible for the attack on her. Ilsa tells him that she's fine, and he admits that she's strong. However, Chance says that she can't just ignore taking another person's life, and he knows what she's going through. He assures her that she won't have to face it alone, and she thanks him.
