Episode Notes

This episode was the first aired on television, but was actually the second produced. The first episode to be produced was Lucy Thinks Ricky Is Trying to Murder Her, but it had to be withheld due to technical errors.

During most of the first season, Lucy and Ricky are shown sleeping in a double bed together (actually two twin beds pushed together), despite then-era television censors prohibiting this. Most likely they were allowed because they were a real-life married couple. However, after Lucy became pregnant CBS decided to push the beds apart to minimize implication of their sexual history.

In this episode, Fred and Ethel celebrate their 18th wedding anniversary. The number of years the couple were married would vary throughout the show inconsistently.

Vivian Vance and William Frawley's portrayal as the ever bickering Mertzes would be ironic, as the two, in real life, despised each other.

Due to filming costs back in the day, I Love Lucy rarely had retakes, often leaving in minor line flubs or screen errors.

The Mertzes were originally supposed to be the nosy landlords who drop in for a minute or two each episode to antagonize the Ricardos. However, the writers decided to add them in as more prominent characters.

The original I Love Lucy theme song featured an animated Lucy and Desi walking around on the screen, advertising their sponsor Philip Morris. Reruns show the ever familar "heart" theme song.
